"My Beautiful Launderette" is wonderful, I don't think I've seen Daniel Day Lewis looking cuter. Have you seen "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid" or "Prick Up Your Ears"? Stephen Frears is a great director, but some of his finest films don't get much lip service.
yes, i've seen those movies. I had to leave out so many. Like, tie me up, tie me down, that movies is great! have you seen cinema paradiso? I cry at the end every time, so touching!:bawl:

A lot of favourites here as I'm a lover of non-English language cinema, but here are some choice cuts :

Japan

Hana-Bi, Sonatine (Kitano "Beat" Takeshi)
almost every Kurosawa
Dead or Alive (Takashi Miike)
Battle Royale (Kinji Fukasaku)
Tetsuo : The Ironman (Shinja Tsukamoto)
Ringu (Hideo Nakata)

Korea

Shiri
Friend
J.S.A.

China / HK

Hard-Boiled, A Better Tommorow, The Killer (John Woo)
Project A, Drunken Master (Jackie Chan)
Once Upon a Time in China (Tsui Hark...I think)

Europe

Los Sin Nombre (The Nameless)
Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes)
Kingdom (Lars von Trier, TV miniseries)
Lola Rennt
Blechtrommel (The Tin Drum)
Night Watch
Zentropa (again Von Trier)
Devil's Backbone

And probably much more, but can't think straight now.

Being a Serbian, I was force-fed with Kusturica until exhaustion point. I'm not too fond of the director - but Underground was decent...correction, it WOULD have been decent if it lasted a reasonable 120 minutes. This way, it bogs down somewhere at the 100 minute mark and just drags on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on...

Better example of our glorious cinematic output might be Pretty Village, Pretty Flame (Lepa Sela Lepo Gore), available on DVD worldwide. Or anything <1990. you can get your hands on, sans partizan war films which served mainly as communist goverment propaganda.
