5. Tropic Thunder (2008)
6. Born On The Fourth Of July (1989)
7. Top Gun (1986)
8. The Last Samurai (2003)
9. Risky Business (1983)

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

For me it is Rain Man and Collateral. I haven't seen all of Jerry McGuire so I can't give my thoughts on that one.

Endless Bliss 06-30-11 11:48 AM

in collateral i think!

Godoggo 06-30-11 12:10 PM

It's Rain Man for sure. I think Cruise is a smart actor in that he takes roles that work for him.

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

For me, it's a tie between "Jerry Maguire" and "Collateral"

Deadite 06-30-11 03:16 PM

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

Probably Magnolia. But I also thought he was great as Lestat.

wheresatari 06-30-11 03:34 PM

collateral, the last samurai, top gun. jerry mcguire(sp?) is also good.

Interview With the Vampire.

I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise. He is certainly not who I would have pictured as Lestat from reading the books, but he owned this role completely. I think he's better in blockbuster fodder than when he actually tries to act.

Runners up probably Rain Man and Eyes Wide Shut.

I was almost going to say Legend, but I really need to watch it first and see if I like it as much as I remember liking it.

Damn, I forgot about "The Color of Money" - great flick

Godoggo 06-30-11 05:11 PM

I forgot about Vanilla Sky. That would be up there right after Rain Man.

wheresatari 06-30-11 05:46 PM

Toss-up between Jerry Maguire and A Few Good Men.

Let me just say that I think his "cameo" or supporting part in Tropic Thunder is one of the most overrated parts in any movie, ever.

Austin Powers in Goldmember, and I have high hopes for the new Mission Impossible, I just watched the trailer today and it has a good cast of actors,,, so here's hoping.

Really? I thought he was the best thing about Tropic Thunder. Anything specific about his part that you didn't like?

honeykid 07-03-11 08:18 PM

If he's anything like me, which he's not, it'll be the very fact it existed. Much like the film, actually. :D

iluv2viddyfilms 07-03-11 09:05 PM

Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia are both great. I'm a fan of his and enjoy watches him on screen, Collateral is good and he has some great moments in Born on the Fourth of July, even if it is a heavy-handed message film.

Yoda 07-03-11 10:09 PM

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

Aye. He's great in Magnolia and I really dig him in the first and third Mission: Impossible. I think people are liable to forget, with all his general weirdness, that he's pretty flippin' talented and awfully good in the right roles.

I just didn't think it was oscar worthy? What exactly made it oscar worthy?

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

I'm probably one of the few who watched Knight and Day, but Cruise basically carries the film by being nonchalant and almost making fun of his screen persona.

iluv2viddyfilms 07-04-11 12:12 AM

Knight and Day I didn't watch in theaters... most stuff I don't, but I'd give it a chance if on Netflix. Does it have the Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibe going on?

Knight and Day is more comedic than Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I think.

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

I'd say, for sure, it's Mr. and Mrs. Smith II without the marriage counsellor.

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

i got to give it to the guy. he gives his heart and soul to all of his performances.

now i'm not the kind of movie fan that gives a damn about what they do outside of the movies. so all these couch jumping scientology thing, i couldn't care less. all i know is that he is a good actor and you see the amount of respect he gives to his audience by giving his all on all his movies.

he makes it a point to give something new in his projects, be it the characterization, a scene, a stunt, the story itself, etc.

my favorite tom cruise movie is magnolia, rain man, tropic thunder and born on the fourth

Close between Rain Man and Jerry Macguire. I liked them both a lot.

Miss Vicky 08-14-11 10:03 PM

The Last Samurai

I also liked him a lot in Far And Away, Rain Man, Interview With The Vampire, and Tropic Thunder.

Rain Man is, in my opinion, one of his best performances.

I vote for Rain Man as well-- solid performance

True...especially the last scenes...And i like him in Jerry Maguire too..

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

I'd probably say my favorite of his performances is Rain Man. He's not one of my favorites, but his movies are good. Worst performance is easily in Valkyrie - I couldn't get through the movie the characters were so loathsome.

Note to film-makers: If you've a character named Wolfgang, have his fellow Germans pronounce his name "Volf-Gank", not "wolf-gang" - American and German pronunciation differs immensely.

Beau21 09-15-11 11:19 PM

I'm into Top Gun and Rain man :)

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

Only Valkyrie and the last samurai I can say.

gandalf26 09-29-11 06:29 AM

Vincent in Collateral by far.

He is very good in Rainman too.

TylerDurden99 04-07-13 07:54 AM

Still my favourite actor of all time. Even when the movie is a piece of crap, he always gives 110% to every role and has delivered more than a handful of powerhouse performances. His work ranked...

Re: Favourite Tom Cruise Performance?

Rain Man-The entire movie revolved around him.

Jerry McGuire-Even Tom Hanks couldn't do that role better than him

Top Gun-He was born to play Maverick

Mission Impossible-Mission Impossible and Pirates are the only franchises that ran on star power of their franchises. The others are superhero movies or story book interpretations

Last Samurai-Fantastic performance

Minority Report-Unbelievable
