Nice list, Gideon! I think my favorite surprise (and delight) is the inclusion of Szell from Marathon Man. Laurence Olivier was brilliant in the role and this performance is often overlooked when villain lists are compiled. Kudos!

I knew when I began the list that Szell would be somewhere in the top five.

Great list here. Straight Time deserves more love, and I just watched Bad Boys again the other day which still holds up remarkably well. The ending is really great. I do think you should have given Clancy Brown's hairdo a special mention though.:D

Its not a particular person, but a character played by Ritesh Deshmukh in Bollywood movie named Ek Villain. I like the detailing of his character and his body language.

I read somewhere recently that Olivier was very ill during the filming of Marathon Man but it sure doesn't show onscreen.

I had actually considered putting Clancy Brown on the list, either for Bad Boys or The Shawshank Redemption.

Can't believe I left Buford T. Justice off my list...one of the great comic villains...I would add him to my list of honorable mentions.

Cruella De Vil for some reason has firmly embedded herself in the depths of my consciousness as the consummate villain--something about the combined power of her name and the fact that she wants to dress in puppy pelts.

One of my favorite underrated villain performances is Ray Liotta from Something Wild. Terrifying. Especially contrasted with Jeff Daniels' character.

Forgot all about Cruelle De Vil, one of cinema's great villains...do you prefer the animated version or the Glenn Close version?
