Yeah, this is exactly what I was worried about. Let's please stop there.

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

I'm more worried about how this rule means that this turns into a vague and meaningless dead end where framing this issue as a generic complaint about a big bad company not respecting an abstract concept like "different opinions" is missing the bigger picture regarding what exactly about this particular person's precise opinions was so objectionable as to prompt such a reaction, but sure, let's please stop there please.

WrinkledMind 02-13-21 05:42 AM

I am adding a point, because it's not political.
It's not about any cause or ideology or principle for a (or any) big company. Otherwise Disney wouldn't have thanked the authorities of Xinjiang (or filmed there for that matter).
It's always, and always, about protecting their assets (stars or fans). In this case Carano is expendable compared to the fans.

I'm not trying to suck up to you or anything Iro, but I literally reached for the remote and almost shut it off after the big "reveal". At least we'll always have that heartwarming movie with Luke drinking the green booby milk to keep us warm on a cold stormy night, eh?

Iroquois 02-13-21 06:03 AM

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

At least that keeps in the stupid-weird-messy spirit of Star Wars more so than a good chunk of the recent stuff that's a little too focused on pleasing as much of the fanbase as possible - it's part of why I've never truly gravitated to Mandalorian itself no matter how many fan favourite characters or magnetic prestige-TV presences it brings to the table each episode.

Like tonight?

I hope we don't lose power. That wind is going through my body.

Right? Pretty crazy little storm eh?

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

I don't think she'll be missed, not much of a character or actress if you ask me.

Yea the Luke scene makes me more annoyed the more I think about it (The Mandalorian one). Like a half assed apology for TLJ, with morally questionable CGI faces, though Hamill was on board with it.

I hope ultimately the Mandalorian branches out into a sort of expanded universe story, Luke Han Leia again. I would prefer TV rather than movies too.

I don't want Kenobi or Cassian Andor prequels.

Yeah, I checked out as soon as he hit the screen. I let it slide when Mando removed his helmet to develop the plot/character but that Luke bs had me in stitches. I just can’t take any of it seriously now.

Yes, I'm sure we'd all love to always have the last word. That's why you nip it in the bud.

I'm gonna make the really charitable assumption here by saying people might not have understood "please stop here" was actually not a suggestion, and it's not cool to take parting shots past that point. If someone feels I cut things off at some point that's somehow unfair to their general POV, they can PM me about it, at which point I'll almost certainly be able to show them a half-dozen examples where discussions were cut off with them or theirs getting the last salvo off.

I appreciated that it was done as well as it was... but I admit I kept staring at that weird mouth formation because it wasn't. quite. right.

I finished up the final episodes last night. I was stunned by the reveal. Technology is amazing.

Just finished watching the first episode of season 3. In previous episodes he had taken his mask off and now he's out to redeem himself. I loved it.

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

I might have missed some connecting plot points in Boba Fett, but this looks like another case of writers lacking foresight by having Grogu go on a different path only to realise without him they have no show so he's back with Mando......

Yeah, it's kinda nuts how they're willing to just assume people were/are watching both shows. Oof.

lol, sorry, but I can't tell if this is agreeing with the above comment or a bit of a playful jab! Full disclosure, I had no idea there was a new season for Mandalorian, so all context is lost on me at the moment. I do not remember finishing Book of Bobba Fet. Was that the series with the stylish teen cyber/biker gang? I think that's about where I left off, if so. Honestly, my memory is crap the last few years so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm blending scenes from Star Gate at this point. =\

Anyway. My meaning in all this is to ask if there was actually a plot point within that series (or another?) that explains Grogu's return here? Or is that explained in the new season of the Mandalorian? No need for spoilerish details for others following this thread. Just curious where that redirect falls and in what series.

Yoda 03-02-23 10:39 AM

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

Not a jab, it's nuts to expect people to watch another show without any clear indication they need to do so to follow along with the first show's basic plot beats. Especially when the first show is the big hit and the other show is, presumably, significantly less popular.

And no, I don't think Grogu's return is explained except for in Boba Fett. And it's not even clear from Boba Fett that it's just going to turn into The Mandalorian halfway through, anyway. I almost stopped watching, and then that happened. Bizarre.

ynwtf 03-02-23 10:50 AM

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

Oh wow. Ok, thanks for the details. I really don't remember finishing the Book of Bobba Fet, so figured I just missed some obvious side plot there. In that context, I can totally agree.

Yoda 03-02-23 10:54 AM

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

I'm not sure of the specifics, but I think the first couple episodes were just its own thing (and fairly meh), and then Mando shows up and takes over in episode 3 or 4 or something. And it's quite good! It's basically, as one TV critic described it, season 2.5.

Sounds like I did the right thing swearing off these shows. Writers be pulling their hamstrings.

Yea, also who sits down in a meeting and decides that it would even be a good idea to give a mysterious side character like Boba Fett their own show.

The shit show rolls on.

There wasn't anything in the new season of Mandalorian to explain Grogu's return. It's messed up that they blended the show with Boba Fett. No matter. I like Grogu. He's a cute little fellow.

WHITBISSELL! 03-02-23 04:18 PM

There was an online article somewhere that explained why they took that abrupt detour in BoBF. It was a logical explanation but yeah people need to watch it for continuities sake. I just watched the premiere and it looks like it will follow the same beats as previous seasons. Mando undertakes a quest followed by a buttload of side quests.

Mesmerized 03-17-23 10:28 PM

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

I just finished watching episode 3. I hated it. Or most of it. The bulk of the show focuses on characters that have nothing to do with the Mandalorian and at some point I almost forgot what the hell I was watching. I had to check the title of the show twice to see if I was watching something else.

Haven't started it. Friend seems really into it, but then I see that gif and wonder.

MovieMeditation 04-07-23 08:30 PM

I finally made the most important decision of my viewing habits a few months back…

I said screw FOMO and screw these assembly-line productions that I’m wasting my precious time on. And I stopped actively following Marvel. Star Wars. DC. And I guess you could say Disney in general…

Best decision I ever made. Haven’t felt such relief in a long time. I simply realized I wasted too much time watching mediocre or bad stuff just because it was popular and/or connected to something else. Even the stuff I sort of enjoyed I didn’t really enjoy enough to actually make it all worth it. So I stopped. Haven’t looked back since. Doesn’t mean I won’t ever watch anything in that category again. But I’m not actively following along anymore.

I enjoyed parts of Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 okay, but haven’t really felt the urge to watch season 3. Haven’t had the urge to watch something like She-Hulk either. Or Black Adam. Or Shazam 2. Or that Guardians Holiday special. Or Ant-Man 3. Or whatever else in that ballpark.

I wish for the future that we one day walk away from this multiverse and connected universe stuff. I miss just enjoying a movie or a show and not having to watch 15 films and 3 tv shows to enjoy something. Or to know what happens next...

Re: The Mandalorian (Star Wars)

Apart of the perpetual side-quest game-mechanic of the show, the dialogue is bad. Obviously, they wanted Black to be a sort of Goldblum/Grandmaster character, but he's written as someone vaguely whimsical and nice. The lines sound like something out of My Little Pony. You were bad, but you used to be good, so we will send you to the moon for a time-out!

Ima say it. I want Grogu dead. Violently dead. Crimson hamburger with green speckles dead. And Mando goes on a gory revenge streak rivaling Shogun Assassin. And then Mando dies. The. End.

WHITBISSELL! 04-08-23 08:14 PM

It has noticeably lost a step. I think even the diehard fans would agree with that.

And as far comic book movies go, I won't miss them if they just go away. Or at least take a sabbatical. It'll never happen though. There's no way they're turning their backs on that significant a revenue stream.

WHITBISSELL! 04-19-23 08:14 PM

I actually enjoyed the season 3 finale.
