World of Warcraft Movie
Yes there is a WoW movie:) in production for you WoW lovers (I've never really played it much except at a friend's house). On IMDB they named it "Warcraft" so you can find info about it there. I'm sure you might see some trailiers at the movies in the next 6 months for Warcraft. It's scheduled for release in 2009. I'm definitely seeing this but only time will tell if it rocks the box office.... or will it go the way of other movie based games? Should it be Live-Action, CGI, or a little bit of both?

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Still no word on a director. I doubt they will get a worthwhile director for a project like this, and, because this will be such a niche film, I have a feeling it will tank pretty badly. Alas, if previous titles based on video games are any indication, I don't hold out much hope for this film...
Yeah... thinking back a bit.... Doom, Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil, BloodRayne, Wing Commander, Mortal Kombat, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill, Alien vs. Predator (Yes, it was a game way back in 1994 on the Jaguar system. I rented the system for a weekend, rented that game, and slammed a bottle of Absolut while I stayed up for 36 hours trying to beat it. Either I got too ****-faced to finish, or the game was too big to beat in the weekend. Fun stuff, tho...I think!) Anyway, not a great track record for games. The only half-decent film i can remember that came from a game is Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within, and that had issues, as well... |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
One of the main questions would be if the storyline is from one of the games or a new one just for the movie. According to IMDB they say that it's a spin off of the 3rd WoW game.

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I wouldn't say Spirits Within was based on a game....it simply borrowed the title. Like most of the FF games, this was a whole different story.

I haven't thought about that thing in a long time. I used to play the Alien VS. Predator game too. That was very hard. I usually got lost in the levels. There were some scary parts too. I liked the movie Alien VS. Predator. Maybe I was in the mood for some cheese ball crap, but regardless, I walked away entertained. I'm looking forward to this new one coming out. Super Mario Bros was an interesting movie. I don't even remember what I remember about it.... but I remember it was weird. They don't make em' like this anymore. http://www.wherehouse.com/amgcover/d...30949ht9pi.jpg http://www.gamesetwatch.com/mariomovie9.jpg I don't remember John Leguizamo begin in it, but he is, and that's kind of cool. Dennis Hopper too. Geez'. Makes me want to watch it again. Dennis Hopper has been is some weird crap. I like it. Anyone who can play a freak in Blue Velvet and then King Koopa in Super Mario Brothers can be a friend of mine. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I gave my only copy of Mario Bros away for free....it was on VHS.

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I don't get why anyone would vote "No." Who cares. Make the effin' movie. I wish more movies were made. Good ones and sh_tty ones. If I don't like it, I wont watch it. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be made though. Someone else might like it. UNF' UNF'! I'm glad someone made The Strange Case of Senior Computer. I'm sure if the writer would have asked some people, "Should I write this." There might have been some a-holes that said, "No." They only movies that shouldn't be made have to do with Michael Bay. Rules are rules.

The game, just like books, shouldn't suffer because of a bad movie, or vice versa. They should be enjoyed or hated for what they are. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
No! No more video game movies EVER! Please, for the love of Benji, stop with the video game movies! I'd rather play the games than watch half arsed film versions...
Unless they made a second "Super Mario Brothers," cause that movie is hilariously weird. Mario could fight Donkey Kong in it! |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
So many video game movies have been annoucned - about 10 percent of them get made : and none of them are actually ever good games - or games with stories

I am waiting for Guitar Hero, it will be great.

I'd like to see Dance Dance Revolution: The Movie, in that case. |

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
DDR vs Guitar Hero, what an excellent crossover that would be. Rock Band is still too new so too bad.
"Hey man, I bet I can play guitar Hero whilst playing DDR and get perfect on both yeah man yeah!!!" |

Technicalities aside, I was an avid player for way too long and I STILL rolled my bloodshot peepers at the mention of the word "lore". Yes, it is a great game, and as far as great games go there has for me been no other experience quite like it. But when I want a great story I either read a book or watch a film. When I want to go kill stuff, I play WoW. I would love to see a movie about DDR though. Them kids got moves. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Who do you think should be the director of the WoW movie? Who would you want the cast be? With a good cast and a good director the movie still has a chance.

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I voted YES to a WoW movie although as much as a gamer I consider myself I've never played it.
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/6...agon800rr3.jpg The only MMORPG (Masively Multi-player Online Roll-Playing Game to you non-gamers) that's ever hooked me in completely is City of Heroes... http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/6751/coh3ly0.jpg ...but I've tried out Star Wars Galaxies and Guild Wars as well. http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9...4daaae7od2.jpg http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5...sposterzc7.jpg With the huge fan-base WoW has I'm sure any movie would be an instant hit. Hopefully we'll see this movie get made soon enough (they'd be stupid not to make one). I'm also waiting on the much-rumored City of Heroes movie to get started but I won't hold my breath for that one. |

WoW does have a huge fan base so you know some of the demographic of the movie would be for WoW fans where currently there are over 10 million subscribers to the game (talk about a huge fan base). But they are still missing a director and until that happens we don't see where the movie is going. It's also still too early to make assumptions based on this movie in development that some already think it's no good just because of a record that some movie based games have of being considered horrible and unpolished. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
It's basically The Silmarillion times a hundred.
If they do make a WoW movie I would hope it's not 100% CG like Beowulf. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Sci-Fi Guy what's your CoX handle? I consider myself an avid player myself but I always end up more focused on my Character's bio and costume and "kickass factor" than levelling constantly.
But I don't see a reason NOT to make a WoW movie and there's always a chance that it'll be a Ringsbeater (but I doubt it) I say Yae! |

He has a tendacy to completely ruin video game movies.

@UltraStar, @LordAnarch, and @Hyperstar. I have toons on almost all the servers but I mostly play on Infinity and now Freedom. My mains on Infinity are UltraStar (below) and both Amber De'Ville & Sexy SuperSquid (also below). http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2...2309280oz6.jpghttp://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3...0100055or6.jpg What's your global and main server on there? |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
lol why do guys keep calling it the WoW movie ?
That'd be original - but if they did : i'm sure it would most likely be a movie about the Warcraft universe. |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I'm actually on Defiant and Union cause I'm Irish! My main's "Circadian", ampersand my global handle is @biographyman or @circadian. My bro's on Freedom (and the European servers too) with Circuleon, who just dinged 50!
Now a CoX movie would rocks. It'd rocks our CoX off. |

Now a CoX movie would rocks. It'd rocks our CoX off. I'm not sure the European and North American servers can intermix, can they? Isn't there a Japanese one too? I know in North America we have 11 servers to play with. Not sure about everywhere else. Gratz to your bro for dinging 50 btw... My 50s are all on Infinity but I have a lvl 39 emp/energy def (Ultima-)on Freedom who should be my first 50 on Freedom soon enough. http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/2...2222180wv1.jpg |

Sure why not.
I play WoW. I doubt I'd go watch a movie based on it though. |

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Am I right in saying there are no pre-established characters in WoW? I slightly recall some Prince or knight that turned into an undead king or summat.
Servers can't mix but I think there might be a transfer coming up soon. |

As for main established characters in WoW, I'm not sure myself but I would imagine they probably do just as CoH/V have Statesman and his group of heroes and Lord recluse and his gang. I just noticed a WoW comic book in my local comic shop last night. http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3...micfulloa2.jpg I just glanced at it but they would have to have some main characters in it unless they held contests for fan entries or something which the CoH comic had done before ("win an appearance in the comic book for your own hero"). |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Are there any good directors out there for Warcraft? Would Peter Jackson or Michael Bay mind directing it?
|
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Not enough cars for Bay to blow up but I think Jackson could definately make a movie like WoW epic.
|
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Jackson is making the Lovely Bones and then The Hobbit
|
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
At least there's Peter Jackson so now we have someone good for directing. I keep hearing about Uwe Boll and what movies has he directed like movies based off of games that were crappy?
|

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
How I wish it will be a good movie... Because I was disappointed at Final Fantasy the movie when it was released I'm hoping that it will be a good movie but it's not that good... I just hope it will be better than that...Follow the real stories....

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
I'm a fan of World of Warcraft!!!.... I'll vote to make a movie for it but if it didn't turns out good this might ruin the game....anyway it's just me!!! :D :) :D

Re: World of Warcraft Movie
gotta say, i've never been a big wow fan. it's too expensive, if i want to be fat, pimply, and have no real goals in life, i'll go back to second life.
as far as a movie would go, was there any real plot to that game overall? what specifically would this be about? either way it's gonna be hard to have this 100% live action, there'd have to be CGI |
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Blizzard (the World of Warcraft people) hoping for this movie..i'm addicted with this...
|
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
yeah I think so, it has a great story, and the different characters are interesting with different clans.
|
Re: World of Warcraft Movie
Well about the story for the movie. WoW games are MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) and don't really have much of a storyline. I'm questioning whether or not "Warcraft" will have a story to be based off one of the games or not because if it does they might not have a very good one. Not all gameplay elements can be translated into Movies. So, a movie company has Film Rights to something like an MMORPG game which may not have a solid storyline and make a movie from it. Well there are plenty of other games that can and will be translated into Films in the future. Here's one:The Legend of Zelda Series and it would make a great movie and not just a great movie-based game but a great movie period(look up Legend of Zelda movie under Upcoming Movies and Sequels and post your thoughts and ideas about a Zelda movie there)with a great director in charge. I'm not going againist the WoW movie i'm just concerned about the story.I'm gonna see the movie and I may even see "Warcraft" on opening day.

WOW Movie would be great in films but what about the story??Do you think it will went well??
