Re: Your Top 5 Favourite Acting Performances
Man I've been trying to think of a good list but it's kind of a mess, but here it is:
1. A tie between Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and Sean Bean as Boromir (LotR) 2. Peter O'Toole as Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) 3. Edward Norton as Narrator (Fight Club) 4. Cary Elwes as Westley (The Princess Bride) 5. Al Pacino as Sonny Wortzik (Dog Day Afternoon) Honorable Mentions: Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates (Psycho), Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass (The Revenant), R. Lee Ermey as Sgt. Hartman (Full Metal Jacket) Edit: Of course I forgot an obvious one: Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink (Reservoir Dogs) |

Well I would say it was a not as serious and/or dramatic role as the other ones. Princess Bride itself isn't a very serious movie—but just like O'Toole as Lawrence or Ray Liotta as Henry Hill—I think that Elwes was truly born to play that role. |
1. Maggie Cheung - In the Mood for Love
Breaks my heart every time I see her in this. Defo the reason I'm not 100% gay 2. Emily Watson - Breaking The Waves Best thing about the film, should have won everything going that year. The "you cannot love words" and the scene where she's locked out her house were utterly amazing. This was like her first film as well. Love her 3. Meryl Streep - Sophie's Choice I can't believe Ursula Andress was offered the role first  this was Streep's best performance to me. 4. Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth I can't believe she lost to ******* Gwenyth Paltrow, she ain't even nice! Anyway, I thought she was utterly fantastic as a young girl who sacrifices her identity and interests in order to become one of Britain's finest monarchs. 5. Tony Leung - 2046 The development of his character from 'In the Mood for Love' was simply superb. |
Re: Your Top 5 Favourite Acting Performances
I'm going to pick just one by each actor, otherwise Brando would fill it up.
1. Marlon Brando - On The Waterfront 2. Gena Rowlands - A Woman Under The Influence 3. Art Carney - Harry and Tonto 4. Stacy Keach - Fat City 5. Giulieta Masina - La Strada Honorable Mention: Jack Nicholson - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest |
1. Jim Carrey - Man On The Moon
2. Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight 3. William H. Macy - Fargo 4. Kevin Spacey - American Beauty 5. Tom Hanks - Forrest Gump |

1 - Al Pacino - The Devil's Advocate
2 - Choi Min-sik - Oldboy 3 - Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver 4 - Leonardo Di Caprio - The Revenant 5 - Marlon Brando - The Godfather |
1) Di Caprio (What's eating Gilbert grape)
2) Redmayne (The theory of everything) 3) Nicholson (The shining) 4) Hanks (Captain Phillips) 5) Streep (Sophie's choice) |
1. Michael Caine in Sleuth (1972)
2. Laurence Olivier in Sleuth (1972) 3. Tatsuya Nakadai in Human Condition trilogy 4. Kang-ho Song in The Good, the Bad, the Weird 5. Graham Chapman in Life of Brian as Brian Cohen (he played two other characters, and they're hilarious, too, but he's awesome as Brian) |

Having thought about it, Brett's genius performance kept coming to mind, so I'm happy to put him in number 1 spot. I often mention that what fascinates me is the precise control he showed over his expressions, which seems to be unrivalled. He's the definitive Holmes for good reason :p. |

I've done Guys and Dolls three times...played Nicely twice and played Nathan Detroit once. |
Re: Your Top 5 Favourite Acting Performances
Hmm, I feel like I should rethink my top five from a page back.
Might be that I'm still high off Phoenix's work on The Master from yesterday's watch. Maybe I ought to give that "Top 50 performances of the 2010s" countdown a serious go. |
