These kiosks never survive long since their niche wares are barely sustainable so I looked around, but I was constantly suckered in by the first of several trailers that were playing on loop on a quad monitor. I had absolutely no intention of buying a movie that day, let alone "blind", but I did and it was Dragon Tiger Gate and it was good. |

In theory, the premise of this movie sounds really cool: a mad scientist type can't dream, so he abducts children and steals their dreams. The problem for me is simply that I don't like fantasy movies. I'll watch a trailer for a movie like this and want to give it a try, but when I watch one, it makes my insides groan. I used to love the Sinbad movies as a kid, but then I started hating movies I really wanted to see like Time Bandits and Brazil. In fact, City of Lost Children was very much like a foreign language Terry Gilliam film. I thought a lot of the visuals were really awesome, and I was surprised that my wife enjoyed it. She's a reader while I am not, and I guess she's more used to using her imagination. I thought this was a very good movie that I'd highly recommend for fans of fantasy. Sadly, that's not me. |
Re: The Movie Forums Chain Challenge
I've been meaning to watch that movie again (I haven't seen it in probably over a decade), but I can never seem to get around to it haha.

20 minutes into Dragon Tiger Gate  Im laughing with it, not at it. The camerawork and angles the director wants show real creativity, and good scene pacing. Its hilarious the distance someone getting kicked attains, not even if they took a running start bouncing off a trampoline could they make such distance  So far its good fun

"Dragon" is cracking me up with this hair which perpetually stays over one eye for dramatic posing effect. One scene hes talking to a girl, and his hair completely falls in front of his face, in front of both his eyes, and looked like cousin "It" from the Adams Family. Never once pauses, doesnt move the hair out his eyes/face, just kept saying his lines

Halfway thru Dragon Tiger Gate, they need to immediately fire Michael Bay from whatever projects hes attached to, and hire the person that did the picture layouts in whatever comic this came from, and the director. Theyd save a bunch of money and show how true "over the top scenes" should be done with the correct use of camera angles.
For instance, Will Eisner would have been an incredible film director if he had ever tried it. His work on The Spirit was the best use of angles, and how Marvel Comics patterned how they told stories. |

Dragon Tiger Gate
I recognized some stuff they did from a local Tae-Kwon Do dojo in town. Im kidding  The movie was great, best spots ive seen in years, (2 or 3 seconds of a scene) and those spots kept coming and coming all throughout. Really creative, didnt like the story but I did like the characters, and just a beautiful fun fight flick if you can check your believability at the door. If this was a comic book Im sure they did it justice. Think Sin City meets alot of colors meets a high energy drink meets fast forward speed. That is Dragon Tiger Gate. :) |

I had a helpful idea:) It's really easy to put a link to a person's review in the movie list. So I went through the thread and found the links and put them in ( I might have missed some?).

Asylum Blackout - https://s22.postimg.org/hxenbe3jl/banner.jpg This tripe certainly lives up to its name. I had to turn up my TV's brightness by 15, and still couldn't make out everything. Hm, I gotta pick now....Im gonna try and find newblood.... |
Accion mutante (1993) http://dreamers.com/indices/imagenes...16.IMAGEN2.jpg Took me a while to find this, but it was well worth the effort. Bloodshed, mayhem, lunatics and love make up this celluloid of hilarity and utter deprivation. Yeah, this move is all over the place and often nonsensical and it works for it all the more. I happen to be a big fan of movies that cater toward its aesthetics of surrealism and the absurd. It's what I love so much about 80's and 90's horror cinema. I liked the energy this had, to the point where every character, even those meant to be only a secondary (or less) role was dynamic and just had a life of its own. There are however certain elements where it's evident there's an influence from other films, but it did a nice job combining those elements and utilizing them in a creative way. One gripe I have is about the music used in some scenes. Which with different and better choices it would've heightened the action more and made it that much more awesome. Also, in the editing department, there were certain shots that could've used less time and others more. But other than that I would say this was a success and this director has my undivided attention. Then again, he always had it. |

Above The Clouds gave me this to watch...
