World of Warcraft Movie

Yes there is a WoW movie:) in production for you WoW lovers (I've never really played it much except at a friend's house). On IMDB they named it "Warcraft" so you can find info about it there. I'm sure you might see some trailiers at the movies in the next 6 months for Warcraft. It's scheduled for release in 2009. I'm definitely seeing this but only time will tell if it rocks the box office.... or will it go the way of other movie based games? Should it be Live-Action, CGI, or a little bit of both?

Re: World of Warcraft Movie

Still no word on a director. I doubt they will get a worthwhile director for a project like this, and, because this will be such a niche film, I have a feeling it will tank pretty badly. Alas, if previous titles based on video games are any indication, I don't hold out much hope for this film...

Yeah... thinking back a bit.... Doom, Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil, BloodRayne, Wing Commander, Mortal Kombat, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill, Alien vs. Predator (Yes, it was a game way back in 1994 on the Jaguar system. I rented the system for a weekend, rented that game, and slammed a bottle of Absolut while I stayed up for 36 hours trying to beat it. Either I got too ****-faced to finish, or the game was too big to beat in the weekend. Fun stuff, tho...I think!)

Anyway, not a great track record for games. The only half-decent film i can remember that came from a game is Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within, and that had issues, as well...

Re: World of Warcraft Movie

One of the main questions would be if the storyline is from one of the games or a new one just for the movie. According to IMDB they say that it's a spin off of the 3rd WoW game.

I wouldn't say Spirits Within was based on a game....it simply borrowed the title. Like most of the FF games, this was a whole different story.

Mortal Kombat is awesome. I saw it when I was 12. I remember my friend and I would yell, whenever we got pumped up about something, "MORTAL KOMBAT!" Sometimes we would even try to sing the beat, but that was usually too difficult. My point is, is that Mortal Kombat was awesome and is awesome.

The Jaguar system.... Holy crap. I haven't thought about that thing in a long time. I used to play the Alien VS. Predator game too. That was very hard. I usually got lost in the levels. There were some scary parts too.

I liked the movie Alien VS. Predator. Maybe I was in the mood for some cheese ball crap, but regardless, I walked away entertained. I'm looking forward to this new one coming out.

Super Mario Bros was an interesting movie. I don't even remember what I remember about it.... but I remember it was weird.

They don't make em' like this anymore.

I don't remember John Leguizamo begin in it, but he is, and that's kind of cool. Dennis Hopper too. Geez'. Makes me want to watch it again.

Dennis Hopper has been is some weird crap. I like it. Anyone who can play a freak in Blue Velvet and then King Koopa in Super Mario Brothers can be a friend of mine.

I don't get why anyone would vote "No." Who cares. Make the effin' movie. I wish more movies were made. Good ones and sh_tty ones. If I don't like it, I wont watch it. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be made though. Someone else might like it. UNF' UNF'! I'm glad someone made The Strange Case of Senior Computer. I'm sure if the writer would have asked some people, "Should I write this." There might have been some a-holes that said, "No." They only movies that shouldn't be made have to do with Michael Bay. Rules are rules.

A bad movie could damage the game's image. Warner Bros.and Legendary Pictures have the film rights but still nothing on a director

The game has an image that needs to be protected? If the movie sucks, are people going to stop playing the game? The movie is a movie and the game is a game. Your not playing a movie. This is so simple and clear to me I find it hard to explain.

The game, just like books, shouldn't suffer because of a bad movie, or vice versa. They should be enjoyed or hated for what they are.

No! No more video game movies EVER! Please, for the love of Benji, stop with the video game movies! I'd rather play the games than watch half arsed film versions...

Unless they made a second "Super Mario Brothers," cause that movie is hilariously weird. Mario could fight Donkey Kong in it!

So many video game movies have been annoucned - about 10 percent of them get made : and none of them are actually ever good games - or games with stories

Only if its about people actually competing in a "guitar hero" competition, cause that would be so geeky as to be absolutely hilarious. :rotfl:

I'd like to see Dance Dance Revolution: The Movie, in that case.

DDR vs Guitar Hero, what an excellent crossover that would be. Rock Band is still too new so too bad.

I guess you do have a point. Unfortunately I had already voted "no" by the time I read your post. I guess I assumed the issue to be whether or or not people felt that a WoW movie would be any good, in which case my answer would be..."no".

Technicalities aside, I was an avid player for way too long and I STILL rolled my bloodshot peepers at the mention of the word "lore". Yes, it is a great game, and as far as great games go there has for me been no other experience quite like it. But when I want a great story I either read a book or watch a film. When I want to go kill stuff, I play WoW.

I would love to see a movie about DDR though. Them kids got moves.

Who do you think should be the director of the WoW movie? Who would you want the cast be? With a good cast and a good director the movie still has a chance.

I voted YES to a WoW movie although as much as a gamer I consider myself I've never played it.

The only MMORPG (Masively Multi-player Online Roll-Playing Game to you non-gamers) that's ever hooked me in completely is City of Heroes...

With the huge fan-base WoW has I'm sure any movie would be an instant hit. Hopefully we'll see this movie get made soon enough (they'd be stupid not to make one). I'm also waiting on the much-rumored City of Heroes movie to get started but I won't hold my breath for that one.

Thank you Sci-Fi Guy, that was a very positive response. WoW does have a huge fan base so you know some of the demographic of the movie would be for WoW fans where currently there are over 10 million subscribers to the game (talk about a huge fan base). But they are still missing a director and until that happens we don't see where the movie is going. It's also still too early to make assumptions based on this movie in development that some already think it's no good just because of a record that some movie based games have of being considered horrible and unpolished.

It's basically The Silmarillion times a hundred.

If they do make a WoW movie I would hope it's not 100% CG like Beowulf.

Sci-Fi Guy what's your CoX handle? I consider myself an avid player myself but I always end up more focused on my Character's bio and costume and "kickass factor" than levelling constantly.

But I don't see a reason NOT to make a WoW movie and there's always a chance that it'll be a Ringsbeater (but I doubt it)

I say Yae!

I have 3 mixed accounts all with CoH and CoV combined and go by the globals:
@UltraStar, @LordAnarch, and @Hyperstar.
I have toons on almost all the servers but I mostly play on Infinity and now Freedom.

My mains on Infinity are UltraStar (below) and both Amber De'Ville & Sexy SuperSquid (also below).

World of Warcraft is generally known as W.o.W. just as City of Heroes and City of Villains are called CoH, CoV or CoX combined.

Ahhh....
I'm not sure the European and North American servers can intermix, can they? Isn't there a Japanese one too?
I know in North America we have 11 servers to play with. Not sure about everywhere else.
Gratz to your bro for dinging 50 btw...
My 50s are all on Infinity but I have a lvl 39 emp/energy def (Ultima-)on Freedom who should be my first 50 on Freedom soon enough.

Am I right in saying there are no pre-established characters in WoW? I slightly recall some Prince or knight that turned into an undead king or summat.

Servers can't mix but I think there might be a transfer coming up soon.

They already began the server transfer capabilities in CoH, at least in North America (I believe it was with the issue-10 or 11 expansion) for a small fee ($10 bucks I think). I might move a couple to Freedom, not sure yet.

As for main established characters in WoW, I'm not sure myself but I would imagine they probably do just as CoH/V have Statesman and his group of heroes and Lord recluse and his gang.
I just noticed a WoW comic book in my local comic shop last night.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3...micfulloa2.jpg

I just glanced at it but they would have to have some main characters in it unless they held contests for fan entries or something which the CoH comic had done before ("win an appearance in the comic book for your own hero").

If Uwe Boll directed it would be guarenteed to be failure. His adaptation of Alone in the Dark was one of the worst I have ever seen, and while Bloodrayne wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, it definitely is a very very poor film.

as far as a movie would go, was there any real plot to that game overall? what specifically would this be about? either way it's gonna be hard to have this 100% live action, there'd have to be CGI

Re: World of Warcraft Movie

Well about the story for the movie. WoW games are MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) and don't really have much of a storyline. I'm questioning whether or not "Warcraft" will have a story to be based off one of the games or not because if it does they might not have a very good one. Not all gameplay elements can be translated into Movies. So, a movie company has Film Rights to something like an MMORPG game which may not have a solid storyline and make a movie from it. Well there are plenty of other games that can and will be translated into Films in the future. Here's one:The Legend of Zelda Series and it would make a great movie and not just a great movie-based game but a great movie period(look up Legend of Zelda movie under Upcoming Movies and Sequels and post your thoughts and ideas about a Zelda movie there)with a great director in charge. I'm not going againist the WoW movie i'm just concerned about the story.I'm gonna see the movie and I may even see "Warcraft" on opening day.

Are you talking about Tales of The Past 3? I saw this fan-made WoW movie(The best fan-made WoW movie I have ever seen) on Youtube at a friend's house and it was very awesome. The movie is about 90 min long so you may want to let it buffer for a few min before watching. Oh I also tryed downloading it to my SD card and the movie takes up about 2.4 GB so it wouldn't fit on my 2GB SD Card.
