I even liked Altman's somewhat remake "The Caine Mutiny Trial"

I think you'd like Blackboard Jungle. Richard Brooks' is not only a great director, but a great writer as well.. A good film on school issues.

Tonight has "Roman Holiday" at 9:45pm ET.. I rented it once, but didn't have the time to see it. I love Gregory Peck, it's just too late for me.

Roman Holiday is great.

I'll probably give it a shot.. I rented it before, but watched the 5 others before. I saw one film with Audrey Hepburn, didn't care for her. Must be the name "Hepburn" - but I love Gregory Peck.


Tonight, 2/16/15, at 8pm ET on TCM lies "Anatomy of a Murder" - Jimmy Stewart, Ben Gazzara - really good film on the courts.

"The Apartment" (Billy Wilder) is on TCM at 8pm ET... I'm not a big fan of Billy Wilders' comedies (though he's a top 10 director for me), but I know a lot of people love this film, or maybe never got the chance to watch it..

I just seen Caged (1950) recently, a very strong expose on the jail system in the 1950s. And done in an entertaining style. If you watch it, look at the wide camera angles that are used when she is first taken to jail. They add a sense of huge lonely spaces....I should watch that one again!

Interesting, I think I'm going to watch it. They had "I Am A Fugitive... Chain Gang" on this morning, which also great.

Btw, it's Oscar month, where every film is either an Oscar winner or nominee on Turner Classic Movies - not only the best movie channel, but the only one on cable with no commercials.

I Am A Fugitive... Chain Gang...love, love, love that film. Ohhhh! is Glenda Farell so evil in that film or what? She's said to have been the fastest talker on screen. I swear in some of her movies she can talk a mile a minute.

It's an early 1930s thing for actors to talk fast and to have them talking at the same time. I think that came about as the new 'talkies' wanted to show how full of dialogue they were.

A great women's prison style, mental institution movie is The Snake Pit (1948). It pairs will with I Am A Fugitive... Chain Gang and Caged.

The Snake Pit is one of my favorites - great mental illness film.

Depends what you want. From what I know of them, I think Secondhand Lions is worth a look, but you won't find anything special cinematically there.

I watched "Jarhead" with a bunch of people at a hostel (I prefer to watch alone so I don't miss a word) - but it was a film worth watching.

From 1:30 to 2:30pm ET today there's a program about the movies that changed cinema. I'm online (so I'm not home) and don't know the channel...

2001 A Space Odyssey coming soon at 12:45pm ET on TCM - I've been wanting to watch this for years (saw it the first time a decade ago, don't remember too much), but there's a little get-together; my brother is asking for the hand of a girl, an official "get engaged" day...

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is coming at 10 or 11pm ET tonight also on TCM

I've been watching Woody Allen films, trying to get a feel for his films, but haven't seen Annie Hall yet.

I've been wanting to see Dazed & Confused since it came out.

I think you'd love "Annie Hall" it's a great film.. I'd consider "Annie Hall" and "Manhattan" to be Woody's best.

Anyway this is the first version of Marty with Rod Steiger. It's interesting and a bit different.

It will still work if you don't have a mobile device. I think it's just supposed to make it easier for people with mobile devices. I only know about it because that's the link we use for song tournaments.

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out. I like Rod Steiger, and loved Marty that it'd be really interesting see another version, but admit I would be hesitant if it was remade now, but would probably still check it out.

I probably would not watch a modern remake. Steiger's Marty is more pensive with a restrained anger. At least that's how I seen it. Where as Borgnine played it more down trodden and powerless. I liked the Bornine version better and Marty is a great movie....The earlier Steiger version is worth a watch, though the video quality is poor.

I'm not a fan of A Beautiful Mind, either. But I know a lot of people like it, so I flagged it up. I think The Omen is boring, too, but again I put it up because I think it's worth seeing. In fact, out of all those films, the only one I think is good and liked is Educating Rita. :D

The Day After was a US telemovie, but it did have a theatrical release outside of North America in 1984. Its aim was to demonstrate the effects of a nuclear war on a US town.

Love The Talented Mr. Ripley, despite the presence of Gwyneth Paltrow.

Yeah, I think it's her best performance (not that I've seen too much of her)... You really feel her emotions, and she is almost as troubled; she's troubled. And by singling out one boy she has an emotional tie with, The doctor (Lancaster) says the other kids feel that neglect.

Maybe she identifies with him, neglect, since she goes against the rules by contacting his parents. In the beginning, she has no family, friends, a drifter.

I think Lancaster was really good as well.
