POLICE STORY 2 - CHINA BECOMES BOOMTOWN
Starring, directed and written by Jackie Chan Written by Edward Tang Masahiro Kakefuda Produced by Leonard Ho Starring Maggie Cheung Bill Tung Lam Kwok-Hung Chor Yuen Charlie Cho Benny Lai Mars Release date (Hong Kong): 20 August, 1988 October 10, 2007 (Australia) While Police Story 2 is an amazing film, there's something that Police Story 1 just had that Police Story 2 doesn't. Police Story 2 has 4 major fight/stunt/beat up scenes like with Police Story, but Police Story 2 had more comedy, and all the fights were for a reason. Two fights in Police Story 2 is started by the villains of Police Story (John and Tom Chu) disrespecting May and Kevin, but the fights in Police Story were started by the bad guys. The first fight was another attempt to get Selina, the second was an attempt to beat Kevin so he didn't rescue Selina, and the third was so that all of Chu's men didn't get the briefcase with the proof of a murder in it. Anyways, Police Story 2 also lacks funny parts. May entering the men's bathroom and acting like a moron is supposed to be funny, but it isn't. It just makes me not like May even more. That's how you know they're a good actor. The big stunt in Police Story 2 was also very cool, but it wasn't played at 3 angles (and wasn't as cool as the mall slide in Police Story 1). Maybe one day Australia will be hit with a bomb and I'll stop the bombs... |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by Renny Harlin Screenplay by Steven E. de Souza Doug Richardson Based on 58 Minutes by Walter Wager Produced by Charles Gordon Lawrence Gordon Joel Silver Starring Bruce Willis Bonnie Bedelia William Atherton Reginald VelJohnson Franco Nero William Sadler John Amos Release date: July 3, 1990 August 30, 1990 (Australia) Synopsis In 1990, A year after his heroics in L.A, detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) is mixed up in another terrorist plot, this time at Washington Dulles International Airport, where he is waiting for his wife (Bonnie Bedelia). That same night, South American politico and drug profiteer Ramon Esperanza (Franco Nero) is arriving in U.S. custody. McClane takes action when a treasonous ex-colonel (William Sadler) seizes control of the airport, threatening to crash every inbound flight unless Esperanza is freed. Review Hard take but Die Harder is better then Die Hard. Why? Well, this movie is funnier, has better writing, and better fight scenes. Also, the villian's death in this movie is incredible. Die Hard 2 is a Christmas flick that can be watched at any time of the year. It's great, the villains are better, and the writing in this movie is more genius. When we cut to Holly on the plane with the old lady and Thornburg, we get countless funny scenes, but also some other serious ones like when they're praying after finding out about the other plane crash. Constanza does a great job at being the bad protagonist, and Willis' acting is actually better in this one then last time. Die Hard 2 is a great flick with a great cast and writing, and you should watch it NOW. My only advice is that if you're on a plane and they have this movie in the film selection, don't watch it. It's probably cut by... 1hr, 55m. (p.s. the film is 1hr, 57m) Rating: 8/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
It might be weird to review Armour of God 2 without watching the first movie, but there's extreme nudity in that one, and the first 2 minutes were weird enough for me to turn off the TV and watch something else.
Starring, written and directed by Jackie Chan Written by Edward Tang Produced by Raymond Chow Leonard Ho Starring Carol Cheng Eva Cobo de Garcia Shôko Ikeda (池田昌子) Synopsis Asian Hawk (Jackie Chan) -- code name Condor -- is a secret agent for hire. Assigned by a Turkish duke to find stolen Nazi gold buried in the Sahara Desert, Condor must face mercenaries, guards and one remaining Nazi (Aldo Sánchez) who wants the treasure he helped steal all those years ago. Even after teaming up with three inept ladies (Carol "Do Do" Cheng, Eva Cobo de Garcia, Masako Ikeda), Condor still has his work cut out for him on his hunt for the stolen loot. Review So, Armour of God 2 is a pretty mediocre movie but the film has a good plot and good fight scenes. I don't have a lot to say, except in my opinion the film started out a bit boring. Police Story started out with an epic gun-fight, Police Story 2 started with a recap of Police Story, Die Hard started out with hilarious dialogue by McClane and Argyle, Drunken Master started out with a fight, Snake in The Eagle's Shadow started out with comedy, and this movie started out boring. If you do get your hands on this film, fly away like a condor and watch something else - like Die Hard or Project S. Oh yeah, there are 3 butts in this movie, so you might wanna stick around for that. 6/10 |

Directed by and starring Lau Ka Leung Co-directed by and starring Jackie Chan Screenplay by Edward Tang Tong Man-ming Yuen Chieh-chi Produced by Eric Tsang Edward Tang Barbie Tung Starring Anita Mui Ti Lung Felix Wong Ho Wing-fong Chin Ka-lok Lau Ka-yung Ram Cheung Ken Lo Ho-Sung Pak Andy Lau Yvonne Yung Suki Kwan Vindy Chan Release date: February 3, 1994 Synopsis From a land where honour and tradition reign, comes the legend of a martial-arts hero unlike any other -- the "Drunken Master" -- who can turn just one drink into devastation and humiliation for his enemies. His technique is fast, furious... and powerfully funny. Fei-hung Wong (Jackie Chan), a young martial artist who knows the ways of Drunken Boxing is caught between respecting his pacifist father's wishes or stopping a group of disrespectful foreigners from stealing precious artifacts when Wong Fei-Hung is unwittingly caught in a battle between smugglers who want to steal ancient Chinese artefacts and loyalists who are determined to save the pieces from leaving the country. Review Drunken Master II / The Legend of Drunken Master was Jackie Chan's first traditional martial arts film for 12 years since the release of Dragon Lord (1982). While he hadn't done any martial arts films for twelve years, wow. He definetly improved with DRUNKEN MASTER 2! Drunken Master 2 is the pinnacle of Hong Kong 90s action films right beside the US cut of Supercop (1995). Watching as Chan gets his butt beat, you know he's gonna win but it's super interesting to see. The movie also has an inpeccable soundtrack in both versions, scored by William Hu in the original version and Micheal Wandmacher in the Dimension Films / Miramix re-release. I'm not saying that Micheal W's is bad, but it's like store-bought pizza. The real thing is better, and in this case the real thing is William Hu's score. Micheal W's score is just "durr insert Asian noises" and so is the original, but because it's about an Asian fighting style. Not to mention it actually uses Asian instruments beautifully. William takes the win. The movie also teaches a lesson to drinking and all the bad things that happen to Fei-hung (getting beat up, disowned AGAIN just like in Drunken Master 1, and brain damage at the end of Hong Kong's OG version of the film) unlike 1978's Drunken Master, which glorified drinking. The film shows a lesson, has impeccable music and fight choreography, and a mix of Lau Kar-leung's serious action which is more respectful and accurate to actual Drunken Boxing / Drunken Fist / Drunken Fairy / Drunken Monkey (Jui kuen/Zui quan) Jackie Chan's comedy kung fu. The movie also has multiple scenes with comedy during fights, like when Kei-ying fought his own son and Fei-Hung started touching his nose and saying "Oh, papa ha ha what a cute nose!" and when Anita Mui's character (Wong Ling) fakes pregnancy to not get her stepson in trouble, and when Fei-hung spits out kerosene on a burning rod and he looks at the flame then to Ken Lo with an impressed face then goes back to beating him up. Same with when Fei Hung throws a gosh-darn temper tantrum right in the middle of the fight and breaks a box then goes back to fighting him, then at the end of the fight Fei hung blows a bubble out his mouth, has a fazed/shocked expression then falls unconscious to the ground. Anyways, Let us have a non-alchaholic drink to how amazing this movie is. |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Think fast. Look alive. Die Hard - with a vengeance.
Directed by John McTiernan Screenplay by Jonathan Hensleigh Based on Simon Says by Jonathan Heinsleigh Produced by John McTiernan Michael Tadross Starring Bruce Willis Jeremy Irons Samuel L. Jackson Graham Greene Colleen Camp Larry Bryggman Sam Phillips Release date: May 19, 1995 May 25, 1995 (Australia) Synopsis Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) is now divorced, alcoholic and jobless after getting fired for his reckless behavior and bad attitude. He is called back into action, however, when a cryptic terrorist (Jeremy Irons) takes New York City hostage in a lethal game of "Simon Says" and refuses to speak with anyone but McClane. Teaming up with a street-savvy electrician named Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), McClane dashes through the city, trying to stay one step ahead of a murderous plot. Review Die Hard 3 is the perfect action movie. Okay, so maybe half the movies I've watched are better then this, but Samuel and Bruce make a great duel, and the fight choreography is amazing in the movie. While the movie is not as good as Die Hard and Die Harder, it still has the same feel and even more awesome scenes. Die Hard 3 is a great recommendation, and if you have nothing better to do, then you should probably be watching this movie. Rating: 7/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Produced by and starring Jackie Chan Directed by Stanley Tong Written by Edward Tang Ma Fibe Yee Lee Wai Produced by Willie Chan Edward Tang Leonard Ho Starring Michelle Khan Maggie Cheung Ken Tsang Yuen Wah Bill Tung Josephine Koo Wong Siu Synopsis To infiltrate a drug cartel, Royal Hong Kong Police Force Inspector Kevin Chan (Jackie Chan) goes undercover in a Chinese prison. There, he earns the trust of Panther (Yuen Wah), a cartel member, by breaking him out of prison. With the help of another undercover agent, Jessica Yang, (Michelle Khan), they travel to Hong Kong and join up with Panther's gang. Ka Kui is accepted by the gang's leader (Ken Tsang), but his operation is jeopardized when Kevin's girlfriend, May (Maggie Cheung) accidentally reveals his true identity. https://www.filmlinc.org/wp-content/...-c-default.jpgReview Supercop is easily the best work in the Police Story series. Jackie Chan and his stunt team went all out on this one. Unlike First Strike which was overloaded with comedy (like putting too much salt on a food), the comedy in this was funny and subtle. Anyway, Michelle Khan is a great actress, and this is the movie that introduced me to her. Her movies are insane, and soon enough you'll be seeing more of her on this site (infact, reviews of Supercop 2 and Yes Madam are coming soon) Super Cop is one of the best Chan films ever. It must have taken months to come up with choreography. Jackie Chan is a legend. This movie is one you wish never ever ended, unlike it's spinoff, Supercop 2, which I gave up on watching after 2 minutes. I'll be watching it again for the sake of the blog. Not to mention, Dimension Film and Miramax's edit and voice casting choice of films is actually amazing, including this one, and it's actually great they got Chan and Khan to voice for the film. I'm not exageratting when I say this movie is the best movie of the whole 1990s. Watch it for yourself! Superheroes? Forget them. We have the one and only Supercop. 10/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by STANLEY TONG Written by Edward Tang Fibe Ma Produced by Barbie Tung Starring Jackie Chan Anita Mui Françoise Yip Bill Tung Garvin Cross Synopsis Royal Hong Kong Police Force cop Ma Hon Keung (Jackie Chan) arrives in New York City for the wedding of his uncle Bill Wong (Bill Tung), a grocer who recently sold his Bronx store to the fetching Elaine (Anita Mui). After a biker gang bursts into the store to wreak havoc, Keung springs into action, giving up his vacation to defend the weak and protect the innocent with his extraordinary martial arts skills. As Keung investigates local gangs, he learns more about a criminal syndicate that needs to be brought to justice. https://www.writeups.org/wp-content/...ackie-Chan.jpgReview So, if I had no expectations from the movie, I wouldn't be dissapointed. But this film introduced Jackie Chan to Americans, and was pretty bad which makes you understand why the American films from Jackie are horrible. Firstly, Jackie's English prounounciation is pretty cringe (it was even worse back in 1980) but he was still learning English in the 1990s, so I can't blame him. Secondly, Elaine is an annoying character who fondly reminds me of May from the first 3 Police Stories, who can't understand that Keung is a cop and when arresting bad people, a LOT of things are destroyed in the process of cop heroics. Ever watched Police Story, idiot? Thirdly, the movie has no funny comedy scenes. A scene where Keung goes into Bill's store and says hi to a random woman thinking that she's his aunt is pretty normal. Until you get the rest of the scene were Bill is married to a black (mildly) obese woman. That scene just felt racist to me. Speaking of racism, all black characters are portrayed as loud annoying individuals, which is annoyingly stereotypical.. most of the time. (Chris Tucker, why?!) Fourthly, the gang in New York is unrealistic and are bad villians. Tell me, if a movie has villians that aren't criminals would you find it interesting? Anyways, the only parts of the film I liked were the fight scenes (there were only 2 good ones), the stunt, and the outtakes, which is particularly what I was waiting for. So, uhh.. Rumble in The Bronx is a terrible cop movie and proves Americans like anything from America. So here is my way of how to watch the film: Beginning of film, skip to the market fight. Then skip to next fight. Then next fight. Then big stunt. Then next fight. Next stunt. Then outtakes. Finish. 3/10 |

Directed and written by Stanley Tong Screenplay by Nick Tramontane Greg Mellott Elliot Tong Produced by Barbie Tung Starring Jackie Chan Wu fChen-chun Jackson Lou Bill Tung Nonna Grishayeva Synopsis A Hong Kong police detective, Jackie (Jackie Chan), works with the CIA to track a mysterious woman named Natasha (Grishajeva Nonna). She is suspected of delivering money to a terrorist, Jackson Tsui (Jackson Liu), who is trying to obtain a nuclear warhead from the Russian mob. Traveling from Hong Kong to the Ukraine to Australia, Chan aims to bust up the terrorist plot using his fists as much as his brains, doing battle underwater, on stilts and across mountain tops. Review So the movie was not what I expected, in a good way. I love this film. It has the same comedy aspect as Project Awhere it makes me wonder if it was promoted as a comedy-action. However, with First Strike there was comedy for most of the scenes, and even during a hotel chase. The fight scenes in this movie have no comedy, which is great. Your only focus is on the great moves and tricks and hits from Jackie. The movie also has beautiful views from Brisbane, Australia. I live in Sydney, and trust me, in 2023, it doesn't compare to Brisbane in 1995. First Strike is an amazing film. Want to see an underwater fight, a helicopter stunt, ladder fight, hotel chase and Jackie Chan's butt? First Strike's the way to go. P.S. this is NOT the first time Jackie Chan fights for America. Rumble in The Bronx existed 2 years before this film. 8/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Screenplay and story by Ross LaManna Directed by Brett Ratner Screenplay by Jim Kouf Produced by Roger Birnbaum Jonathan Glickman Arthur M. Sarkissian Starring Jackie Chan Chris Tucker Tzi Ma Tom Wilkinson Ken Leung Elizabeth Peña Mark Rolston Rex Linn Synopsis When a Chinese diplomat's daughter is kidnapped in Los Angeles, he calls in Royal Hong Kong Police Force Detective Inspector Yan-Naing Lee (Jackie Chan) to assist the FBI with the case. But the FBI doesn't want anything to do with Lee, and they dump him off on the LAPD, who assign wisecracking Los Angeles Police Department Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) to watch over him. Although Lee and Carter can't stand each other, they choose to work together to solve the case on their own when they figure out they've been ditched by both the FBI and police. Review If you're not a die hard fan of Jackie and haven't seen his Hong Kong movies, this is probably your favourite one from him. Like Cal from debmul53.tripod.com says, "if Jackie Chan’s Hong Kong films can be compared to Domino’s Pizza (and I think they can), then his American films should be compared to supermarket own-brand frozen pizza. They’re ok, but they’re just not the real thing." While Jackie Chan is actually funny and has cool fights and stunts in this movie, Chris Tucker is just loud... and funny as hell for that. The movie's plot is basic and sounds like almost every 90s cop movie from Dimension Films or 20th Century Fox or New Line (who distributed the movie). There's nothing extraordinary about this one. It's kinda funny (at least the bloopers are), got good fight scenes with Chan, and... well... that's about it. 6.8/10 |

Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld
Written by Ed Solomon Based on The Men in Black by Lowell Cunningham Produced by Walter F. Parkes Laurie MacDonald Starring Tommy Lee Jones Will Smith Linda Fiorentino Vincent D'Onofrio Rip Torn Release date: 11 September 1997 (Australia) Synopsis They are the best-kept secret in the universe. Working for a highly funded yet unofficial government agency, Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) and Jay (Will Smith) are the Men in Black, providers of immigration services and regulators of all things alien on Earth. While investigating a series of unregistered close encounters, the MIB agents uncover the deadly plot of an intergalactic terrorist who is on a mission to assassinate two ambassadors from opposing galaxies currently in residence in New York City. Review Judging from what I've already watched from him, Men in Black is one of Will Smith's best movies. The movie was made out to be a film that focused on the plot in hilarious ways and it worked. Will Smith is a terrific actor and so is Lee Jones, but Will is the highlight of the film. Men in Black is a hilarious Sci-Fi film, one of the actual GOOD Sci-Fi movies, and I recommend it. I'd give it a higher score if I actually remembered more about the film. It's been 4 years since watching it, and I might give it a rewatch. Hopefully Smith doesn't slap me for not giving it a 10. Rating: 6/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by Brett Ratner Written by Jeff Nathanson Produced by Roger Birnbaum Starring Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, John Lone, Zhang Ziyi Release date: August 3, 2001 Synopsis While LAPD Detective James Carter and RHKPF Chief Inspector Lee are vacationing in Hong Kong, a bomb explosion at the US Consulate kills two undercover customs agents. Soon, Lee is assigned to solve the case. Review Hate me or not, this film is THE best Rush Hour film so far. Firstly, the humor has become ] better, Jackie Chan's acting has improved, and the fight choreography is better. Sure, the film is from the US, but it has Jackie's classic slapstick from his Hong Kong movies, and a big stunt (TWO of them! ONE DONE BY CHRIS TUCKER!) |

Screenplay by David Koepp Produced by Laura Ziskin Ian Bryce Starring Tobey Maguire Willem Dafoe Kirsten Dunst James Franco Cliff Robertson Rosemary Harris Release date: May 3, 2002 June 6, 2002 (Australia) Synopsis "Spider-Man" centers on student Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) who, after being bitten by a genetically-altered spider, gains superhuman strength and the spider-like ability to cling to any surface. He vows to use his abilities to fight crime, coming to understand the words of his beloved Uncle Ben: "With great power comes great responsibility." Review Spider-Man is one of the greatest franchises ever, okay? I've only seen the movies and I love them so much. Tobey Maguire has realistic and great acting and the fight scenes are amazing for a fantasy 2001 movie based off a kids comic book. I can say that this besides the Avengers is the only superhero franchise I like. LazyTown doesn't count. Aaanyways, Spider-Man is a faithful adaptation to the comic and you need to watch it. It's not babyish or childish, it's the OPPOSITE. So swing to the DVD shop and rent the film. |

MIIB
irected by Barry Sonnenfeld Screenplay by Robert Gordon Barry Fanaro Story by Robert Gordon Based on The Men in Black by Lowell Cunningham Produced by Walter F. Parkes Laurie MacDonald Starring Tommy Lee Jones Will Smith Lara Flynn Boyle Johnny Knoxville Rosario Dawson Tony Shalhoub Rip Torn Synopsis Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) and Jay (Will Smith) reunite to provide our best line of defense against a seductress who levels the toughest challenge yet to the MIBs mission statement: protecting the earth from the scum of the universe. While investigating a routine crime, Jay uncovers a plot masterminded by Serleena (Boyle), a Kylothian monster who disguises herself as a lingerie model. When Serleena takes the MIB building hostage, there is only one person Jay can turn to -- his former MIB partner. Review I have nothing to say about the film. I have the same feelings about it as with the original Men In Black, but it doesn't add up to the original. The humor has slightly become less funny. Rating: 5/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed and produced by Benny Chan
Starring and produced by Jackie Chan Screenplay by Alan Yuen Produced by Willie Chan Benny Chan Barbie Tung Solon So Starring Nicholas Tse Charlie Yeung Charlene Choi Daniel Wu Wang Chieh Synopsis Inspector Chan Kwok-Wing (Jackie Chan) was once the shining star of the Hong Kong police force. But that all changed when his unit was slaughtered by a merciless gang of bank robbers -- and Chan turned to the bottle to drown his grief. Now, a year later, a soused Chan is dragged out of his rut by a new partner, Frank Cheng (Nicholas Tse). Together, they hit the streets to redeem Chan's reputation by going after those responsible for the deaths of his fellow officers. Review New Police Story is definitely worth watching. Sure, some of the acting is pretty bad which is rare in a Chan movie.. wait.. Police Story 1. Nevermind. Anyways, the film has little to no funny parts, which is rare in a Chan movie, but it still rocks. The film's fight scenes are amazing and the characters were amazingly casted. The only thing that ticks me off is that they try to make audiences sympathetise for Joe Kwan [the villian] because of how bad his father is.. but no. He's just a jerk. Family or not. Anyways, New Police Story is very worth your time, and if you DO have time, you should definetly watch it. Darker films don't stop Jackie Chan from making masterpieces. Maybe the comedy is stopping him from reaching his potentional. 9.3/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by Sam Raimi
Screenplay by Alvin Sargent Story by Alfred Gough Miles Millar Michael Chabon Produced by Laura Ziskin Avi Arad Starring Tobey Maguire Kirsten Dunst James Franco Alfred Molina Rosemary Harris Donna Murphy Synopsis When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man. Review I have the same thoughts on Spider-Man 2 as on Spider-Man 1, even though Spider-Man 1 is slightly better, and this one is a bit sadder. The fight scene quality went down a bit in this one, but the film is still good. So swing your way back home and watch another film. |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...7/notfunny.png SynopsisDirected by Len Wiseman Screenplay and story by Mark Bomback Story by David Marconi Based on "A Farewell to Arms" by John Carlin Produced by Michael Fottrell Starring Bruce Willis Justin Long Timothy Olyphant Mary Elizabeth Winstead Cliff Curtis Maggie Q Release date: June 22, 2007 Release date: August 10, 2007 (Australia) As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, veteran cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) carries out another routine assignment: bringing in a computer hacker (Justin Long) for questioning. Meanwhile, a tech-savvy villain named Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) launches an attack on America's computer infrastructure. As chaos descends around him, McClane must use old-fashioned methods to fight the high-tech threat. Review Die Hard 4.0 was produced from 2005-2006, where special effects started to get very advanced, so that's why this movie is loaded with them. Unlike most of my favourite action films (Police Story, Project A, Super Cop), almost half the movie is CGI and VFX and it still manages to be likeable. The movie is bombarded with funny dialogue between Matt and McClane, which portrayers both have amazing chemistry together. While the movie is PG-13, you might expect that to impact some of the action, but the only thing it DID impact was the profanity. Many f-bombs and s-words were cut out but put back in for the Unrated Version. But despite what version I watched the film in, it was still good and not a disappointment. The fight scenes are still up to the same standard [and a bit better] then in the first three movies. The quality in this movie has seem to gone up. Old Habits of making a mediocre film Died Hard. And lastly, the important question - Live free or Die Hard? Die hard. Definetly. |

Written by Edmond Wong Chan Tai-lee Produced by Raymond Wong Starring Donnie Yen Simon Yam Lynn Hung Gordon Lam Fan Siu-wong Xing Yu Chen Zhihui Hiroyuki Ikeuchi Tenma Shibuya Release date: 18 December, 2008 January 2009 (Australia) Synopsis In 1930s China, a martial artist loses his home after the Imperial Japanese Army invades the country. With little means to survive, he must find a way to sustain his family. Review Ip Man is a very serious filmabout horrible crimes the Japanese commited in the time of WW2. Yeah, sure none of it impacts me mentally, but it's still bad. Anyways, Ip Man's action scenes might not have any life-threatening over the top stunts, but the film does not dissapoint. It shows a (kinda) accurate description of the life of Ip Man while mixing it with carefully and perfectly choreographed action scenes for this type of film. The film makes the biography genre amazing to watch, with amazing writing and great acting. This was the film that introduced me to Donnie Yen and the only reason why Jackie Chan isn't the only action star I watch a lot. His films don't dissapoint to and this is an example of it. Ip Man is a great film, that might be boring at some times with a dull background score, but the film's contents in itself are amazing. Yeah, Bruce Lee's amazing.. but do you ever think about who taught him? This is the film about his life. |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by Brian Levant Screenplay and story by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer Screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein James Greer Gregory Poirier Produced by Robert Simonds Starring Jackie Chan Amber Valletta Madeline Carroll Will Shadley Magnús Scheving Billy Ray Cyrus George Lopez Release date: January 15, 2010 25 March, 2010 (Australia) Synopsis Bob Ho (Jackie Chan), an undercover operative for the Central Intelligence Agency, decides to give up his career and marry his girlfriend, Gillian (Amber Valletta). First however, he has one more mission to complete: Gain the approval of Gillian's children. Bob volunteers to baby-sit when Gillian is called away, but the operation hits a snag when one of the kids mistakenly downloads a top-secret formula, and Anton Poldark, a Russian terrorist (Magnus Scheving) takes aim at Bob's prospective family. Review This film sucks. I can remember a lot from it and have no idea why I liked it. Firstly, the kids in this movie hate Bob Ho for no reason. Sure he isn't your father, but do you have to make life hard for him? That just triggered me. I always hated seeing the hero hated. Secondly, the fight scenes in the movie are bombared by childish sound effects that are supposed to be funny. I guess when you're seven it is, but I'm mature [and ten years old] and don't laugh at it at all. Thirdly, it's a Halloween film. My religion and country prohibit Halloween, but what sucks is that the film doesn't even foreshadow it being October. Once I saw everyone in costumes and trick-or-treating, I was like- 'Huh? It's Halloween?' Lastly - about 20 or 35 minutes worth of this 94 minute film are actually funny and possible to laugh at. The other are not. The only thing that makes it good is Jackie Chan's charm and Magnus Scheving's performance. Not to mention the ending credits, which have bloopers funnier then the film. But when you think of it as a film to have a good time with and not take too seriously, you can find it pretty good, if you have a mental illness. |

Directed by Taika Waititi Written by Eric Pearson Craig Kyle Christopher L. Yost Produced by Kevin Feige Starring Chris Hemsworth Tom Hiddleston Cate Blanchett Idris Elba Jeff Goldblum Tessa Thompson Karl Urban Mark Ruffalo Anthony Hopkins Release date: November 3, 2017 October 13: 2017 (Australia) Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization. Review This film is amazing. Trust me. You need to watch it. First of all - the fight scene between Hulk and Thor was veeery nerve-racking and amazing, because it wasn't eye-candy, it literally added to the plot. Secondly - The film is amazingly funny, and I can't believe it wasn't promoted as a comedy film. Half of the serious scenes have comedy added to them at inappropriate times and they turn out to be the best part of the film. Also, Chris Hemsworth. Rating: 9/10 |

Directed by Edward Tang Barry Wong Produced by Raymond Chow Leonard Ho Starring Mars Hwang In-Shik Tien Feng Synopsis Dragon is the son of a Chinese aristocrat who is always getting in trouble, and likes to skip his lessons. Dragon tries to send a love note to the girl he likes via a kite, but the kite gets away. Dragon tries to get the kite and letter back which have landed on the roof of the headquarters of a gang of thieves who are planning to steal artifacts from the towns temple. Dragon interferes with the gang's plans and is forced to fight off the gang. Review Some legend on YouTube put the Australian English dub of this film from 1983 onto their channel. Being the mega Jackie fan I am [and because of the fact I literally own a blog dedicated to action films), I took time to watch the movie and ultimately enjoyed it. There are a lot of reasons I love this movie. It's very different. This film has Jackie playing.. not as a cop, but the lacking son of a rich businessman. Wow. Not only is Jackie's character different, but one of the major things in the films is different. Jackie and his village boys do sports! This is an action sports film. SPORTS. While you might not be used to sports in Jackie's films (considering this is 1 out of 2 of them), you should be because this is amazing. Speaking of the sports, the movie starts off with all the people in Dragon's village CLIMBING UP THE TOP of a ******* pyramid to get a rugby ball. 3 minutes in the film and we already get an amazing sequence. A seven minute sequence. Then 5 minutes after the end of the sequence, we get a fight scene between Dragon and Cowboy.. over a girl. For 2 minutes. Until everyone starts freaking out because Dragon's father comes in the scene right after Dragon says he's not scared of his dad. Then 15 minutes later we get ANOTHER sports scene. FOR TEN MINUTES. Ever see that in Jackie Chan films? NO. And DON'T bring up Dragons Forever. That's not a sports movie. Still, I kinda feel bad for anyone who got the version of the movie where the rugby match is at the end. The film was a combo of Mars and Chan. You rarely see Mars fight in films, but when he does, he does an amazing job. Mars is the best stuntman of Jackie and I wish we saw him in more films. Mars plays Cowboy and Chan plays Dragon. They are best friends in this movie and are probably the best duo ever seen in a Jackie Chan film. In the final fight, Dragon falls from the top floor and Cowboy literally breaks his fall by making sure Dragon landed on him. Didn't go too well the first time in shooting. (Jackie is in the black. You can guess who Mars is.) The subtle comedy was perfectly placed at times and was not too pushy. Some of the comedy is put in during life-defying fight scenes as well. Just goes to show that Dragon really doesn't care. Speaking of the fights, Hwang in-Shik and Jackie fight again, two years after The Young Master (which Dragon Lord was supposed to serve as a sequel to, except Jackie doesn't win by drinking any tobacco water. He wins.. by piling him up in a sack of potatos. Wow. Jackie Chan really got a beating back in the 80s. (Dragon Lord, Police Story 2, Wheels on Meals..) Anyways, back to the comedy, the English adaption writers did a great job. That's sometimes why I prefer the dub over the sub. The stunt-work on the film was actually amazing and impressed so much for Jackie's third directed film only. Jackie's stunt team did a wild amazing job on this. This is the first film where Jackie started expirementing with stunt sequences. This is the start of the Jacky Chan that we ALL KNOW and love. Just imagine if he didn't like stunt sequences. Just imagine if he never even did them! This blog would only have like 10 reviews. The American in Jackie & Mars keep showing. The soundtrack is a bit repetitive, but it is a great soundtrack song and I hate that I can't find it anywhere. The old 80s dubbing makes the film more enjoyable. It might be horrible, but it sure has that charm. It is way better then the new 21st century dubs of foreign films, which unfortunately was used in the 88 Films trailer for the new Blu-Ray release of Dragon Lord. Dragon Lord is definetly a great pick, and shows resemblance to the Young Master which I reviewed December of 2023. Just a spolier: no real dragons (or lords) appear in the film. Rating: 9.5/10 |

Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed by and starring Sammo Hung
Directed by Corey Yuen Screenplay by Roy Szeto Story by Gordon Chan Leung Yiu-ming Produced by Leonard Ho Starring Jackie Chan Yuen Biao Deannie Yip Pauline Yeung Crystal Kwok Distributed by Golden Harvest Release date 11 February 1988 Synopsis Three successful Hong Kong lawyers are hired by a chemical company of questionable ethics and must eventually make a difficult decision when their employer's motives become clear. Review Petaia's Entertainment World, a channel ran by an action fan who uploads clips from movies starring Jackie Chan, Michelle Khan and Bruce Lee in 4K uploaded the English dub of the extended Japanese release of "Dragons Forever". Knowing this would make for a good review (and it's a ******* Jackie Chan movie), I watched the film and did not regret it Normally, whenever I watch a movie, it annoys me when there's more of something in the film - like more drama then action, or more comedy then drama. In Dragons Forever, there are 22 minutes worth of fight scenes, and I'm not complaining. The romantic scenes in this movie were actually heart warming and when Johnny and Mei-ling got back together I was super happy. The fight scenes were super intense and my heart was beating the whole time. And, I admit, I gasped when everyone in the factory was looking at Luke. I knew blud was walking out with 5 black eyes after that one (he didn't). The choreography is clean, timed out, and it actually was better then I thought it'd be. I thought it would be a bit of a boring flick, but nooo, the fight scenes start 3 minutes and 55 seconds in the Japanese release (also, it's a 2 v 4 fight, which is slightly more realistic then most JC fights). Nobody ever comes to a Jackie Chan film wanting Romeo and Juliet. Then after watching this film, they actually do. Rating: 10/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed and written by Stanley Tong
Written by Sandy Shaw Produced by Barbie Tung So Haau Leung Starring Michelle Yeoh Yu Rong Guang Emil Chau Jackie Chan Release date: December 22, 1999 Synopsis As a crime wave sweeps through Hong Kong, the police call on Jessica Yang, a rising star in their ranks, to help stop a notorious gang of thieves. Review I will admit, for my first Michelle Yeoh movie where SHE is in the spotlight, this did not dissapoint. The movie has subtle comedy at times, especially with scenes between Guang and Yeoh. It doesn't have a lot, trust me, but when it does it is pretty funny. The movie has a very great casting choice, a good score, and good voice dubbing for 1998. The action may not be as eye catching as you see in the first 3 other Police Story movies, but it still doesn't dissapoint. And for the people who were expecting a one by one film to Supercop, ehmmm... no. But there are some subtle references, in the dialogue, and even during the fights! Oh, and yeah, there is a lot of glass breaking in this movie, as is with the first 2 Police Story films with Jackie Chan. But one thing that does annoy me is the opening credits. The way it goes is this - action scene, credit, action scene, credit, and it goes ON AND ON for 3 minutes. I mean, if you're GOING to put credits in between an action scene, place them as text on the bottom of the screen, or at least dedicate 2 minutes to the opening credits! Anyways, the film is pretty good, fight scenes are good, dubbing is good. Oh, yeah, that Chackie Jan guy or whatever his name is? He's good as well. 7/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
This movie is the reason there's a 'POW' in "female emPOWerment"
Directed by Corey Yuen Written by Barry Wong Produced by Samo Hung Starring Michelle Yeoh Cynthia Rothrock John Shum Mang Hoi Release date (Hong Kong): November 30, 1985 Synopsis Two unlucky thieves break into a just murdered man's hotel room and steal his passport with a hidden microfilm wanted by a triad boss. Two hard kicking women cops from HK and UK get the case. Review This is the first Michelle Yeoh film I've watched fully without Jackie Chan with it, and it did not dissapoint. The fight choreography is truly amazing and eye-catching like no other 'Girls With Guns' movie. The stunt co-ordination performed by Yeoh and Rothrock is truly epic. Secondly, Dick Wei's performance as the scary villian is amazing. No matter what role I see this guy in, he is super intimidating. (Sorry, Urquidez) This film is a bit of an alternative to Police Story. The opening chase is shot in the same place as it is in Police Story, there are tons of sequences with glass breaking, (the big stunts in both films involve glass) and of course, the over-confident jerk of a villian. Now, I must talk about the ending. The ending has a bit of an annoying turning out. In NO version of the movie we get to see what happens after the ending (One of the protagonists shoots the main antagonist in a response to the main antagonist killing one of their best friends). Do Ng and Carrie go to prison? Does the antagonist dies? Who knows? Nobody! Rothrock and Yeoh have amazing chemistry, and they're both different. One is a good madam, the other is a bad madam. One is an inspector, the other is a sergeant. One likes crumpet and teas, one likes ramen (I'm sorry to anyone British or Asian I promise I'll never say anything like this again) Who said girls never knew how to handle guns? 10/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed, written, edited and produced by Robert Rodriguez Produced by Robert Rodriguez Starring Antonio Banderas Carla Gugino Alan Cumming Teri Hatcher Cheech Marin Danny Trejo Robert Patrick Tony Shalhoub Alexa Vega Daryl Sabara Release date (Australia): September 20, 2001 Synopsis
Spy Kids is a very unique film. The characters and CGI could be horrifying and traumatizing to some kids. The events these 2 poor, alone kids go through that could possibly turn their father's co-workers into mindless numbless idiots all alone without their parents.. Oh my god. I love this movie. The film's plot is as wacky as it is entertaining. Thrown into a world of villainous toymakers, mutant sharks, and thumb-tack grappling hooks (yes, you read that right!), Carmen and Juni have to rely on their quick thinking, newfound spy skills, and, of course, each other. Rodriguez's signature over-the-top style keeps the action fast-paced and visually stunning, from the sugar-coated lair of the evil Floop to the gravity-defying Thumb Thumbs Island. But "Spy Kids" isn't just about explosions and gadgets. It's also a heartwarming story about family, sibling rivalry, and believing in yourself. Carmen and Juni, despite their bickering, ultimately learn to work together and overcome their fears. Their parents, Gregorio and Ingrid, played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, are a fun and supportive duo, reminding us that family is always there to have your back, even when you're saving the world from evil toymakers. If there is EVER a "The Spy Next Door Part II", I hope whoever directs it takes notes from this film. 10/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed, written, composed, filmed, edited and produced by Robert Rodriguez Produced by Elizabeth Avellán Starring Antonio Banderas Carla Gugino Alexa Vega Daryl Sabara Mike Judge Ricardo Montalbán Holland Taylor Christopher McDonald Cheech Marin Steve Buscemi Music by John Debney Production company Troublemaker Studios Distributed by Dimension Films Release date: January 10, 2003 (Australia) Synopsis The Cortez siblings set out for a mysterious island, where they encounter a genetic scientist and a set of rival spy kids. Review "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams" blasts onto the screen with the same zany energy and over-the-top spectacle as its predecessor. However, while the sequel retains the fun family spirit, it stumbles in capturing the same magic that made the first movie such a wild unique enjoyable expierence for everyone regardless of age. Carmen and Juni Cortez are back, older, wiser (well, maybe a little), and ready to tackle even wilder missions. This time, they're chasing down the nefarious Romero on a fantastical island filled with giant insects, dream-manipulating robots, and, of course, the ever-present Thumb Thum army. Familiar faces like Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino return as Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez, adding their charm and comedic chops to the mix. Juni Cortez' character is now a girl with a crush, and not a heroic brave take things into her own hands character. Now she has gotten a habit of going against her family thanks to the opposite spy who she admittedly has a crush on. While the premise of "Spy Kids 2" is undeniably fun, it often feels like a retread of the first film. The villain's motivations are a bit muddled, the jokes land with less punch, and the emotional stakes never quite reach the same heights. It's still undeniably entertaining, but there's a sense of déjà vu that can't be shaken. Don't get me wrong, "Island of Lost Dreams" does have its strengths. The visual effects are impressive, especially for a 2002 film, and the action sequences are still thrillingly chaotic. The introduction of the Giggles twins adds a new layer of sibling rivalry, and the film's message about embracing individuality remains heartwarming. Overall, "Spy Kids 2" is a fun, albeit slightly watered-down, sequel that will definitely entertain young audiences. Depending on what you look for in action-comedies, you will have varied opinions. It lacks the originality and emotional depth of the first film, but there's still enough zany charm and family fun to keep you engaged. Just don't expect it to recapture the same lightning-in-a-bottle feeling. Rating: 8/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed, written, filmed, edited, produced, composed and based off a story by Robert Rodriguez Produced by Elizabeth Avellán Starring Antonio Banderas Carla Gugino Alexa Vega Daryl Sabara Ricardo Montalbán Holland Taylor Mike Judge Cheech Marin Sylvester Stallone Production company Troublemaker Studios Distributed by Dimension Films Release date: January 1, 2004 (Australia) Synopsis Under-age agents Juni and Carmen Cortez set out on their newest most mind-blowing mission yet: journeying inside the virtual reality world of a 3-D video game designed to outsmart them, as the awe-inspiring graphics and creatures of gaming come to real life. Relying on humor, gadgetry, bravery, family bonds and lightning-quick reflexes, the Spy Kids must battle through tougher and tougher levels of the game, facing challenges that include racing against road warriors and surfing on boiling lava, in order to save the world from a power hungry villain. Review Okay, so why do I love this movie SO MUCH? Hmmm... let's see. It's a Spy Kids film.. Nah. Maybe because the plot revolve arounds video games? Nope. Too obvious. Oh! Because we get more scenes with Juni! Eeh. Nup. OHHH!! Because it's a Stallone role in a kids film? Maybe. But it's not his first time. Orrrr because it's in 3D! That's dumb. I don't even have 3D glasses. OH! DEFINETLY ALL OF THOSE REASONS! YES! "Spy Kids 3: Game Over" takes a sharp turn into the digital world, pitting Carmen and Juni Cortez against the Toymaker in a virtual reality battleground known as the Toybox. While it may not reach the heights of the original film, it certainly steps up from the somewhat lackluster "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams." Gone are the sugar-coated landscapes and goofy gadgets of the previous films. "Spy Kids 3" embraces a hyper-stylized CGI world, filled with neon landscapes, gravity-defying platforms, and pixelated enemies. The action sequences are exhilarating, with fast-paced chases and inventive use of the virtual environment. Robert Rodriguez was a one-man movie maker, having SIX major roles in the production of this movie. One of the film's weaknesses lies in its plot. The villain, the Toymaker, lacks the charisma and memorable presence of Floop from the first film. The stakes feel lower, and the emotional core of the Cortez family takes a backseat to the flashy visuals. Sylvester Stallone attempts to hold things together with his quadruple roles, but the performances feel uneven. Regardless, they're still ******* hilarious. This is the second Stallone movie I've ever watched and I think it's the best. The film retains the franchise's love for wacky gadgets, with thumbtack grappling hooks and shrink rays still making an appearance. However, the humor feels hit-and-miss, mostly relying on puns and slapstick comedy that might land better with younger audiences. The predeccessors of Spy Kids 3 were mainly more suitable for audiences 10 and older, it was more relatable and the humor was natural. "Spy Kids 3: Game Over" is a visually stunning and action-packed film that provides a nostalgic trip back to the world of Thumb Thumbs and shark fights. However, it lacks the charm, emotional depth, and originality of the first movie. Still, it's a worthwhile addition to the franchise, offering a fun, albeit slightly forgettable, adventure for younger viewers. Rating: 6/10 |

Directed, written, produced and composed by Robert Rodriguez Produced by Robert Rodriguez Elizabeth Avellán Starring Jessica Alba Joel McHale Alexa Vega Daryl Sabara Rowan Blanchard Mason Cook Ricky Gervais Jeremy Piven Cinematography Robert Rodriguez Jimmy Lindsey Edited by Dan Zimmerman Music by Carl Thiel Production company Troublemaker Studios Distributed by Dimension Films RELEASE DATE: SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 (Australia) Directed, written, produced and composed by Robert Rodriguez Produced by Elizabeth Avellán Starring Jessica Alba Joel McHale Alexa Vega Daryl Sabara Rowan Blanchard Mason Cook Ricky Gervais Jeremy Piven Cinematography Robert Rodriguez Jimmy Lindsey Edited by Dan Zimmerman Music by Robert Rodriguez Carl Thiel Production company Troublemaker Studios Distributed by Dimension Films Hmmmm.. yeah no. This film's so bad I can't even make a graphic for it. Okay. One thing that Robert Rodriguez needs to realize is that having a film in 3D or 4D doesn't make it good. And why the hell is Aroma-scope a thing..? I admit, when I was six, I had the idiotic opinion that this was the best addition to the Spy Kids movie series because I had a bad taste in a tiny amount of movie franchises. First of all, the protagonist female in this movie is NOTHING like the funny relatable Carmen. She mocks people and she can't go one goshdarn conversation without bringing up her deceased mother. Maybe her mom's dead because of her constant blabbering..?? Secondly, the use of technology is soooo bad. This is 2011. I get so annoyed when modern films use way too much technology. The first 3 Spy Kids used gadgets and this one is all about computers and devices. Thirdly, WHO WROTE THIS FILM?! The one-liners are ridiculously unfunny and none of this dialogue would be said by real humans with real functioning brains. Also, Robert Rodriguez worked on 6 roles in the first 3 Spy Kids. Now he worked on 4 in this one, and MAN did the quality go down. Thank god the sequel that this film was supposed to have never came out. And, Rodriguez, it would be NOT necessary at all to have it in 5-D. Did the first Spy Kids come out in 1-D? Well, at least there's a good plot and good characters [sometimes]. Really, the only good parts about the film are the scenes with Juni and Carmen. Rating: 2/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
Directed, produced, composed and written by Robert Rodriguez Produced by David Ellison Dana Goldberg Don Granger Elizabeth Avellan Racer Rodriguez Written by Racer Rodriguez Studio(s) Skydance Media Spyglass Media Group Double R Productions Distributor Netflix SYNOPSIS When the children of the world's greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world. Review OH HELL NO. While it reboots the franchise with flashy CGI and a new generation of pint-sized heroes, "Armageddon" stumbles over its own nostalgia, leaving us yearning for the days of thumb thumbs. First, the plot...déjà vu, anyone? It's a carbon copy of the original, with kids unwittingly unleashing a technological menace and stepping up to save the day. Talk about recycled spy gadgets! The sense of originality is as lost as Floop's pet monkey in the sewers. The characters? Well, let's say they're less "kiddie Kobra" and more "whiny chihuahua." Tony and Patty are blander than a bowl of unseasoned popcorn, lacking the spark and charm of Carmen and Juni. Their "softness" wouldn't melt a popsicle, let alone thwart a world-dominating game developer. No idiot would stop a spy by ASKING him to just be kind, Patty. And then there's the dialogue, peppered with more "Spy Kids 1" references than a Carmen Cortez fan convention. It's like Rodriguez is desperately trying to remind us of the franchise's glory days, instead of forging its own path. It's pandering, not pioneering. Ultimately, "Spy Kids: Armageddon" is a nostalgic misfire. It tries to recapture the magic of the original but forgets the ingredients that made it special. It's a pale imitation, leaving us asking: should we just rewatch "Spy Kids 1" and relive the true spy-tastic adventure? Watch at your own risk. Highly a stupid movie. 1/10 |
I really enjoyed Yes, Madam. The Criterion Collection had a Michelle Yeoh collection, so I had the chance to watch quite a few of her films.

Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!
The first Bruce Lee film I have ever watched
Directed by Lo Wei Wu Chia Hsiang Produced by Raymond Chow STARRING Bruce Lee Maria Yi James Tien Han Ying-chieh Cinematography Chen Ching-chu Edited by Sung Ming Music by Wang Fu-ling Distributed by Golden Harvest Release date (Australia): April 1974 Synopsis Cheng is a city boy who moves with his cousins to work at a ice factory. He does this with a family promise never to get involved in any fight. However, when members of his family begin disappearing after meeting the management of the factor, the resulting mystery and pressures forces him to break that vow and take on the villainy of the Big Boss. Review This movie is unrealistic. Cheng Chao An gets arrested for defeating the Big Boss, police officers are beat up and nothing is done about it, Cheng gets drunk and sees a woman at a dinner as his crush, and one of the Big Boss' men are killed with a saw put in their head. Regardless this movie is awesome. This movie has tons of violence, which is what I was looking for. Sometimes it's really really bloody and violent, but not enough to get it banned in May 1973, but too much to get an M rating.Cheng is a can of whup-butt the whole way through the movie. Thank god he broke the oath he sweared to his mother. Before watching The Big Boss / Fists of Fury / Chinese Connection, I would defend Jackie Chan and say he was a million times better then Bruce Lee. And while Chan is still my favourite action star, Lee is amazing too and they both are in their both ways. I highly recommend this movie, no matter which version of it you have. Hopefully I get to see more Lo Wei films. I have a way of watching Fist of Fury, Shaolin Wooden Men and Fearless Hyena now! Rating: 7/10 |
Re: Action Movie Reviews with Moi!

Uncredited co-writer: Ni Kuang Composed by & starring Bruce Lee Produced by Raymond Chow Starring Nora Miao Riki Hashimoto Cinematography Chen Ching-chu Edited by Peter Cheung Music by Joseph Koo Distributed by Golden Harvest Release date (Australia): July 1, 1973 Synopsis A young man seeks vengence for the death of his teacher. Review All I ever hear action cinema fans talk about is how amazing either how good Lee was in Enter the Dragon or how good he was in this movie - Fist of Fury. And I have to say, they are right. Rating: 9.5/10Bruce Lee plays Cheng Zhen, a Chinese Kung-fu student on a rampage to stop the racism in Japan. He kills many people during the process. One of the reasons I live this movie so much is because of how realistic it is. The Japanese in the 20th century were complete jerks. The world isn't all butterflies and toys. Behind the punches and yelling, there is a lesson behind it. The world should be united and not hating each-other no matter the race. The ending is also the most realistic part of the movie, with the main character dying. The good guy always wins right? Well, no. In this movie he kills & hangs at least 6 people, which is illegal, but it was for a good reason!! He gets shot down by the police which are also very unfair to the Chinese residents. And if you just think about 2020, that's pretty accurate to real life. Why is it a rule that in Hong Kong action cinema, the good guy has something bad happen to him at the end? Drunken Master 2, Fei-hung is blind and mentally stupid. The Young Master, Dragon is in a full-body cast. The Big Boss, Cheng-Chao an gets arrested. Urgh. But enough the sad parts of this movie, can we talk about the action? This movie was one of the first to use the classic Nunchucks that Bruce Lee would go on to use in The Way of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon & Game of Death. The action is cleanly choreographed, and it might be so fast, but you can see every hit, and it makes you grimace. Mission succeeded! The beginning fight is one of Lee's most iconic fights ever and I see why. Trust me. He beats up about 20 Japanese students all by himself and with little-to-no emotion. Speaking of emotion, this is a pretty emotional movie, as Lee comes to marry a women but then dies at the end of the movie. This film is one of my highest recommendations, and I guarantee you, you NEED to watch it. |

Directed, written, produced by and starring Bruce Lee Produced by Raymond Chow Starring Nora Miao Paul Wei Huang Chung-hsin Tony Liu Unicorn Chan Chuck Norris Malisa Longo Robert Wall Hwang In-shik Jon T. Benn Cinematography by Tadashi Nishimoto Edited by Peter Cheung Music by Joseph Koo Distributed by Golden Harvest Release date (Australia): October 1974 Synopsis Tang Lung visits his relatives at their restaurant in Italy and has to help them defend against brutal gangsters harassing them. Review The Way of the Dragon. Hmmm. Not exactly his most popular, but definetly MY FAVOURITE! First of all, you can see this film was supposed to be a comedy. Tan Lung asks to use the bathroom in all the first 3 scenes in the movie after he is asked 'anything you'd like?' and I have no idea why but that is too funny to me.Secondly, the casting choice is amazing. All the young boys in the movie play restaurant workers who practice karate. Their line delivery and everything they say feels realistic and natural. This movie is all Lee. He produced it, wrote it, directed & starred in it all perfectly. His character is brave & heroic and that's why he is my favourite in this movie. Thirdly, the action in the movie is like no other. Forget Enter the Dragon, this is way better then this. This movie was the second to have Lee use nunchucks and he does it perfectly in this movie. The fight scenes are clearly choreographed, especially the one with Chuck Norris. Crazy how a man with only 3 words to say and a LOT of chest hair can be intimidating. Lee vs Norris was basically the 1970s alternative to Jackie vs. Urquidez in "Wheels on Meals", except this is less better. But we aren't talking about Wheels on Meals, we're reviewing Way of The Dragon! This film is the best Bruce Lee film I've watched. It might not be THAT realistic, but it ends goodly and doesn't disappoint. If you have the time or the money, watch this movie ASAP!! Rating: 10/10 |

In order to stop the terrorist attacks and also to save their own lives, the three heroes most team up once again to fight their gun-totting adversaries. ReviewThe morning I wrote this, I woke up early today so I could get in my fix on action movies. The first movie I watched was Royal Warriors, which is the sequel to Yes, Madam! The movie met my exceptions. Sure the movie is now missing Carrie, Aspirin (Mang Hoi who portrayed Aspirin directed the action choreography in this movie and won a Hong Kong Film Award for it.) & Strepsil, now bringing a less humourous feeling to the movie. But all the action and scenes with Micheal Wong make up for it! This movie is in particular one of the greatest Michelle Yeoh movies ever. If you have an old copy lying around, you need to pop it in your PS3 and watch it immediately. I recommend watching the film for the shootout and the final fight. You can feel the anger in the three main characters during these two scenes. The acting is natural and great! Rating: 9.5/10 |

Directed byHarald Zwart Screenplay by Christopher Murphey Story by Robert Mark Kamen Produced by Jerry Weintraub Will Smith Jada Pinkett Smith James Lassiter Ken Stovitz Starring Jaden Smith Jackie Chan Taraji P. Henson Cinematography Roger Pratt Edited by Joel Negron Music by James Horner Production companies Columbia Pictures China Film Group Overbrook Entertainment JW Productions Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing Release date (Australia): July 8, 2010 Synopsis When Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) and his mother (Taraji P. Henson) move from Detroit to China, Dre feels lost in a world very different from what he knows. Bullied and beaten up by some fellow students in his school, Dre is rescued by his apartment building's handyman, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a man who is mourning Review a devastating loss. Mr. Han takes pity on Dre and agrees to teach him kung fu to defend himself. Training together, teacher and student learn to trust each other, and ultimately form a friendship that heals them both. Okay, so my opinions on this film are HIGHLY ridden by nostalgia, the first time I watched this was in 2019. I remember those days. Re-watching this movie, using Incredibox on my Dad's laptop, twirling around in the chair, the air-con on, researching Bruce Lee.. ahh. But nevertheless, it is a good movie. The Karate Kid is one of the most highly-known American action drama films ever, especially the first three films from 1984, '86, and '89. The 2010 sequel is the least discussed film.. oh.. yeah. Next Karate Kid 1994. Never mind. Anyways, the Karate Kid 2010 is a reboot starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith which is hated, but in my opinion pretty good. I think the acting in this movie is realistic and natural, and Mr Han's backstory makes the film better and there is also a lesson in the film thanks to the scenes. The direction with the music is amazing. The soundtrack makes the film feel better, unlike other films I've watched, with the soundtrack not being good enough. This is perfect. Anyways, good film. Their foe is a demented but powerful wizard who believes that if he kidnaps all the babies in China, he can build a demonic ruling class and eventually dominate the world. With everything on the line, it's up to The Heroic Trio of Shadow Fox, Mercy and Invisible Woman to rise up and stop him. ReviewSuspend your disbelief and get ready for some wondrous entertainment. Wow. This is a very unique film. With at times, some very amazing work with wires and crappy editing and weird flashbacks and CGI, this is a pretty solid foreign superhero movie. I'm pretty sure when everyone thinks of a superhero movie that wasn't produced in the United States, they think of those Bollywood films with bad acting, unrealistic scenes and bad CGI. Well, this film is nothing like that. With cringe-inducing fight scenes and a powerful soundtrack, The Heroic Trio is a film that will not dissapoint you! Maggie Cheung was introduced to the Girl with Gun sub-genre in this film and hell does she have a good performance. No joke, I was like "What the hell's Ka-Kui's girlfriend doing with a gun??" when I first saw her in the movie. But don't take my dumb joke for your final opinion, watch the film yourself! |

ReviewLet's talk about the story. The story reminds me of the 1973 classic "Enter the Dragon". But this film is nothing like that. Let's talk about the two main stars. Jackie Chan & John Cena, what a random duo. This would surely turn out to be a horrible movie, right? Well, no. Chan and Cena have some good chemistry and great lines in the bloopers and the movie. Let's talk about the action. The action is enjoyable, but really nothing special. It becomes less special when you release Jackie was 64 at the time this was filmed, so all his performances are mostly stunt doubles. This is an average run of the mill one of his movies where the idea of having him in a role is cool but the movie doesn't turn out to be that cool. The dialogue is pretty funny, I can say that. But I can ALSO say that this movie relies on the dialogue and none of the action, really. There's no cool tricks or kicking, just guns and running and random punching. I can say the film could have been a lot better but still pretty enjoyable. Rating: 5.5/10 |

Starring, written and choreographed by BRUCE LEE a ROBERT CLAUSE film Written by Michael Allin Produced by Fred Weintraub Paul Heller Raymond Chow Starring Bruce Lee John Saxon Ahna Capri Bob Wall Shih Kien Jim Kelly Cinematography Gilbert Hubbs Edited by Kurt Hirschler George Watters Peter Cheung Music by Lalo Schifrin Production companies Sequoia Pictures Concord Production Inc. Warner Bros. Distributed by Golden Harvest (Hong Kong) Warner Bros. (International) Release dates 26 July 1973 (Hong Kong) 19 August 1973 (United States) August 1973 (Australia) https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...on%20Title.png Synopsis Lee plays a martial-arts expert determined to help capture the narcotics dealer whose gang was responsible for the death of his sister. Lee enters a kung fu competition in an attempt to fight his way to the dealer's headquarters with the help of some friends. Review Bruce Lee's final film, "Enter The Dragon" was the first movie to be produced by a major Hollywood company, Warner Brothers. So other companies tried to cash in the fame such as National General Pictures, re-relasing The Big Boss as Fists Of Fury like Bryanstron Productions, which in 1974, released Way of Dragon as The Return of the Dragon. This film sure does crap on Return of the Dragon (just a joke. I love both films) or whatever you call it. Yesterday (January 25, 2023) I went to the home video shop to get some movies. They only had Enter the Dragon on Blu-Ray, resulting in my first Blu-ray. And gosh, do I love this film. If I had the chance I'd rewatch it! (I'll do it another day.) The film has some appearances from Sammo Hung (he gets to fight Bruce Lee) and Jackie Chan (he gets to get a butt-whupping by Lee) This film is so amazing I'm doubting it being made by humans. You can feel every single hit through the screen! Jim Kelly's character dies not long into the movie, but his lines feel natural, and he brings a light hearted feel to the movie, but this isn't a comedy. Just some really good action and dialogue from the actors. https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...hedragon15.jpg Not to mention the funky Lalo Schrifin soundtrack, which got 5 hundred thousand copies sold. Enter the Dragon has a soundtrack that uses a lot of bass and piano, and it has resemblance to Kevin Bassinson's score for Police Story, but this is actually way better. Shih Khen has a wonderful performance as a villian The choreography by Bruce is the best in all of his movies, and that counts Game of Death II (I've never watched Game of Death.). This film is an absolute masterpiece and you NEED to watch it. I know that whenever an actor's films is really popular like Rumble in the Bronx [Jackie Chan] and Lethal Weapon III [Joe Pesci] It turns out to be crappy. But, trust me. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Enter the Dragon is one of the best movies in the world. I don't care rather it's with piracy, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, Netflix, WATCH THE ******* FILM!! Rating: 10/10 (best. bruce lee film. EVER!!!) |

Police Story is the 1985 Hong Kong movie that people love so much that it has 2 re-edits and 4 dubs. Today we're going to be looking at one of those re-edits, the 1986 international export dub! Original version is the Japanese Bluray on the 2010 Fortune Star DVD. I figure since the credits say 2010 on the SBS on Demand version it's the right release. Export Trailer 1986 Media Asia International https://img1.blogblog.com/img/video_object.png Theatrical trailer 1985 Media Asia Hong Kong https://img1.blogblog.com/img/video_object.png The Hong Kong trailer - spoils all the big stunts but doesn't actually tell you anything about the movie. Also is way too long, a trailer should be 1 minutes & 30 seconds at max if it's in cinema. Of course, the background music "Hero Story" by Jackie Chan is completely amazing, but it's in Cantonese, and the trailer has no subtitles (this is a DVD version on the video so that's why it does) That might suck if you watched the movie and weren't from China. 7/10 VIDEO QUALITYThe USA trailer - Gives away the plot in a good, short, sweet way that is easy to understand and that doesn't spoil much at all with amazing kick-butt music by Kevin Bassington. The trailer also shows clips that will make the average viewer hella excited to watch the film. 10/10 BLU-RAY VHS So.. how is it that a VHS released 22 years before a Blu-Ray has better color quality? SCRIPT On the SBS on Demand version, the script adds a bunch of un-needed, unnatural words. The re-release also adds some unnecessary profane words like "b1tch" which actually makes Kevin sound like a jerk and it turn, makes the scenes with May more funnier. The re-dub actually has funnier dialogue, as well. I guess it's better when you understand the language. CUT / SWAPPED SCENES In turn - the re-dub script's better. The US dub has a lot of cut scenes, so I will list every cut scene here.
The Japanese version is 1 hour & 48 minutes. ADDED SCENESThe original Hong Kong version is 1 hour & 36 minutes. The export version is 1 hour and 27 minutes. 13 minutes have been cut out from the theatrical version. In the US theatrical version, a shot of Selina clicking "record" on the tape recorder is added. 1 second long, which does fix a minor minor MINOR plothole. https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...40-h360/68.jpgMUSIC The original score is composed by Lai Siu-tin, and the re-dub score is composed by Kevin Bassington. Lai-Siu Tin's score - Inspired by the main theme song, and has a lot of re-used tracks. Still a banger and is definetly worth listening too. Especially the tracks with Ondes Martinot. Bassington's score - A slap-bass synthesizer score that is incredibly 80s and satisfying to listen too. Sometimes a bit of the instruments get a little bit annoying and go on for a while though. Lai Siu Tin's score: 11/10 Bassington's score: 7/10 COVERS VHS BLU-RAY The VHS cover is more exciting and summarizes up the film on the back well. OVERALL: THE RE-DUB VHS FROM 1988 WINS!! |

Rated PG (15+) AAAAARRRGGGH. After watching the Cobra Kai series and the Jacky Chan remake, I eventually figured it was time to watch the original. Was I dazzled? No. Was I dissapointed? No. With a cliched plot that has been copied from probably over a million films, this film is tiring in terms of plot and term of action. With slow but for some reason, still painful hits, the action department of this film was a bit of a fail, just as with the emotion department. LaRusso is the victim of bullying while simultaneously a literal JERK. You really fail to feel bad for him, unlike with Jaden Smith, a wonderful actor and terrible rapper. Ralph Macchio didn't take on a dog poop music career, which is why I still have a hint of sympathy for him. He yells at his mother and his kung fu teacher, Mr. Miyagi, who looks ancient but unconvincingly still can kick butt. Huh? My god. My opinions of this films go up and down like a Ferris Wheel. I love it! Nah, it's bad. NOW I LOVE IT! And I hate it. JUST PICK ONE, ME! Yeah, I love it. Rating: 7/10 |

Rated PG (15+) Oh waa blah blah blah the Karate Kid 2 is such a bad sequel blah blah- SHUT THE HELL UP. THIS MOVIE IS A MASTERPIECE. IT IS CRIMINNALLY UNDERATED. I WILL DEFEND IT UNTIL I DIE. HELL, I MAY EVEN DEFEND IT AFTER I DIE. So, I will admit, this film and it's predecessor are two completely different ideas. They take place miles away. The first one is about a boy competing in a Kung Fu tournament to prove to his bully he's strong. And this one is about that boy traveling to Japan with his master. So of course, this film has such a different feel to it and a very unique story that's hard to follow. And I'm honestly digging it. I enjoyed every fight in this film heavily. Every action sequence, every plot twist. I watched it and I loved it. Hell, I might even watch the movie again. Get it on DVD AND Blu-Ray. Rated PG (15+) Now we're talking.. this Karate Kid is once again an All Valley tournament and takes place in the location from the first film. But is it really that good? Ehh. The fight scenes and story are pretty good, but the action department is mediocre, especially the final fight scene. Mike Barnes really should've won. Daniel would have lost if the film was realistic. The plot twist in this film was pretty predictable and it wasn't as surprising. This film introduced Terry Silver to the Cobra Kai series, the evil moron he is. Anyways, I still cannot get myself to completely hate this film, so I give it a Rating: 9/10 https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...PuPDCLhWzu.jpg |

I recently watched "Saving Private Ryan," a classic war film directed by Steven Spielberg. Set during World War II, the movie follows Captain John Miller (played by Tom Hanks) and his squad as they embark on a dangerous mission to locate and bring home Private James Ryan, whose three brothers have been killed in action. The film is known for its realistic depiction of combat and its emotional portrayal of the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families during wartime. With its gripping action sequences and poignant storytelling, "Saving Private Ryan" remains a timeless and powerful cinematic experience. Highly recommended for fans of action and war films. |
