The Best Cartoon Ever
I had never even heard of this cartoon before, when I found an article about it on Tim Burton's web site. I've found it and seen it, and I think it's one of the best cartoons ever. It's Tim Burton's short stop-motion film, Vincent, shot in 1982 in black white. Funny and poignant by turns and beautifully scored, it's actually better than most Burton movies, and I highly recommend it.

Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
Vincent is really good isn't it? Vincent and Frankenweenie are extras on The Nightmare Before Christmas dvd if you were interested in having it.

Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
I wouldn't say better than most of his movies but it is a wonderful short movie, it's very similar to his Melancholy death of oyster boy book in the fairy tale rhyming sense.

Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
I've pretty much stopped watching cartoons except for The Simpsons and South Park (that's if you are not including Japanese Anime).
Anime falls under a class of its own in my opinion. |
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
I like South Park a lot and I actually enjoyed Shrek (the first one) when I saw it.

Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
Sorry, nothing beats the Looney Tunes from back in the '40s and '50s, especially the classic send-ups of opera: What's Opera, Doc? and The Rabbit of Seville.

Batman: The Animated Series
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/protectedi...manseries1.jpg With such creepy characters such as the best looking Joker to date with that sinister laugh http://www.patfullerton.com/batman/p...ker1994-sm.jpg A very under-rated villain who was also a 8 on my creepy factor, Scarecrow, just look at him. http://superherouniverse.com/wallpap...crow_small.jpg Some not so creepy, such as Mr. Freeze http://www.toydreams.co.uk/images/ba...n/mrfreeze.jpg Also, I didn't find the Penguin that creepy, now Danny DeVito in Batman Returns, another story. His makeup helped ALOT. http://content.answers.com/main/cont...px-Pengers.JPG http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.ya...returnsdvd.jpg |

X-Men/Spider-Man Following very closely to already popular comic arcs allowed these shows to be a little more sophisticated than your average Saturday morning cartoon. It's a bit of a cop out to put these together, but what made one great was the same thing which made the other great. 4. Hey Arnold! Nickeloden's adolescent "Nicktoon" is one of the most clever shows I have seen. Plus, I think I sympathized with the main character when he was made fun of for he size and shape of his head. 3. Clone High This short run series jabbed as much at history as it did at High School as clones of important historical figures occupy the same school. 2. Batman: The Animated Series The art on this show was breathtaking. The creators managed to salvage the darkness of Batman, while remaining a show kids will love. 1. The Simpsons The pinnacle of animated satire, "The Simpons" has been kicking for 20 years. Unafraid to defend its physical humor (Groundskeeper Willie cleaning up vomit) with biting wit (him pacifying the child with "It's alright lad, you remind me why I got into this business in the first place.") "The Simpsons" is the greatest animated show, and perhaps the greatest show in the history of TV. |
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
Sorry to double post. I jsut felt it would be easier to read if I put my Top 5 Animated Films in a different post. So here ya go:
Top 5 Animated Films: 5. Aladdin This was a childhood favorite. This movie really spoke for young women as Jasmine was not the do nothing princess: she spoke for herself and was fairly headstrong. Jafar is one of the best Disney villains, and Gilbert Godfrey's Iago is pretty fantastic. However, Robin Williams Genie stole the show: "Oh, Al. I'm gettin' kinda fond of you, kid. Not that I wanna pick out curtains or anything." 4. Wallace and Gromit and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit Hilarious film! It is endless parade of puns which keep me with some side splitting laughs. 3. Fantasia Moving music, iconic images. Easily one of the greatest animated films ever. I had nightmares for months about the Devil and the broom. The broom! I was a nerd. 2. Toy Story This film is very funny, but also quite beautiful. It evokes child-like enthusiasm from me and most people I know. Amazing film. 1. Princess Monoke This is a stunning movie. Simply stunning. I do not have enough space to adequately right how I feel. I think I might watch it again and review it so I can do it justice. |
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
Lion King, Pocahontas, and Shrek are my best cartoon ever...
|
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
Tom and Jerry for me., really entertaining.,
|
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
1. The Flintstones
2. The Simpsons 3. Shrek |
Re: The Best Cartoon Ever
The best cartoons ever were the Tex Avery productions starring "Red"--the 1940s very sexy version of Jessica Rabbit--and the love-struck Wolf in Red Hot Riding Hood, Swing Shift Cinderella, Little Rural Riding Hood. Red and the Wolf also teamed with Droopy in The Shooting of Dan McGrew and Wild and Woolfy.
Droopy and the Wolf also paired up in some very funny cartoons, the best being Homesteader Droopy where Droopy, Mrs. Droopy, and infant standoff the Woof. Droopy and Spike were another funny pairing in the Tex Avery cartoons. |
