Super Casual 2016 NFL pick'em league

The season is almost upon us and I am looking for a little competition, minus the legwork required for fantasy football.

What I am planning is a pick'em league. Each week, every player will choose X number of teams that they think will win their game that week. To keep it interesting, no team can be used in consecutive weeks. I still have more details to hammer out, but that is the general idea.

If all goes as planned, this will go live Wednesday before the Thursday night game. Please share any ideas or questions.

Of course. I've always known people that ran sheets and this is the next best thing, minus the gambling. It will be fun for me to keep up with and make stuff for posts.

I don't want the work for fantasy and this is easy enough that everyone has a chance to win. Plus it will be a good watercooler thread for the season.

If there is enough interest, there may be more to it.

Spitballin'...

1 point per win. Pick all five winners and get 1 bonus point.

Can I do my pick 5 for Week 1 now? Are we able to change it up till gameday?

cricket 09-02-16 12:39 PM

Straight up or by the spread?

Both are good, although if it's straight up, most people will just pick the biggest favorites.

cricket 09-02-16 12:40 PM

Ah but the no team in consecutive weeks fixes that:)

Just wait until next week. In order to keep it simple, just one set of picks per week. Despite initial thoughts I had, I will probably set the deadline before kickoff of the Thursday night game.

I'm in. Just a thought, we could do a Blu-ray each for the winner. Not a lot of cash and gives some incentive.

I would encourage anyone interested to start thinking of a team name and a logo you would like to use. I think I am leaning towards my Rocket League mascot. :D

Only 5 games per week, but you cant pick the same teams to win the next week.

cricket 09-03-16 10:48 PM

When do we have to get our picks in by each week? Can it be at the last minute as long as it's before kickoff of the games we're choosing?

Re: Super Casual 2016 NFL pick'em league

I would say by wed since we have the whole thursday night games on the NFL network. But I would say only if your picking the winner of the thursday night game. If your picking sunday games and monday night then Friday should do it.

Are we making picks in this thread?

I was wondering that or would it be more like the countdowns but then figure could just post. I mean unless people tend too copy others picks which i doubt. I think weekly picks isnt as secretive as our precious countdowns so i just flipped a coin and just posted my picks.

Wouldn't anytime before kickoff of the games we pick be fine? It's not like we can fudge the time of our posts.

I sent my picks. Its just the one team we list in a game, total of 5, right?

Im worried Davonta Freeman and Jamaal Charles are gonna have too much of their workload lightened for them. Hes taken so few snaps in practice, theyre talking like Charles is the RB2 week 1

doubledenim 09-04-16 01:00 AM

Had an out and about Sat, first time seeing this today.

This isn't going to be the official thread. What rules there will be, haven't been done up yet.

I can say picks need to be in before kickoff on Thursday. I was gonna say otherwise, but this will be plain and simple.

For transparency, we will be making picks in the thread so all can see.

I originally wanted to say that you could post after Thursday night, but one set time for picks will be easier to manage.

If you are worried about someone covering your picks, you can wait and post as late as possible.

I can be daft at times, so the public picks will help you guys correct any errors that may occur on my part.

I want to encourage everyone to choose an image for their team logo. It can be a team logo, your 3rd grade yearbook photo or any random image. I will be making a page that will use them for the standings and record keeping. If you can't find an image, tell me and I will look for one or I will pick one out for you.

Guys I gotta question and need your opinion - You think I should play Tavon Austin week 1 or Julian Edelman still, even though Bradys gone?

I'm thinking Edelman won't be featured much until Brady is back. He'll get his receptions, but I don't think many yards or TD's. I think the Pats will be featuring the TE's and RB's at first. There's also lingering questions about his health.

Hopefully the green one will play.

I'm going live with the game thread.

We can shut this thread down. I will transfer any thing that needs to be.
