Well I blew out a tire on the way to work. This is my second blow out in 31 days. The first one was on New Year's Eve at 4:30 PM. No one wanted to know me. I had to do a lot of calling to find someone open. This time it blew out across the street from a tire store. So things are improving!:)

It's so annoying when movies are available to buy or rent in other countries, but not mine. I'm willing to pay to rent or buy the movie from a legit source and even pay the exchange rate on the listed price, but they won't accept my payment method because it is a Canadian credit card. The world has gotten smaller in a lot of ways with technology, yet so many films are not available to purchase or rent in some countries. If they want to make money and reduce piracy, they need to release more movies all over the world, including Canada. It is not like we are a tiny country in the middle of nowhere! Take my money!

Re: Things that annoy you...

I have two youngsters under the age of ten and am divorced and disabled and unemployed so I'm stop-gapping with my parents for now, and it mostly works. Except when everyone is tired and I'm the only one who isn't cranky. I'm trying to teach my kiddos not to get angry at things and work out problems and express their grievances calmly. It's really hard for me to do that when my parents snap at them all of the time. My mom tries to rip things out of the younger one's hands, she yells at the older one. My dad yells at them both and says some really stupid shit to them. Then when I'm trying to instruct the children calmly, their grandparents go on attack mode and take control without needing to do so.

The problem is I can't talk to my parents. They don't listen and they are very rigid in how they do things. I figured out why my method of parenting used to be losing my temper; it was the only one way I could get my parents to listen. It took a verbal assault for them to do anything differently, and then I got married to someone who already had two kids, and all she and her mom did was scream and yell at the two kids, so I thought that's what you do, and then wife and MIL would yell at me, so I was confused. Like ex-now-MIL would scream her head off at now-ex-wife's first two kids, and then I'd raise my voice and she'd scream at me.

I'm writing it down so hopefully I don't forget when I have my next two appointments that I can come back and look at my prose, and bring it with me to my appointments. Does it make sense to anyone to yell at someone angrily to stop yelling in anger?

No. Yelling at someone who's yelling will just make them yell louder.
You have to try to stay calm. If you stay calm, it's harder for them to continue yelling at you.

Everyone is different so it's not a guarantee, but I've done this most of my life when someone is yelling, and it usually works to calm them down.

That's how I approach it. Lately I've been keeping eivenkeeled when dealing with the children when they're being difficult. Then my parents are pissed off. Sometimes my parents just go to bed and "make" me (like I was trying to do in the first place) put them to bed. It takes all of five minutes because I don't raise my voice and I don't scold. I simply tell the kiddos it's time for bed. We do our checklist, and then they're in bed.

I get it though; when energies are high it's easier to match the high energy than force a low energy. At the same time that is something I have learned how to do. It takes effort at first. Now it's hard for me to get angry. I'm okay with that. Being angry sucks.

It sounds like you're already doing it right. There's not much more you can do, so hopefully it will work out better as time goes on.

Good luck.

I’m a bit confused. Are you talking about the different regions? Because I can’t watch any British movies without using a region-free dvd player. I’ve never heard of a credit card being denied from another country.

I’m referring to digital purchases of movies, not dvds or blu rays. Amazon prime store has different digital movies available for purchase in different regions. I tried to buy a digital copy of a movie from the UK store but they said my payment method was not accepted because it has a Canadian billing address on it.

Lots of rain today. Got to work to find a big puddle of water on the lobby floor. Had to clean it up and now have a bucket there to catch the water. This has been happening every time we get a bad storm for a few years now. We keep telling the landlord and they keep doing jack shit about it.

Edit: Another leak started in the lobby, so now we have two buckets catching the water.

Re: Things that annoy you...

I have a real aversion to constant anger. Actually I kind of have an aversion to anger of any length of time nowadays. Now someone I know is dealing with her anger issues in the worst way; my ex-wife's mom has been in and out of the hospital for a couple years because her health has gone to pots after being so angry all of the time. She complains of exhaustion and chest pain and disorientation and breathing issues and severe headaches, and all sorts of things that happen when you're angry all of the time that I don't remember at the moment.

I used to get migraines about twice a week when I was married, and now I get them once a month, if that, because the angry stress is gone. Unfortunately my dad gets angry a lot too. He's pissed tonight for some reason and it's really irritating. After being an angry person myself, seeing things without fury is so much more pleasing. It doesn't mean I'm always happy. I am, however, rarely angry.

I'm pretty sure kids hide things when the person in charge gets pissed when the child does something uncouth. My ex's oldest has medical issues, and his grandmother always got pissed at him for it, so he's spent like 15 years lying about it because he doesn't want to get in trouble for it. Now my youngest has a medical issue, and he denies it because he doesn't want people yelling at him. I won't yell at him for it. My parents sure enjoy doing it though. It's so irritating.

Another part that sucks is I have to come here to tell anyone immediately about the issue. I have professional people in place and I talk to them in detail when I see them. It'd just be nice to actually have someone I know I could talk to about these things in a quicker pace.

Oh yes. Talk about a one-trick schtick! That guy got rich & famous (for a while anyway) chanting the same set of words over and over.

(Back then people thought it was hilarious for some reason. I may have found it amusing the first couple times, but after that I was like... "not Johnson again.")

I looked the guy up - his name was Bill Saluga. He died in 2023 at age 86.

Saluga's shtick as the character "Johnson" would be, when someone would refer to him as "Mr. Johnson" or by the common generic nickname "Johnson," to exaggeratedly feign offense and list off all permutations of the name Raymond J. Johnson Jr. and nicknames thereof that do not mention the word "Johnson:"

"NOOO!!! You don't have to call me Johnson! My name is Raymond J. Johnson Jr. Now you can call me Ray, or you can call me J, or you can call me Johnny, or you can call me Sonny, or you can call me Junie, or you can call me Junior; now you can call me Ray J, or you can call me RJ, or you can call me RJJ, or you can call me RJJ Jr. . . but you doesn't hasta call me Johnson!"

Saluga would then smugly turn away and begin puffing on his cigar.[2][3] Saluga's routine received more widespread attention in the late 1970s after being used in a series of commercials for Miller Lite beer, and subsequently, in the early 1980s for Anheuser-Busch Natural Light beer. Saluga appeared alongside comedian/pitchman Norm Crosby echoing (in a roundabout way) Norm's advice to unknowing customers on how to more easily order the lengthily-named beer: "Well, y'doesn't hasta call it Anheuser Busch Natural Light Beer, and y'doesn't hasta call it 'Busch Natural.' Just say 'Natural!'" Saluga then later launches into the "You can call me Ray" routine after Crosby warns not to ask Johnson his name.[4]

When people refer to a senior citizen (such as myself) as "young man" or "young lady." I don't get angry about it as the person imagines they are paying the senior a compliment. It is not. It's dumb and it sounds dumb. Now if some says I don't look my age, that's fine. Just don't call me "young man."

Miss Vicky 02-11-25 06:20 PM

Right now, Sam's Club pharmacy.

This morning they faxed over an authorization request to refill medication for a pet that hasn't been seen here in years. I marked the box to deny the authorization, wrote the reason for the denial, and faxed it back. A few minutes later, they faxed a second request for the same thing. I again marked the denial box, wrote the reason, wrote the word "NO" across it in Sharpie, and faxed it back again. Maybe an hour later, we received a third fax for the same prescription. This time I called the pharmacy and spoke directly with the pharmacy technician to again deny the prescription.

Guess what we received this afternoon? Yep, a fourth request for the very same prescription. I called again and spoke with a different pharmacy tech. I'm about to lose my shit if we get a fifth request.

Why do some drivers drive before dawn with no lights on their vehicle? It’s so bizarre & dangerous.

Miss Vicky 02-13-25 08:10 PM

So the microchip company that we've been using for years suddenly shut down recently and now their database is just gone. This is a HUGE problem for anyone whose pets got these chips because now the database is gone too and until/unless the pet owners register their pets' chips elsewhere, the pets might as well not be chipped at all because there's no way to trace the chip back to the owner.

So now I'm having to go through and try to contact all of our clients that have purchased these chips and let them know about the situation. What a nightmare.

I read about the microchip company shutting down. It's a shame that they didn't sell their database to another company so that the chips would still work.

Fortunately, people can register their SaveThisLife chips with other databases. But of course that means letting them know what has happened and where to go. We've been advising our clients to register with the American Animal Hospital Association's database at https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/

Well, I say "we" but really it's just me. Our staff is tiny so it's fallen on me alone to try to go through and email/mail people notices one by one, on top of everything else I have to do.

Well they already got their money from selling the chip. Actually providing a service is work and expense. That’s sadly the reason they folded and couldn’t find a buyer for the company and its info.

School zones: Slowing from 45 mph to 20 for 2 blocks is just a waste of time.

Ice cream trucks: Do they have to use the same song?

Smart watches: Do we really need to see 18 message alerts before we see the time?

Gas stations: Why does the price change everytime the wind blows?

I know these are annoying, but some of them have good reasons...

The first is obvious: safety. This is a good, effective and necessary law.
The reason most ice cream trucks play the same song is one of marketing: just like with any product jingle, they're conditioning the kids to recognize that it's time to pester their parents.
Don't own a smart watch - but yeah, sounds stupid and annoying.
Gas prices fluctuate based on the ever-changing market... it's complicated.

Reminds me of a horror movie where the mother bought dog medicine in bulk to give to her teenage daughter to limit movement in her legs and make her believe she was disabled. That dog was never seen at the pharmacy, either.

Ah, remembered it now: it’s called Run with Sarah Paulson.

We have a crazy dog next door that barks and scratches at the window every time anyone walks past. The running joke around here is that we're all waiting for him to break the window and come flying through it one day, (but the co-op recently had new windows installed and they're very strong).

Fortunately he's usually quiet at night.

Do you have any noise laws where you live?

Around here, we have noise laws so if anyone sets off fireworks (or does anything else that's too loud) after 10 PM, we can call the police and they'll make them stop.

Where I am it's against the law to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am except at certain times like New Years.

I don't really think the police would be that bothered if someone called them that night to be honest...

I don't know if it's where we live but the council and police are absolute rubbish in my area.

I just got bitched at by a client who I had emailed about her dog's microchip. Apparently we should have just registered the chip with a new database for her.

Yeah, no.

1) Chip registry is the owner's responsibility. The owner knows what their own contact information is. Most registries will also ask for an emergency contact if the owner cannot be reached. We sure as hell don't know everyone's emergency contacts.

2) We sold those chips for 5 years. I have many, many clients I have to contact about this in addition to my day-to-day duties, so to go through the trouble of registering information for people? Ain't nobody got time for that!

3) We have no way of knowing if the addresses, phone numbers, etc that we have on file for people are even still current. Some of them definitely aren't. Hell we don't even know if the pets that got the microchips are even still alive. I called one client the other day because we didn't have an email for them and they'd moved to Hawaii so I knew we didn't have the right address, only to find out that the dog had recently died. So that was fun.

People are so damned entitled.

I'll bet they hear "microchip" and they just sort of lazily think digital/cloud-based/whatever. They associate microchips with things being automatic.

Our staffing situation. Last year we had several employees leave in a short span of time, for different reasons. In August, we hired three employees to replace them. All of them are terrible. There is almost never a day when we have a full staff because they constantly call out or insist that they're sick or have a family emergency or whatever and go home early. When they do show up for work, they're ALWAYS late - sometimes by several hours. They're not picking up on tasks very well, partly because they're gone so frequently and partly because they're so busy chit chatting with each other. It's infuriating but the boss never fires anyone ever so we're just stuck picking up the slack.

Well the boss finally allowed the manager to post a job listing on Indeed - and one of the applicants is a former employee who worked there for 5 years. She is knowledgeable, experienced, and far more reliable than any of the new hires and she already has a rapport with the manager and with me. But because she would occasionally butt heads with the boss, he doesn't want to rehire her. What an idiot.

I seem to have gotten a box of defective microwave popcorn. I bought an 18 count and the first few bags were fine but I just had the second one in a row that was improperly sealed and spilled popcorn and oil all over my microwave.

It’s against the law to let a dog bark continuously like you describe. It would drive me totally nuts. Call animal control & let them deal with it if possible.

Does the dog not get taken for walks or is he alone most of the time & has separation anxiety?

I hate when the TV channels put a movie on, and edit most of it out because the time it's being shown isn't suitable.
Either play it at a later time, play the movie you've advertised IN FULL, or don't show it at all.
If I advertised I was selling a car... and someone showed up to collect... and all I had was a chassis and a set of tyres, they'd be a bit annoyed.

Another thing, is online services offering "box-sets".
Example: "You can get the full box-set of Peaky Blinders on our streaming service"
If it doesn't come in a box, as a physical thing you can actually hold, then it's not a box-set.
It's an entire series, streamed digitally to your laptop... no different than using YouTube.
I'm quoting this from 2020 because it still annoys me.
Channel 4 in the UK which also owns E4 and More4, has been doing it a lot recently with "stream the entire box-set online" crap.

And... they showed Young Guns II a couple times over the past few weeks at 7pm to 9pm slot.
Considering the movie is only 1 hr 20... and because it was 7pm, they'd edited out, and I'm not exaggerating, 45 minutes of the movie because it's not suitable to be shown at 7pm on a Sunday... they basically had 35 minutes of movie in a 2 hour slot.

What I find annoying is when I order a blu-ray or DVD from Amazon and instead of getting my order delivered to me, I get an empty envelope instead.

Does this happen very often? If so, contact USPS about postal theft. I doubt Amazon is sending empty envelopes instead of DVDs.

It only happened once. Yesterday. It was an Amazon delivery driver. Not the post office. I reordered. I should get it today. Very disappointed. But I contacted Amazon which was a pain. They don't make it easy. They're refunding my purchase for the missing movie.

I've not had that happened BUT Amazon is horrible about proper shipping protection for their DVDS/Blu Rays. I bought a set of Star Trek movies with the original cast & next gen cast. Amazon shipped it in a plastic mailer envelope and the storage case was cracked. That's happened to me a number of times. So I had to go through the process of returning, reordering and crossing my fingers that the next Blu Ray set wouldn't be broke.

I've ordered movie soundtracks with small cracked cases. Not too bad. I ordered a blu-ray not long ago and the case wouldn't snap shut. Fortunately for me it's easy to return stuff at the local Kohl's store. No box or shipping label needed. I just hand them the blu-ray in its cracked case and show them a qr code on my phone. Doesn't cost a thing. Last year I ordered the unrated version of Halloween II twice and each time it turned out to be the regular R version. I returned them and I bought it used on bluray and it turned out right.

I return Amazon orders at our local Kohl's too. That makes me think that I got to do another return.

Kohl's recently announced that they're closing a bunch of stores, and several articles have said that they're not expected to be around much longer.

Whole Foods Market stores also accept Amazon returns at no charge, no packing up the item or shipping label needed. The same as Kohl's. Just hand them the item and show them the QR code.

Looks like they're only closing 27 stores. Besides, you can always return stuff under the same terms at UPS and Staples.

Thanks for the info. I don't buy a lot from Amazon, and I've only returned something once, (at Whole Foods), but it's good to know that UPS and Staples are options too.

ha. that and when people start texting during a theater screening. a while back, some 30-something year old guy was sitting in the last row of the first section and started texting. his mobile screen was in day mode and NOT auto-dimming, so it was bright white. dude kept checking texts every 5-10 minutes. I finally shouted, "DAMN that's bright!"

he jumped completely unaware that he was flashing back to everyone else in the audience. he pocketed the phone and eventually left.
