Big fan of Stallone movies; Lock Up and Victory are also solid.

Aww, I like Assassins as well... bit of no-brainer that wants to have a brain but that's kinda the point...

It's only problem is that it's almost painfully overlong.

I love me some Stallone action! I'm a really big fan of him and his movies. Indeed through watching the Rocky movies loads of times as a kid he was probably the first of my favourite actors. And from Rocky on I kept discovering his films and I'm struggling to think of a single film of his I actually don't like (well maybe Rocky V)

I love the Rocky films (particularly the first and fourth) and the Rambo series (especially First Blood). Also a huge fan of Over the Top, Tango & Cash, Cliffhanger, Cobra, Demolition Man, Assassins and Cop Land. And I can't believe no-one has mentioned the brilliantly ridiculuos Escape to Victory. I mean come on, Stallone and Pele in the same movie? Epic!

This has just reminded I still have a few of his to check out - Death Race 2000, Nighthawks, Lock Up, Specialist

Nighthawks is really good. Death Race 2000, as you should know, is bloody brilliant.

After watching Cop Land the other night, Stallone is now held higher in my regard. He was really, really good in that, even upstaging De Niro and Keitel!

I actually really like Rocky V, much more than Balboa and even II. I liked that it was very close to the first Rocky, tonally and it tried to break the cheesy streak the franchise was going through with something more thoughtful and character focused. And one cannot mention the good things about Rocky V without bringing up the performance of Richard Gant. He is hilariously OTT as a Don King caricature, and his scenes always make me laugh without fail, every single time.

And definitely check out The Specialist, JayDee. It's one of my Stallone favourites (it's a pretty bad movie, though). It's well directed and James Woods is great as the villian. Plus, you get to see some early 90's Sharon Stone ;)

Yeah he's great in that. :yup: Terrific to see him be the stand out in a film with Keitel, De Niro, Liotta, Robert Patrick etc. In fact that's probably the main reason I like the film so much. As someone who really likes Stallone as an actor, and just as a seemingly decent guy, I love seeing him be given the chance to quiet his doubters and detractors.

As I said he seems like a really good guy, nice and very honest about his shortcomings in terms of acting ability and some of the films he has made. Reminds me that I'll need to give his terrific interview with AICN from a few years back another read.

I have always found the first 4 ROCKY films and the first two RAMBO films totally watchable. I thought he was amazing in COPLAND...possibly his finest performance. For mindless fun, you can't beat TANGO & CASH and I'm also a big fan of a rarely-talked about film of his called DAYLIGHT.

Nothing but utter respect for Sly - he was never given a chance, and did it all on his own. The man is proof that if u want something bad enough u can achieve it. I mean, he can't act for toffee, but he has bags of charisma. Kudos to sly. Plus he looks great for his age, unlike poor old Arnie.

Re: Sylvester Stallone

I mentioned COPLAND in the under rated thread, and I'll mention it again, not only is it a great movie, with a great ensemble cast: Ray Liotta, Harvey Keitel,Robert DeNiro,Robert Patrick, Cathy Moriarty, and more. But what was great about the movie is you got to see the "vulnerable" Stallone, he gained weight/fat for the role, played kind of a bumbling love struck sheriff who was deaf in one ear, etc, just a great watch.

Other then the obvious ones mentioned, Expendables 1 and 2 are great because they know they are "Bad," good movies, if that makes sense, its one of those, so cheesy its good type things.

However, Bullet to the Head was very disappointing.

I really enjoyed the remakes of Get Carter, just a great melancholic revenge movie, kind of Sly's answer to Mel Gibson's Payback, which I think is great as well.

Was disappointed with the new "Rocky," however, as a mindless action movie goes the new "Rambo," succeeded on all levels. I laugh whenever i watch this movie, because here's John Rambo/Sly living in Burma, like so distant of a place, its not even considered third world, living off of just snake meat, and the guy is like 230lbs all muscle, jacked, all of snake meat.

Enjoyed his smaller role in SHADE as well
