The Breaking Point
Harry Morgan is a desperate man who captains a fishing boat. when his latest tourist skips out on the bill, he’s forced to take a job smuggling several Chinese immigrants to the US. When it goes awry, things start to heat up. The second adaptation of To Have and Have Not, the film can’t decide if it’s a drama or a film noir. It spends too much time on Morgan’s family and his home life, as well as his financial difficulties that drive him to making further deals. About the only thing good about this movie are the last 20 minutes, and of course Patricia Neal, whose character is barely given the attention she deserves in this film. |

Good. It ended up being a Billy Wilder movie anyway, and as I consider him the king of noir I'm actually very happy with this. |
