Halloween II (Rick Rosenthal, 1981) - + [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psecbc8fb4.jpg Decent slasher but really can't touch the original in any way. I mean, look, I can watch just about any slasher, especially those from the 80's, and have a good time. Doesn't make a lot of them great cinema. Some of them are, and those are some of my favorite movies of all-time, but Halloween II is a perfect example of an entirely watchable, entertaining turd. It has a lot of problems, but it's not too bad. I realize I've been rating things incredibly high, just been watching a lot of my faves, but is my rating for 'decent', so that's what I give Halloween II. Also, they ruined the mythology with that damn sister revelation. It does have some good stuff. I love the use of "Mr. Sandman" and the ending is pretty great. I like the concept of having it follow the same night and the fallout of what happens in the first film. It's just, unfortunately, the execution is incredibly underwhelming compared to the masterwork of the first film. But, in the end, I'd watch this movie over a lot of stuff, maybe even something I'd give a slightly higher rating. |

19-01-2015 The Bridges of Madison County Clint Eastwood 1995 135 min. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HIQkxer6u5..._055Pyxurz.jpg I probably didn't love it as much as most people but I still think it's a very good movie, mostly because of Mery Streep! What a complete actress! The writing seems too artificial most of the times, the begging was a bit unbelievable, and Eastwood acts like he's in a western (that's probably the only way he knows). However, the atmosphere created is really moving and the movie is beautifully shot! I also loved the ending, specially the scene when he hangs her collar in the rear-view mirror! Overall, it's a good romance to see with your SO, as I did! :) |

Creature from the Black Lagoon (Jack Arnold, 1954) - + [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psc0c82bc5.jpg This movie isn't one of the more well-made movies in the Universal monster canon, but it's one of my favorites! It's a total b-movie with a kickass monster! Julie Adams is hot! Thank God this was in black and white or else we'd have to see a creature wearing a bunch of lipstick, judging by the poster! |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
Before these past 2 days, I actually have seen a movie a day. But its more like 4 one day, zero for four days, 2 the next day.

Clerks (Kevin Smith, 1994) - + [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psea719f5a.jpg Such great movie. So much good. The hell am I supposed to say about this one? It's a groovy flick. I saw it for the first time about a year ago, I think. There are a few things I love about this movie. Obviously the dialogue and humor. I also love how strangely captivating it is. There are times when I'm just lost in the dialogue. Smith is definitely a talented writer. I think the main thing I love about this film is it's low budget feel, though. I've said it before, but I freaking love low budget movies (that are good). Halloween, Primer, and Clerks are perfect examples of what I'm talking about. https://38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m...t1hko1_500.gif |

A Chinese Torture Chamber Story Bosco Lam 1994 88 min. http://www.lovehkfilm.com/reviews_2/...mber_story.jpg I did a commentary with MG on her own territory and it was epic! One of the most twisted comedies I've ever seen! With a very simple story, this movie does not ask a lot of you but it is amazingly effective on its purpose - to amaze, make laugh and impress! Impressive scenes and epic characters make this an extremely enjoyable experience and surely one I will want to rewatch! |

The story is heavily dramatic and depressing, always with a very naive atmosphere! The animation is impressive and all the small details give this a lot of magic. I cried so much at the end and I don't use to cry at all watching films. An absolute masterpiece! |

22-01-2015 Foxcatcher Bennet Miller 2014 129 min. http://cdn.collider.com/wp-content/u...rell-slice.jpg Apart from great perfomances (especially from Rufallo, who outshines everyone else) I didn't like this a lot! The pacing is horrible, Carell offers an interesting character but it lacks some depth, and except the climax I felt really bored! I didn't like the editing too! I liked the atmosphere though and there were some wrestling scenes quite interesting! + |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
Bummer you didn't like it Neiba. One of my few favorites this year. It is slow but in a great way for me. I just think I got lost in the atmosphere your talking about. It was like some Neanderthal alternate universe. I thought the performances were spot on by all three as well.
|
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
I thought Tatum was easily the best of the three. Carell's makeup was quite distracting to say the least.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (Jay Roach, 1999) - [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psrbsnzor2.jpg I actually think I like this one more than the first one. Maybe not. Both are really entertaining. Yeah baby, yeah! |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
I prefer the sequel to the original too. Heather Graham was perfect and better in my opinion to Liz Hurley. Though that English accent drives me nuts!

23-01-2015 Singin' in the Rain Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly 1952 103 min. http://livingincinema.com/wp-content...in-001-450.jpg Why don't they do musicals like this anymore? Perfect in every way! Great story, funny, charming, with natural transitions to songs, well acted and with amazing tap-dance scenes! Every actor here is amazing but Donald O'Connor is from another galaxy! Every musical should learn from this! It's so above everything made nowadays! + |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
I think that the spy who shagged me is the only Austin Powers I have seen in it's entirety. Really funny stuff.

Had a really good day today. Wrote a short script, shot one of the scenes, and watched two great horror movies. Life is good. Drag Me to Hell (Sam Raimi, 2009) - + [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psab0mxaq0.jpg I kind of consider this a return to form for Sam Raimi. It's the best thing he's made since the Evil Dead flicks. It's a great example of horror sucking you in from the get-go - a brilliant opening scene that gets you pumped! And that ending. Man, I get chills every time... I don't want to spoil anything, but yeah, it is one badass ending. I love the cast too. Alison Lohman and Justin Long are both incredibly likable in their roles. All around a really great and underrated horror film. Braindead (Peter Jackson, 1992) - [REWATCH] http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ps6pd4w25f.jpg One of my fave horror flicks, really. It has some of the coolest effects. Old-school Peter Jackson is awesome and I want him to make another horror movie dammit. I believe this has the record of most blood used in a movie, doesn't it? Anyway, quirky as hell but such a likable film. Best line? "I kick a$$ for the lord!" It's the way he says it. |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
Never seen Drag Me to Hell, but Braindead is fantastic. I think I might have voted for it when we did the 90s countdown.

Well, give it a try. Also, you suck for not liking The Evil Dead. But that's a different story. I imagine someone who doesn't like the Evil Dead movies might still like Drag Me to Hell. They're different beasts.

I've watched two movies this year, that I can remember anyway, both of them for the horror hall of fame. Shoulda nominated Drag Me to Hell, and I would have already seen it, bro. The Abominable Dr. Phibes is dope though, so no harm no foul.

Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
I didn't like Evil Dead or Drag Me to Hell. I guess I just got bored after a while. I don't know how much puking and getting puked on a person is supposed to endure without acting like anything unusual is happening to them and it still be funny. It's like a kid telling you the same joke over and over, except it was never funny to begin with. But to be fair I didn't give Drag Me to Hell a real chance, and I haven't seen the whole movie. I just got really bored to death with what I did see that I don't want to finish watching it.

The New York Ripper (Lucio Fulci, 1982) - http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psqd4yjkaw.jpg Cap's post about my rewatching so many movies made me want to watch something new, and I was in the mood for a giallo so I put this one on. Good stuff. Might have been scary except horror movies aren't scary, but also because I was too busy boogieing to it's soundtrack to notice. I thought this was a 70's movie when I started because of the soundtrack, but it's actually '82! Oh well, close enough. Not like the first time I saw Jacob's Ladder, a 90's flick, and thought it was from the 70's. |

24-01-2015 Noah Darren Aronofsky 2014 138 min. I love Aronofsky's unique vision so I was a bit afraid to watch his take on a summer blockbuster! Well, it's without a doubt his weakest, but it was a lot better than I expected! He mixes religion, fantasy, science and morality with a obvious intent to please every type of viewer, Christian or atheist! He kept it neutral and while that is perhaps one of the greatest strenghts of the movie, it's also one of its greatest weaknesses, because it does not take risks. Visually has some really outstanding moments, Aronofsky's trademark! It has also a dark mood that goes with the free adaptation of the original story and some cool bits of fantasy! However, I wished he had developed more the Guardians' story. The perfomances are average, the only one who stands out is probably Emma Watson, who is becoming a very good actress! I didn't find the soundtrack particularly interesting mostly because it reminded me of every fantasy blockbuster ever... A fun watch overall but I wish Aronofsky goes back to what he does best! |

25-01-2015 The Game David Fincher 1997 129 min. http://www.hdmovietrailers.eu/wp-con...ame-1997-4.png David Fincher has a very personal way of making films. His works are always on the verge of the unbelievable, with a lot of plot twists! That fact and the creepy, mysterious atmosphere he always creates are the reasons why I like him so much! However, when one works on that verge, one has to be careful not to fall on the other side! The premise is extremely interesting, the acting is great, but that ending is completely preposterous! That together with some pacing problems really ruin what could be a great thriller! |

The Burning (Todd Maylam, 1981) - http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pswivzaufj.jpg Bought this based on nostromo's recommendation, for my dad for Christmas. This movie is an absolute blast and possibly one of the best slashers I've seen. I tend to judge slashers quite a bit on rewatchability, so we'll see how this stands up to repeat viewings, but I can't imagine it'll be anything less than great this second, third, and fourth time around. When we started it I said "it's probably your typical slasher." Not in a negative sense - I LOVE typical slashers. The thing is, watching it I found it's not too typical at all. There is no final girl, it seems to have a higher budget than most 80's slashers, and it has a badass score by Rick Wakeman, which shocked both me and my dad. I have two complaints, but they're extremely minor. The first is I wish Holly Hunter had more lines, as I like her. But back then she was an unknown, so it's not a big deal. The second problem I had was the twist. I actually liked the twist, but I felt they kind of put it in there and then didn't really do anything with it. Still, like I said those complaints are minor and don't really hurt the overall enjoyment for me. This is one of the most engaging and fun slashers I've seen and I can't wait to do a commentary on it with nostromo and whoever else wants to join. Thanks for the recommendation dude! |
Re: Movie a Day by the Bay
I think I gave The Burning or the first time I watched it. It was enjoyable, but I don't think I had as much as fun as you.
