Although it has happened on the B v S board, I was speaking of the random threads on Ben Affleck's page, created with the sole purpose of insulting his boobs, and his brother. I don't know much about the latter, but will come out fighting for the former!

lol I remember when that interview came out and someone posted it to IMDB commenting on how Cavill was defending it like crazy and how weird to see him laughing and smiling and I was like screw that, look at Affleck, he looks like he's about to cry... then like 2 days later Sad Affleck came out with the music added... I was like awesome, I wasn't just seeing things there...

Something is wrong with the system--it wouldn't let me add the link. When I chose "add link" it brought up the window as usual but when I placed the link in and hit "OK" the window remained blank and didn't apply the link. Not sure why it won't work. It worked yesterday.:(

When a movie with a rather unknown character to the general populace beats a movie with 3 of the most well known characters in Comics, you got to laugh. :D

And when a Z lister [Dr. Strange] beats a Superman movie, you absolutely have to. :D

I really feel for Affleck. He's been apologising for Daredevil for years, and he can't stop kicking his own arse about it, or any other failure. I imagine he felt extra pressure to give us a decent Batman so it must have hit him to hear negative responses, even if he was expecting it.

For what it's worth, to me, his physical representation of Batman/Bruce Wayne is beautiful. Often strikingly like the comics.

Strange times we live in, aren't they? When I was a kid, Batman movies were very popular and no one EVER would have thought "Batman and Superman in one movie was beaten by some guy in spandex named 'Deadpool'". For anyone of non-comic readers, we would have said: "Deadpool? What's a Deadpool and how did he beat Batman and Superman in one movie?"
Strange times...

Totally.

The best thing is that Deadpool was done with a lot of love and respect for the character. It worked wonders. I can't wait for the 2nd one. And I hope it keeps up with the meta shenanigans and dark humor.

I can even see Deapool taking to Cable: "is your mother's name Martha? If feels like we're already best buddies" :D:D:D

Deadpool is pretty funny tbh.
There's some real cult favourite scenes laced throughout.

The good thing with Mr Pool is that the movie doesn't start strong and then die by act 2... it stays consistently funny throughout.

After seeing that Deadpool movie, I'm still wondering just what the hell they were thinking with that treatment of him in the Wolverine movie...

It helps to know the character, if you don't Deadpools thing is he breaks the fourth wall, all the time... in the comic he's constantly staring straight at the reader talking to them...

Ryan Reynolds is a huge fan and hated the take in Origins Wolverine (even makes cracks about it in the film along with digs at his stint as Green lantern.)

But putting a superfan in the role made every bit of difference, he's having a blast playing it and it shows.

Funniest self-reference in the movie is when Colossus says he's taking him to see the Professor and Pool just throws out:
"MacAvoy or Stewart? These timelines are so confusing!"

I think you need to wait at least 20 or 30 years now until you can tell if a movie is really great. If people are still obsessed with Deadpool in 2047, then I'll be impressed.

In the Lego Avengers game Deadpool was breaking the fourth wall throughout the game, so that was, ironically, my first exposure to Deadpool. I didn't see the movie until much later and that was on video. It's amazing how his video game and movie personas were, well, matched.

The thing with Deadpool as well, is the start sequence.

WARNING: "Mr Pool" spoilers below

Slow-mo sequence, great song choice, Pool has his crotch in one guy's face while giving another guy a wedgy and a third with a cigarette lighter in his mouth...

The moment that got going, I knew I was going to enjoy the rest of the movie.

Yeah, what was up with Barakapool? I can't figure out why they would portray Deadpool that way in that Wolverine movie.

When I saw that Wolverine movie, I was unimpressed with Deadpool. When they started hinting at a Deadpool movie near the end, I found myself asking: "Why? This character is uninteresting.

Then, when all the news came out, I started reading into Deadpool and it was like looking into another character altogether. It was only then that I realized how screwed up Barakapool was and why fans were so upset. I had NO idea about who Deadpool was when I saw that movie...NONE.

That's just the character... if they're going to do the character right that's just what they end up with, it's why Deadpool showed up out of nowhere in the comics and became an instant fan favorite, he pokes fun at the business. I'd imagine the writers have a ball doing it too.

And why when the version popped up in X-Men origins Wolverine everyone said "What the hell was THAT?" sewing his mouth shut so he couldn't talk was the ultimate middle finger to the fans.

I realized I was starting to "act that way" but it's true - a lot of times, they go for humor in stuff by playing with homosexuality on the intended, mostly straight male audience. I think it's a way they release pent up gay feelings straight men aren't always allowed to express.

The Cab driver was great, I liked where he was telling him to let the guy out of the trunk and release him while pantomiming motions to kill him so the X-Men couldn't see it...

And every time his phone rang and said "Mr. Pool" with Deadpools face on the screen....

Yeah, it was as if they decided to "physically" make his face look like the mask or something. His "Cyclops eyes" had those triangular shadows over them and his mouth was sewn shut because...the mask doesn't have a mouth, I guess.

I sort of liked the concept of him having many mutant powers in one but was then surprised to see him so easily killed off.

Then, when I finally saw "Deadpool" I was thinking: "So THIS is why everyone hated him in Wolverine Origins! No wonder! That was...like...not even the same character!" If I were a Deadpool fan during that time, I would have been INSULTED. I mean--what they did to Deadpool is the equivalent of Bruce Wayne shaving his head, having bat ears surgically implanted on the top of his head and becoming a villain. I mean...what were they THINKING? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's amazing that, after that crappy version of Deadpool, they would bother greenlighting the movie let ALONE let Reynolds anywhere near it. I mean--you'd think that people would be worried about getting Barakapool again when they saw Reynold's name.

Wasn't the film more or less supported by Reynolds in its creation? I heard that he had to fight to get it made. No wonder he had to fight--Barakapool was horrible and the executives were probably thinking: "People will remember Wolverine Origins and it will flop". They were wrong. :yup:

Not all of the air is fresh--you'll see a gas station toilet or two in the mix there--one of them just joined today.

As I understand it, Deadpool is canonically pansexual in the comics, though it seems like the movie's jokes about his sexuality tend to come off wrong (such as him threatening the stalker pizza guy).

It's a fun movie with a healthy dose of dark humor and meta quips.

There's a part whee Deadpool goes to the X-Mansion and says something like "Why are only two of you here? It's as if the studio didn't have any more money for more actors"

:yup:
Yeah, allegedly Reynolds is a big comics fan, Deadpool specifically and was all in finding out he could play him in Origins just to end up at the end with the version with sword arms and the sewn shut mouth... He was... unhappy.

I wasn't even reading comics that much anymore when deadpool debuted but a friend that was loaned me some issues telling me I HAD to see this new character... and it was awesome. I loved the aspect of them tearing themselves to shreds for comedy... so needless to say, to sew the "Merc with a mouth" mouths shut... was... well it made origins unwatchable.

Deadpool without a constant stream of wall breaking quips just isn't deadpool.

So, that may have been one of the worst movie adaptations of a character of all time then? Seems like it. That Barakapool wasn't even Deadpool--it was some horrid monstrosity. I guess Eisenberg Lex is another horrible misinterpretation but that's another story...

It'd be nice if they would actually venture outside of this thread and the few others they created and actually integrate into the community.

Just a thought.

I really dig all the references Deadpool has in the movie. His "Green Lantern" photo coming pout of the flying wallet, him saying not be given an "animated" superhero suit [green lantern stab], that awful "Barrakapool" figurine, the "studio has no money for more x.men" quip.

Man, there are dozens of hilarious quips through out the movie.

"fart #driveby"

Yeah it was like earlier in the movie when he was just Wade Wilson, Mercenary, he WAS deadpool, just no powers or costumes... constantly being a smart ass, Everyone constantly telling him to shut up... deadly with the katanas.. (the scene deflecting bullets is still THE high point...) maybe they thought f they made a proper Deadpool he'd steal Wolverine's movie or something, but I was all about seeing him get the costume just to have that.... thing wheeled out and I was all "No no no no (is it woman day?) No no NOOOOOOOOO"

GIve us time.

We introduce ourselves, try to make head and tail of the site, create our own lists [or at least try to figure how to]... it takes time.

Plus there are users from IMDB coming not all of us know about [and others we unfortunately do].

It's a new system for us.

Oh yeah getting wheeled in when he thinks he's getting super powers.. "Just don't make the super suit green... OR ANIMATED!!"

I'd consider these spoilers but pretty much every line of dialogue from him is humor... the only way to spoil it would be post the entire script...

That's typical, brainwashed, "do everything the way I tell you" MoFo style of thinking.

I like the fact that they rebelliously stay in here. They have their own CHILL CLUB thread. They are retaining their own sense of culture, their heritage. They're not trying to assimilate and "be normal" and be cookie cutter, like everyone else.

I've been posting all over the place.. I'm sure to somes disgust..lol So has Dteam and Devil..

But I know several are just laying low getting a feel for how the place is, attitudes, etc.

Someone told Dani last night to do just that. After the "cancer incident" don't post, learn how things are done around here, THEN chime in...

so being scolded probably doesn't help get people out of their shell, personally, I don't care... Any headaches are just a click away from relief...

My favourite part was about hero landings
"Look, she is about to do superhero landing, You know, that's really hard on your knees."
or of course, the one, the best, the greatest...negasonic teenage warhead... every scene with her is pure gold. We should enscribe it on a mountain so this bit of dialogue can survive the fall of our species.

I loved when she got introduced to him... Complete carnage as far as the eye can see...

"This is Negasonic Teenage warhead..."

"Wait... what?"

"Negasonic Teenage warhead."

"That.... is the coolest name... EVER!!"

When Deadpool goes around asking for "francesca" is hilarious.

I spit popcorn when he gets shot in the back, turns to the shooter and walks slowly towards him asking "where's francesca". :D:D

There is old rule: more lurking less posting. I read IMDB for months before ever registering or writing a single paragraph. I wanted to know the place, before partaking in conversations.
Some "refugees" have been on IMDB for years and they are used to knowing most of the posters, their attitudes and a fine line of what is and is not acceptable.
So yes of course we (or at least I) feel more at ease talking with people whom I know than all those new people. This is not "us vs them" it is human nature. In a couple of weeks we will be fully integrated, functioning members of community:D

Or when he's showing around his stick figure crayon drawing of deadpool stabbing francis (with both people labeled) seriously asking "Have you seen this man?"

"We" were already anticipating some sort of frowning.

It's only natural. When new blood comes in to a closed place there will always be a sort of "now listen here, this is how it's done in these parts" attitude. Which is good to set the record straight for the trolls.

And quite frankly, given the deservedly bad rap IMDB has, it couldn't be any different.

It is true that, because some of us came together [not all, though] from the same place, we tend to stay together, because we only have the peoiple we already know as a reference.

However, I've been doing all sorts of threads in various forums and so have Dteam and Odum.

While this may look like a "sanctuary" of sorts, it is only temporary for sure.

Well that's sh!tty advice, IMO. Don't lay low. Don't just dip in a toe to test the waters. Jump in with both feet, but be aware that people are not always going to agree with you and they may challenge what you have to say. That's how forums work.

Integrating does not mean losing your personal identity, as Sexy seems to think it does, it just means not closing yourself off.

There is one problem with Deadpool...when you want to make a youtube movie titled "the best of deadpool" you have to just upload entire movie:)

People on Movie Forums - regulars, old timers - some of them, I think, don't realize how INGRAINED they've become in their set ways around here. How they feel stuff must always be a certain way. How certain attitudes must always be true.
