Re: 5 Films from the 2000's that will be remembered 50 years from now (i.e. classics)

Well I already said LotR so I guess that's all I agree with. Memento? That was backwards (in more ways than one) and retarded. Weak script and acting, can't be on anyone's list. Children of Men was weak too, had a few entertaining moments, but not memorable.
Memento fits the bill as being a neo-noir classic that will still be known fifty years from now in the same way that something like, say, Detour is now. Children of Men is already being hailed as the 2000s answer to Blade Runner, with its bleak atmosphere, excellent camerawork and understated brilliance.

LOTR goes without saying, really, though if I need to include something extra then I nominate Mulholland Drive as being an intense arthouse film that, while not perfect, is still worthwhile due to its puzzling structure and all-around intensity.

Yeah, Memento is a total no-brainer; simply declaring it "retarded" isn't an argument. Also, whether or not you liked it is a separate question from whether or not it'll be remembered as a classic. I'd say it's one of the safer bets out there. For one, Nolan's gone to to make quite a name for himself, so I think his stuff in general will be remembered. For another, it uses some very interesting storytelling techniques, which makes it different and potentially influential. And for another, it's widely praised by critics and us ordinary folk alike, and it's already a decade old! If it were going to fade away, it would've started to do so already. It's a great choice.

Dude, seriously, HOW much time do you spend on this forum? I spent a couple of weeks just reading around and your name keeps coming up all the time. You write these essay-long replies (that everyone finds boring) and seem obsessed with this place. Have you no other interests aside from putting your opinions (that's all they are) in everyone's faces?

My guess: single, late 30s and desperate for a date. Right?

He's the creator of the site, oh wise one.

Man, you must work for a movie theatre because you're great at projecting.

Aw, he's banned. Auf wiedersehn, dummkopf.

And...banned. And I find it supremely ironic that the guy who keeps trying to sneak back and was begging to be reinstated this afternoon thinks I'm "obsessed" with this place. Particularly given that I, you know, own it. That's like being "obsessed" with your own home.

Anyway, we all know what's going down here. This idea that he "spent a couple of weeks just reading around" is a pretty silly attempt to cover the fact that he's been here before. As for whether or not my posts sometimes bore people; I'd imagine so, given that some of them are only meant to school trolls with nothing better to do. Those aren't meant to enterain others, just to entertain me.

By the by, I'm 26 and engaged.

Your a keyboard warrior, researching the place for weeks in preparation for your 'forum attack'.

Wow, I missed all this while I ate a pizza?

*urp*

Watched Kick Ass again - that was fun.

Definitely a guilty pleasure, that one. That's twice in as many days.

Say...you keep asking people for their list of films, and you also say you have been reading the site for weeks...have you not noticed the drop down Top 10 lists in the top right of each post? Also, you won't get very far in discussion if you can't come up with more than "It's retarded" as a counter-argument. when people disagree with you.

Ok then... To late on this one, too, it appears!

I need to stop leaving posts open for editing for 15 minutes at a time while I dork around at my house!

If anything, this thread helped me learn that "dork" is also a verb and that it's possible for people to "dork around" at home.

Whatever that means.

A Neologism, perhaps?

WHAT? You started this place when you were 16? Or is this some kind of inside joke that I failed to get, because I didn't back read this troll thread?

Congrats to you (if it's true)! http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ews/yippee.gif

Don't those movies all star the same girl...what's her name, Erin something or other...

Be interesting to see if people still remember whatsername ten years from now, let alone fifty.

Actually, I was fifteen for the first month or so. Thanks. :) But yeah, it's not a meta joke or anything; I started teaching myself HTML and other web technologies at a pretty early age and was fairly interested in a piece of forum software at the time, so it seemed like a good fit. And I was young enough that I was able to really put a ridiculous amount of time into it for the first few years. Yes, ridiculous even compared to now.
