Personally, I am a really big fan of new age zombie movies, so other than 28 Days Later i thought Resident Evil was scary too. But overall, the scariest thing I have ever seen was the horrifying endind of Blair Witch Project.
|
I thought the original TCM was very scary, but I'm frightened more by things of the unknown so I'd have to go with "Signs" as well, or maybe "Fire in the Sky".
|
Blair Witch was not scary to me at all. The whole runny-nose-in-the-flashlight was actually quite funny.
I don't find much entertainment in slasher films, and have successfully stayed away from the Friday the 13th series (sequels 1 - 135). Nightmare on Elm Street was fair, the sequels were full of shoddy makeup. Freddy went from looking burnt to looking like an oozing blister. Scariest movie in terms of sheer FEAR? The Ring. I still have flashes of that darn little girl. Most disturbing? The Exorcist. Most Mind-Twisting? Clockwork Orange. |
In reply to T.H.U.G's
"Also, what was the answer to infection? I thought the soldiers had it!" there was no cure, you see the soldiers were getting restless so chris eccleston recorded a radio message saying they had the answer to infection, and promised them that women would come... cos as he put it "women mean a future" so in reality they were not really fighting for the good of mankind but just a bunch of glorified rapists :furious: |

ghostwatch
you can get it off of ebay (I think its the uk one so that'd be ebay.co.uk)
its a burnt copy so you'd need a pc to play it on, one of my mates had it and it wouldnt play on my ps2, xbox or dvd. It played on his cos his was **** hot and well pricey... if you can get it its well worth a look |

1-- The Shining 2-- The Amityville Horror. I think The Exorcist is very overrated. |
I was just glancing over the other replies... I see a lot of great movies mentioned... Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Fire in the Sky are two of my favorites.

I think the two movies that scared me the most were Pet Sematary and The Ring. Incredibly scary movies, that left me with images stuck in my head for nights!

I think the scariest movie I've ever seen was probably "Event Horizon". Not only is deep space a scary enough thing, but you add Sam Neill and a spaceship possed by hell into the mix, and you've got a movie that scares the crap out of me everytime I watch it.
|
i've been a freddy fan since i was a little kid. but hes not scary. im not really scared my horror anymore. all the good movies are old and their not scary anymore. i thought evil dead was SO funny adn the exorcist wasn't bad. the new texas chainsaw massacre made me jump. i like that one. it was probably only scary becuase it was true (or not if you dont beleive it was but i do).the ring was freaky not scary but i liked it pretty well. gothika looks good probably just becuase i like the whole goth thing (i wanted to see it before i knew waht it was about) but it looks good.
|
The Ring, really freaked me out actually.
but, yeah, I'd say The Exorcist is most disturbing. |
The Entity and The Exorcist still scare the crap out of me.

Most of the movies I get freaked out is old movies!
Most of the movies I get freaked out out of all old black and white movies like "And then there was None?" and "What ever happen to Baby Jane?"
the newest movies that kind of scared me was "The sixth sence" I did not go to sleep for a week it gave me the chills and I am a scared cat when it comes to horror movies so I don't watch them much. my twin sister watches them all the time and does not care but not me!See you around!JM   |
if you start watching more horror you'll kind of get "immune" and not be scared anymore
|
I'd go with The Eye as the scariest.
|
Scariest Movie
The scariest movie I have ever seen will have to be The Exorcist The first time I saw it I was just shocked to see such a scary movie. I almost turned off the television. Even though I was watching the movie with a couple of my friends, I was still scared to go to the bathroom. And I think the same thing happened with my friends :scream:
|
im sure the exorcist was scary when it came out but i just saw it recently so it wasnt that bad
|
The Shining (Nicholson) scared the living crap out of me the first time I saw it
|
The first movie I had seen that scared me as a kid would have been Alien. The most recent movie that I thought was pretty freakin' scary was Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That scared the sh*t out of me!
|
the new one? i LOVE that movie. cant stop talking about it. i jumped so many times even after i'd alreadyseen it. it was cool because my dad lived an hour awayfrom where it happened (and i know some people dont think it was real but it was put in the papers so i dont know)
and about theshining, yes that was REALLYgood and scary. i loved thatone too. theremake of it wasnt half as good |

Kubrick did an absolutely superb job of scaring the bejesus out of you, but the remake had more backstory, and that's what I like about it. It fleshes out more things so you have a better understanding of why Jack went crazy. But that's my opinion. |

No kiddin' on both movies. Alien was great, and TCSM was about the scariest movie that I've seen, for making you jump. OMG, I was so paranoid during that movie, because every five seconds you'd get scared the crap out of. |
i saw TCM the day after halloween and im still talking nonstop about it. i dont think the older one was as good. i think the characters died off too quick or something. i just wasnt scared at all. maybe it was because i started off watchign it skeptically. i did like the one son that wasnt leatherface. anyway....point is, the new TCM is scary.
|
Here are mine....(no specific order):
1. The Ring 2. Poltergeist 3. Nightmare on Elm Street 4. The Blair Witch Project 5. The Excorcist 6. The Shining 7. The Eye 8. Alien |
The remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was good. But I can't say that it was good enough to beat the 1974 film. TCM is in my top 5 horror list movie for the year.

[quote=led_zeppelin]Great list man. Except for. . .Nightmare on Elm St. I guess the only reason that I wasn't scared, is because I'm basically. . ."immune", if you will. (i sound sophisticated huh?) The scares didn't affect me at all...QUOTE]

Scariest Movie
Well, I must say that all the usual answers, "The Exorcist" , "The Blair Witch Project", etc etc... all those movies put me to sleep or didn't scare me. They provided me a few hours of entertainment, but no chills. What actually scared me and I wouldn't go up to my room and didn't want to move is when I was watching the first part of Boris Karloff's "Black Sabbath". The first part where the lady steels the ring off the old heiress's dead hand. That freaked me out. The end of "The Ring" was creepy, but watching it again put me in another nocturnal mood.

I have a question for all you horror lovers, or should I say my other half has.

Scary Stuff
I'm not really into 'boo' type scares, the films that affect me the most are the disturbing ones.
Event Horizon (very bloody and horrifying) Pet Sematary (Zelda is WAY ill) The Exorcist (just wrong, but good) Requiem for a Dream (this is scary stuff, because it happens daily) Alien (great suspense) I guess it depends on when you saw a movie and where you were (physically and mentally) at the time. For instance I saw Halloween when I was a child and it scared the hell out of me and was definitely not something for an 8 year old to be watching!!! Cheers |
Event Horizon (very bloody and horrifying)
Unfortunately there aren't any movies nowadays which can scare me, because of the whole "only a movie" thing which is a shame really. |
When I first watched Seven at the cinema (when I was 17), It played on my mind for ages, really gave me the creeps.

evil dead 2 was funny

Yeah, that's THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE you're refering to. I caught up with it only recently and it *does* have quite a few unnerving moments. Another goodie is the Canadian BLACK CHRISTMAS made back circa '74 with Superman's girlfriend Margot Kidder... A really good little frightner with some genuinely chilly moments... John. |

There is no way I could narrow it down to one movie that is the scariest. There are so many good one's out there.

You people are messed up!!! How can you possible say that movies such as The Others, Session 9, Psycho, The Evil Dead (I'm not saying nothing about Army of Darkness, thats the best comedy i've ever seen) and stupid crap like exorcist 3 are scary? All my friends encouraged me to see the others. ok.. after about an hour i lost all interest in the movie. can someone PLEASE name ONE SCARY SCENE in that movie? Then Session 9. Heres the plot. People come. Nothing happens. Movie ends. I cant believe i skipped school to watch that crap. And you'd have to be a 90 year old geezer to find psycho scary. i found it kind of funny at some parts. i yet have to watch rosemary's baby, but im not sure if thats any good. my friend got me exorcist 3 DVD. Seriously, how damn stuipd do you have to be to get scared by a grandma srwaling on the roof. boo-hoo, baby. watch the first exorcist, that will make you **** your pants. as for movies like halloween, friday 13th, and nightmare on elm street, i dont think those ever meant to be scary. they are just those movies you watch where they trick you into popping a boner when some hot chick ges unddressed, and then suddenly loose it becase the killed chops her head off. That's pure entartainment, not scary. That's why Freddy vs. Jason ruled.

Maybe one. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had a few surprises, nothing too scary. Don't know why people bragged about how they couldn't sleep for weeks after seeing that.

A few surprises?! Oh c'mon, are you talking about the newest one? If so, that movie did nothing but make you jump! Now I'm not saying I couldn't sleep for weeks, I slept just fine. 1) When the first guy goes in the house and get killed by Leathface (he was watching the tv and leatherface came up behind him.) 2) The vey end when the girl was in the car and all of a sudden Leatherface comes out of nowhere and attempts to stop the car by smashing it with a chainsaw. Well, not smashing, but he did try to stop it. The only scene that will forever haunt my mind and give me the creeps is Regan doing the crabwalk down the stairs. Everytime I go outside when it's dark I tend to run because I think she's doing 50 km/h behind me. |
Black Christmas
How about Black Christmas with Karen Black.
Freaked me out when the cop Carl Malden was on the phone and told Karen that the they traced the call of the guy who was stalking her and the call was from in the house! |

Scared the crap outta me when I first saw it. Probably my favorite movie involving aliens. On a psychological level, Session 9 was kind of scary. |
I was so disapointed at the ending of blair witch, "hey look theres a creepy house lets go in! hey lets go down to the basement!" "oh no im dead for some reason" i didnt get it.

I don't know what movie I think is the scariest, but Thir13en Ghosts (the new one) was pretty damn scary, and so was House on Haunted Hill... the first couple of times i've watched it...
Devil's Advocate was pretty creepy... my brother gets s**t scared at Event Horizon, and won't let me watch it, which is pretty hilarious... and he thinks that se7en is scary too... hee hee... I thought the exorcist was scary when i first watched it, but now i watch it all the time when i go to my friend's house... umm.... the trailer for dawn of the dead scared the f*** outta me! when i think of other ones that have given me nightmares, i'll tell you... |

I can only imagine how people must've died from shock at the time. It was a cheap shot to Bram Stoker, but at least we know the truth now. And this movie was excellent. http://www.cosmomovieawards.com/2003...es/gothika.jpg This movie was a pretty hardcore suspense-fest. I heard it was cliche or whatever, but all I knew is that their were about 50 moments that had me on the edge of my seat and scared. This is the best surprise thrilller I've seen. http://www.sonyclassics.com/spider/images/poster.gif This movie was more interesting than scary, their was no jump at you scary moments. For some reason, the ending still resonates in my mind as not scary, but just gut wrenching. We clearly see a man who suffers from extreme psychological stress and confusion and you feel sorry for him even after he commits some pretty harsh deeds. I still think about this movie today. http://www.cinemaclock.com/images/dv...ula__1979_.jpg This is the first Dracula movie I saw which is probably why I like it so much. My first introduction to goth/vampires/Dracula. From what I can tell, this is one of the best adaptations of Bram Stoker's book. http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/i...ear_window.jpg I love the cinematography, the way the movie flows, and the suspense. I didn't like the end parts as everyone quotes as bieng so classic, what I was absolutely horrified by was the scenes where the man was in the dark, smoking a ciggarrette, was he looking at you? Was he looking at a victim? What was he doing? We didn't ****ing know, and that is what I found so scary about this movie. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...x-Jaws_DVD.jpg Thought provoking to the extent of realizing that sharks aren't nice people. Especially if they can tear through a boat. I didnt' care about the acting, the plot, or the plight of the people of the town. The only thing I cared about was the next time I would decide to swim in the ocean. http://www.animefringe.com/magazine/...iews/2/pic.jpg Part of why I love this movie is because I can watch it, in it's aged state, and still love it. I can still prefer the original to the hip action movie Bloodlust. But, as far as horror goes, much like the original Nosferatu, this relies on imagery and emotion. While this movie is more setting than it is action, their were some honestly creepy parts to it. This is currently my favorite Dracula spin off that's not based on Bram Stoker. http://www.angelfire.com/film/postnu...ray%20eyes.jpg Worst dialogue/acting in the history of the universe. Ghastly story. This movie NEEDS to be remade, and with the original intended ending. Even so, the eyes are the most ghastly thing I've ever layed eyes upon. I still picture these eyes looking at me. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/07...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Another movie that suffered from pre-modernization, yet still incredibly scary. Perhaps the most shocking come out of nowhere scene ever. Don't know what I'm talking about? See the movie, ignore the cheese, and focus your mind, it will be great. http://movies.nnov.ru/Covers/Wicker%20Man,%20The.jpg The middle is filler, but you get some insights into possible Pagan Culture. The movie is left wide open for you to translate. But, as anyone who has seen the movie knows, it is about the ending. The scariest ending, since, well, in my opinion, ever. http://www.moviemalls.com/papers/exorcist-640x480.jpg Scary, Scary, Scary. Much like the first time I saw true evil wtih Dracula (1979), this movie gave me a serious case of fear. More what if it happened to me? Then what if I was there with someone else. I don't think it's overrated if I curl up into a fetal position every time I see the damn movie. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg While not scarier looking than Max Shreck in nosferatu. Bela Lugosi puts a voice on evil, and that is what makes this a better movie. Also, Bram Stoker gets credit. http://www.kerrsmith.ws/gallery/albu...n/final001.jpg Why this is the only movie I've ever left in the beginning I still cannot concieve. In repeated viewings it's really not that scary. But I still have to mention it if this is the only time I couldn't stomach something on the big screen. Notable mentions: 28 Days later, AlienS, Fatal Attraction, Jeepers Creepers, Dracula (1992), Nosferatu (1979), Phantom of the Opera, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, The Forgotten, Escape from new York, Se7en, Psycho (both versions), and (don't laugh) So I married an Axe Murderer. Well, I hope I haven't been too much of a jerk for posting this long crap. |
GOTHIKA????? WTF lol....and I did laugh at so I married an axe murderer...it's a comedy!!!!
Like I've said before, the only movies to scare me were EVIL DEAD NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET "the classics" |

Like I've said before, the only movies to scare me were EVIL DEAD NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET "the classics" So I murdered an axe murderer was scary the first time I saw the killer, especially since it wasn't ****SPOILER******* his wife ***SPOILER*******. And the murderer was pretty crazy as well. As for YOUR choices, Evil Dead wasn't scary at all, and neither was Nightmare on Elm Street. Especially with NOES, I don't like Wes Craven (exception New York) and it wasn't scary at all. I wouldn't consider those movies classic, except for Evil Dead, which has alot of hardcore cult followers. |
The mere fact that you think GOTHIKA was scarier then the EVIL DEAD makes your whole post inane.
NOES was scary for me probably because the atmosphere in which I watched it. In a cabin in the middle of the woods near a lake. It was 2:00 AM, so it was pitch black and I was sitting in front of a huge window, so I got the eerie feeling of something is behind me outside. Evil Dead definitly is scary, the possessed laugh of the girl sitting up in the middle of the floor. Altough seeing Halle Berry without MAKEUP did frighten me a little. |

Evil Dead was more action, it was intense, and I thought it was pretty good, but it just wasn't that scary. Gothika gave me the chills after i saw it, it is a difference of opinion really. |
action??????....okay....whatever.
and what can I say, my humour is my humour. |
