Yes, it is a well-known movie. I've never watched it though. The movie title is about the name of the main character, who is an Australian policeman.

The first of this series of movies got released in 1979.

I do not hesitate to post suggestions of titles even when I'm almost sure they're not the actual title to guess. It appears those suggestions can be close to the title to guess or lead to clues :)

Le Général Charles de Gaulle (picture) is quite famous in France.
He was President. The bullet (pic) and "president shot dead" (pic) encouraged me to google "de Gaulle death", which led me to the movie.
