Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Gideon is notorious for not interacting with the forums or its members, so unless a PM was sent I wouldn't expect a list being sent. Also, I'm not sure but I have a hunch Gideon is a female or at least a female impersonator, just as I'm a male impersonator. The Gideon user name comes from the Roy Scheider character in All That Jazz, and he/she really likes musicals and romantic comedies, which I also like, at least the good ones. :)
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I've got Gideon's list. All is well.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Have you noticed that Gideon is always online when Sexy is offline....? :suspicious:
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I know that Gideon posted a ton of reviews at IMDb, but I don't recall what the user name was there. So, no Sexy methinks.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I don't think Sexy would ever create an alter-ego that actually talks about movies and doesn't ever really interact with other MoFos. His own ego would never allow it and there wouldn't be any point to it anyway.
|
He's definitely not SC. That would be the most pointless alter ego ever even more than Database Errol :p
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Sexy wouldn't dare 'lose' some posts by posting as other user unless it's for fun and really seldom.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Maybe it's JayDee.
This whole "I'm sick" thing with JayDee has got to be a lie. He's on another name. |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Is this the most lists one of these things has had?

I can't believe nobody's figured out that I'm Miss Vicky yet. How come nobody can tell that?

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Sexy has a room of 20 computers and is on as 20 different members at once.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Yes, the truth is out. I'm Sexy's slightly-less-bitchy alter ego.
|

sexy celebrity has been my alter account all along. please ban him, i have no use for it anymore.

OK, officially on the spreadsheet, we are up to 90 MoFos, and they should all be accounted for on the second page of this thread. I just got Yasashii and Daniel M's lists, which will make 92, but I haven't entered them, yet. I'll send you guys the notification message after I do that. I'm still at the office. Driving home, so there will be a gap for a while before I return online. I expect to have a bunch more ballots. Thanks, everybody. :) |
The Pink Panthers were hysterical. Not high enough on the greats list but the franchise deserves a mention.

Out of interest, what is the 70's equivalent of Europe's "The Final Countdown"?

I'm interested if more lists will equate to more greatness or more junk.

I think by having 90+, we won't see as much Asian. I'd be surprised to see more than 8 actually.

Case in point: http://www.angelfire.com/music6/walt...cs/Cries12.jpg Though of course everybody's definition of those terms varies to some degree. |

Nah, I'm talking junk as in "I've never even heard of that before, what the hell?". I'd assume I will have at least heard of most of these this time around.

I think we can all expect Cries and Whispers to make the list. Sorry raul.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Because you hate it. :p
|
Are there any Asian films that are definitely expected to make the list? I watched I think 3-Dersu Uzala, House, and The Castle of Cagliostro. I'm guessing none of those make it. What are the other big ones?
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I think it's a bit wrong to call something you've never heard of "junk." I think they're more like "opportunities for exploration." Which is not to say that they won't ultimately be something you hate, just that they shouldn't be dismissed simply because they are foreign to you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You are right as always.

I'd rather Dersu Uzala make it

Well we know The Castle of Cagliostro has 25 already, so it has a good start :p
|
Holden said it was gonna take a few days I think to get it all sorted. Course the way hes been attacking this he might have it licked before you finish reading this post.
What?! No love for The Apple Dumpling Gang?! http://www.impawards.com/1975/poster..._gang_ver2.jpg I was a little kid in the 70's :) |

I would expect a ton of Japanese movies in the 1950's and 1960's countdowns though. In the 1970's the most critically aclaimed Japanese film was Battles Without Honor and Humanity (1973) about the Yakuza: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...d_Humanity.jpg |

The 1960s list will allow me to fill in my lack of Oshima films

I'm surprised Brodinski didn't submit. He was online earlier today.

Damn just missed had a few movies to go!!!
|
This was my list bar 5 entries if anyone was interested... too bad
Chinatown 1 Star Wars Ep IV 2 Jaws 3 The Outlaw Josey Wales 4 Halloween 5 Rocky 6 Alien 7 Deliverance 8 Taxi Driver 9 The Spy who loved me 10 Bedknobs and Broomsticks 11 Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory 12 The Warriors 13 Dirty Harry 14 Close Encounters of the Third Kind 15 The Exorcist 16 One flew over the cuckoos nest 17 Mean Streets 18 The Deer Hunter 19 The Towering Inferno 20 |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
That's a good list. You should have moved your ass.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
You should've just submitted a top 20, then. Holden said previously that he would accept lists of less than 25.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Looks like an Asian movie just moved up higher.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Sorry, s1n1st3r. I caught you late. We'll give you plenty of warning for the 1960s list, whenever that winds up being due (probably early next year). And at least watch the reveal of the group list, see how many of your choices make it, and where they place.
Thanks! |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Damn, one away from 100 lists
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Forgot about the short lists being submitted.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
99? Bloody 'ell, good job Holden and MoFos!
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Yeah awesome job, a few weeks ago I think we were on like 30-40 lists and when Holden said he wanted 100 I thought he was crazy, but nope... incredible stuff and I can't wait for this to start :D
|
Same here, I thought Holden was dreaming shooting for that many. I think it has a whole lot to do with him that their is so much participation. Hats off to you, Holden.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
s1n1st3r has The Warriors on their list, though. That alone should mean it counts.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Normally I do not do "lists" it is usually too tough for me and then I re-think it and get mad for not having a certain film on there. This list was fun however and even though I am re-thinking a little already it brought up some good memories of growing up and made me want to watch some movies that I have not seen in a very long time.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
@ Minio - Not a fan of Chinatown?
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I rate it
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
99 Mofo lists on the wall, 99 Mofo lists.
This should be good. A great decade of film and a very large selection of lists. I expect a few surprises, but the larger number of lists could equate to the early favourites having a better chance. |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
You've officially got 100 lists now.
Just count my list as a joint list with my mother, Sexy Mommy. Since she's my mother, we've both seen the same '70s things and like them all equally. Just mark it off as "Sexy Celebrity / Sexy Mommy." Two people. So, congratulations. You got exactly 100 lists. YAY! |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I blame sleezy and brodinski for not making 100.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
The real question is who is going to be the Mystic River, Titanic, and Gandhi of this list and miss despite its popularity.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
None of you want to start seeing the reveal of the official list today, right? Just wait a few or five days? Let it all sink in?
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I want you to start ASAP.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Today would be awesome :D
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I would perhaps like to see a a couple films posted today... :D
|
Today would be fantastic.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
OK, sounds like everybody wants Monday. Night.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
If you don't start, they can always enjoy the rest of "Mother of The Godfather." My own '70s list. I haven't finished it.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I should be able to start sometime this afternoon. Should.
|

MoFos can be demanding. Holden cracking under the pressure. I managed two days between the deadline and starting the 80s countdown. :p

Until then, here is the traditional list of films that received exactly one point, and one point only. Sixteen movies that were somebody's number twenty-five choice...and that was it. Let's end the suspense for those folks right now.
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz The Concert for Bangladesh The Crazies Diamonds Are Forever Every Which Way But Loose Farewell, My Lovely Fat City The Fury Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo La Grande Bouffe The Lords of Flatbush Love at First Bite Meatballs Robin & Marian Summer City A Touch of Zen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EJvizCVEyc |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo was mine.
I must confess, I put it at #25 because I knew that the "One Pointers" list was the only way it was gonna get a mention. |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Farewell, My Lovely looks good, Cobpyth probably gave it the point. Shame I didn't get round to it but I guess it wouldn't have made a difference :D

Wait. Maybe I can't find out. IN CASE it appears on the actual list.
