so great.
so WEIRD.
this morning I thought i replied to this post already! I remember typing out that I'm surprised to see a new season. that, sadly, i only made it through two or three episodes of s3 before I forgot about it. that i had considered just starting over with s1 and burning through them all back to back hoping that it was the gap between seasons that pulled me out. i vaguely remember doing that a year or so back, or thinking i at least started it? now, i have memory of a post i never made and i cannot make sense of this world anymore. it doesn't post like anything, to me.

i kinda love the yin&julian4L tho.

Re: Westworld: Season 4

(sigh) I'm at a point with this series where, watching this trailer, I kept thinking, "Wait, is HE a host? What about her? I can't remember who's what anymore!"

But I like ynwtf's idea of plowing through the first three seasons back to back, just to see if something sticks this time (past season 1 or 2, at least). I might put the first seasons on in the background as I'm working this week, just to do a refresher. If I survive, that is.

ynwtf 06-25-22 01:17 PM

Tomorrow is the premiere and again i completely forgot about it. I just saw a trailer for it and thought, "wow. I never finished 3" and quickly came here to post the date only to find that not only has Yoda already done that, but that i replied to it.

Ugh. I'm losing it.

So, the premiere is tonight but I really feel like I need to rewatch at least half of season 3. Maybe all of it. So now that's on my to-do list for a rewatch. Before I tackle the season 4 premiere.

Yeah this is very much a "find a good recap on YouTube" situation.

I have to make it through s3 before even a recap. but i think, at this point, i still need to rewatch it all. that won't be for a good while, unfortunately.

Lots of recaps available: season 3 or seasons 1-3:

This one seems the best of the first three full seasons. It actually helped me keep things straight, too:

Watched the season 4 premiere last night. I have some thoughts--some are probably obvious--but I'll wait till a few others watch the episode.

Re: Westworld: Season 4

Jeez, I recall when this was one of the shows I just couldn't wait to dissect and talk about on MoFo, and this season rolls around I had pretty much forgotten the show existed, It doesn't help that I don't have HBO anymore.

Anyway, I will have to check out the recap, as I took a stab at watching the final episode of season 3 and after about 15 minutes, decided I didn't have a clue what was going on, and I would need a full recap! I own all the other seasons, i so I have access to those, also. I will have to invade a friend to watch the new ones!

TONGO 06-29-22 03:58 PM

I thought it was flat crap. They should have stopped it at season one, or two at the most.

And yet, you're still watching Raised By Wolves. :D :D

Oh that's a low blow :bawling: Kicking a show when it's down.

Westworld is cashing in. Raised By Wolves has a story to tell. That is all.

When your song is known as something else to an entire generation.

Had this same experience with NIN and Westside Connection yesterday 👀

And here I thought the new posts in this thread might actually be about the SHOW.

Silly me. :D

Re: Westworld: Season 4

(sigh) I'm still the only one watching this? Without spoilers, as we're now four episodes in, let me just say this: I find this show's ability to tell the story in a discombobulated, non-linear way to be downright annoying. Last night's episode was nearly the last straw. I knew there were multiple timelines being shown, with unannounced switches every few minutes, but as the episode ended, I realized why this bothers me with this particular show (especially in more recent seasons): It doesn't HAVE to be told this way. I feel as if the show is using this tactic merely to give us a false sense of "surprise endings" that are ONLY surprises because we're being jolted back and forth.

I don't see any other good reason to be telling this part of the story with so many switches in the timeline, except to throw us off and make us THINK they're telling a more densely interwoven story. It's not. It's just trying too hard.

Having said THAT, I saw that twist coming. And I have a theory about the Chrissy character, but won't say it here until SOMEONE else starts watching this season with me! :D

Avoiding content spoilers, but I saw Au's initial question in her last post.

Still haven't done my recap homework or started this season yet. Looking like maybe it's not worth the effort?

Oddly, I like this season way better than the hot mess of season 3. Watch a recap, then dive into at least one episode of season 4. I do have some theories, and at least this season feels more like they have a plan. Season 3 felt like they had no clue what they were doing or aiming for.

Yea, I need to get to it! I will dig up a recap asap...

Re: Westworld: Season 4

I watch this. From my perspective, I thought season 1 was wonderful, and it featured a very compelling performance from Anthony Hopkins. It was very original, which is a rare quality in mainstream TV programming today. However, when Anthony Hopkins left the show as a series regular at the end of Season 1, Westworld for me became much less compelling. Every season after the first season has failed to match the quality of the first season, and its gotten steadily and progressively less enjoyable to watch. In particular, the show has become far too convoluted and confusing. Like other shows that become popular and develop a large following, especially in this genre, the creators have, in my opinion, tried to extend the story in too many directions and have sought to do far too much with the show, which has made it very difficult to understand the events that are being depicted, or their purpose. Westworld worked really well when it was a self-contained story, but since they left the park, it has transformed itself into a very different kind of show, and has lost the essence of what previously made it great. I would have liked to have seen it renewed for Season 5, because it was to be the last season, and that would have given the creators the opportunity to wrap up the story more completely, but I understand why it was cancelled, given that the essence of the story has gotten lost, viewership numbers have seriously declined, and it was such an expensive show to produce. What does everyone else think of Westworld and how it has evolved over time?
