Seen all three but I don't remember Critters or Enemy At The Gate much. Virgin Sucides was okay for me, with Dunst being the best aspect by far.

Nice layout by the way. I want to come up with something nice for my next 100, which I will probably do next year.

Re: The Sci-Fi Slob's Top 250 Greatest Films

Seen Enemy at the Gates and Critters, haven't seen Virgin Suicides. EatG was pretty good, it reminded me of Saving Private Ryan in where it starts with a historical battle then afterwards goes into a more fictional storyline. The Stalingrad scene was really well done.

Critters was a movie I also watched when I was younger, I remember seeing the first 3 but I have trouble differentiating which scenes are from which film.

Also props for the layout, I would like to do one on mine, but unfortunately I don't really know how. :(

honeykid 03-30-15 01:28 PM

Re: The Sci-Fi Slob's Top 250 Greatest Films

Three films I can get onboard with, though I seem to remember Critters as feeling a little slow the last time I saw it. I've only seen Enemy At The Gate and The Virgin Suicides once, but I remember liking both, especially the latter, which I remember creating a great atmoshpere.

Good start, SFS. It's nice to have you back around the place again. :)

The Virgin Suicides seems like a total honeykid film, actually.

I haven't seen any of the first three movies, but out of curiosity, was Critters the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio?

I was going to say I liked Enemy at the Gates until I realized I was confusing it with Behind Enemy Lines. I haven't seen Enemy at the Gates.*

I haven't seen The Virgin Suicides either, but I've always been interested in it.

I like Critters and What Lies Beneath.

I thought The Bone Collector was alright.*

I liked the premise of Brick, but I didn't like the movie.

I don't know if I've seen Kelly Heroes or not. I've certainly seen bits of it, 20 minutes here, half and hour there, but I don't know if I've ever sat and watched it all from start to finish. Not seen the other two and no real interest, either.

Re: The Sci-Fi Slob's Top 250 Greatest Films

Virgin Suicides was fairly decent, same with Bone Collector. Bone Collector isn't great but it is a fun watch.

Captain Spaulding 03-31-15 06:17 PM

Re: The Sci-Fi Slob's Top 250 Greatest Films

I don't think I've seen Enemy at the Gates, but it looks and sounds like so many other films, plus the generic title, makes me unsure if I have or not.

Critters is fun. Haven't seen it in ages.

Not a fan of Sofia Coppola, but if forced to watch one of her movies again, I'd go with The Virgin Suicides.

I admired what Brick was going for, but it didn't really work for me.

Much like Enemy at the Gates, The Bone Collector looks and sounds like so many other films that I'm unsure if I've seen it or not. Pretty sure I have, though. Maybe.

I always get Kelly's Heroes and The Dirty Dozen confused.

Never seen Rumble in the Bronx. Most of the Jackie Chan movies I've seen have been his action-comedies (Rush Hour, Shanghai Noon, etc.). I'd like to go back and watch his martial-arts movies at some point.

I've seen The Negotiator, but nothing about it stuck out to me.

Anyways, interesting start to the list. I'm really digging the format, if not the films.

I watched Orphan for the first time the other night and actually enjoyed it. It's not a movie I'd place in my top favourites, but it was a decent enough horror flick. I sort of scene the ending coming but it's was still quite scary.

Orphan really surprised me. Much better than I expected it to be. I know some people hate the twist, but I dug it.

The Ruins had some very impressive gore, but overall I thought the movie pretty much sucked.

Not seen Outland, but it sounds fun. Not seen Triangle, either, although I've heard good things. Hopefully the highly praised twist doesn't get spoiled for me before I get a chance to watch it.

I haven't seen The Faculty in many, many years, but I remember enjoying it.

Re: The Sci-Fi Slob's Top 250 Greatest Films

Dead End I've wanted to see for the last couple of years simply because of Ray Wise. I don't remember Prince Of Darkness being any good at all. Is if fun good for you or do you think it's good? I've not seen it since I hired it back in the 80's and watched it just that once. I literally have no memory of watching it and just the feeling that it was crap. Strangely, I remember renting it because I was excited to see it. :D I liked A History Of Violence and should give it another watch. I didn't like it as much as many others here did, though I still liked it more than Eastern Promises.

A History of Violence is a relly great movie.

JayDee 04-11-15 10:37 PM

Now this list appears to be more up my street; I'm not envisaging too much art house popping up.

Favourite film so far, and by a distance, is The Faculty. I'm one of those people on here who really loves it. Not sure I can say why exactly I love it so much but have done ever since the first time I saw it. It's got one of the most incredible and unique casts I've ever seen. I also really like Brick, Enemy at the Gates, Rumble in the Bronx and The Negotiator. There were so many great action films and thrillers in the 90s that the sheer number means some are always going to get forgotten and overlooked, and I think The Negotiator is certainly one of them. Cracking film.

Also quite a few films I fancy seeing at some point. Virgin Suicides and History of Violence I've wanted to watch for a while. Bone Collector is just the kind of fun thriller I like so think I'd enjoy it. And I'd like to see Prince of Darkness one day just because I like/love a great many of John Carpenter's films

Aside from A History of Violence, which I liked a lot, I can't comment much on the actual films here. Great layout though, as usual. It's quite similar to what I have in mind for the 60s list :)

Not seen Dead End or Prince of Darkness.

A History of Violence is a movie I need to revisit. I liked it and I thought the performances in it were very strong, but I'm kinda like cricket in the sense that I felt that the film contained many elements that should make me love it, yet I felt kinda . . . underwhelmed.

Galaxy Quest is a lot of fun and an example of a parody done right. I haven't seen Breakdown since I was ten years old, but I liked it back then. Side Effects was decent.

The Sci-Fi Slob 05-08-15 10:40 AM

cricket 05-09-15 09:27 AM

Nice, I've seen all of the last 9 entries.

I'm a big Kill List fan; it would make my top 50. I think it's tense and unique, and one of those rare movies that stays in your head. It's certainly not for everyone but I think it's brilliant.

I love Chopper too; Eric Bana is absolutely brilliant in it.

I love Panic Room-an absolute blast.

The Descent is certainly one of the best modern horror movies.

There's Something About Mary is certainly one of the best modern comedies.

I like Dale and Tucker just fine, but don't get the huge love it gets.

It's been said a million times, but f**k High Tension. The worst ending I've ever seen ruined a very good horror movie.

I liked Vampires and Scream, but need to see them again.
