Re: What is your favorite Martial Arts film? Favorite actors?
Actually, Jackie Chan has had his share of doubles believe it or not but only when he was injured and it got so bad he couldn't pull off the move himself. Granted, it is rare, but it's happened.
http://hkmdb.com/db/images/people/57...rLok-100-b.jpg One double in particular is Chin Ka-Lok, who believe it or not is currently the President of the Hong Kong Stuntman Association. In the film Dragons Forever, Chin is the one who does a slow-motion then undercranked double take of a tornado kick to Benny Urquidez after a slow motion shot of Chan using an elbow strike on Urquidez. Go to the 3:30 mark of the clip to see Chin double for Jackie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otBrY1jErXs Chin has also doubled for Andy Lau on a number of films during the mid-80s. Here's one bound to make people laugh. For the film Righting Wrongs (aka Above the Law), Cynthia Rothrock was doubled for some stunts by her own co-star Yuen Biao. She was also doubled by Hsiao Ho and Chin Yuet-Sang for pieces of her fight against Karen Sheperd http://www.onemorebullet.com/wp-cont...ve-the-law.jpg http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/68...+1986-74-b.jpg http://hkmdb.com/db/images/movies/68...+1986-75-b.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePUp8Yi3zH4 |
My favourite martial arts actor is Jackie Chan, and my favourite of his films is Project A.

Re: What is your favorite Martial Arts film? Favorite actors?
Jackie Chan for me is the king of martial arts films. His longevity with all those crazy stunts just boggles my mind. My favourite of his films is Police Story 2. But I love so many of his films, City Hunter is another favourite that I think is similar to the crazy comedies like the Naked Gun films. City Hunter also has a few shots in the end credits that shows Chan with his double (wearing identical clothes).
Other martial arts film actors I like are Mark Dacascos, Jet Li, Olivier Gruner, Cynthia Rothrock, Gary Daniels, Maggie Q and Jean Claude Van Damme. I also like a few of Steven Seagals earlier films. |
The Way of the Dragon, Legend of Drunken Master.
|
The original Drunken Master and its followup Legend of the Drunken Master are both top tier martial arts movies. The first Police Story is also amazing. Jackie Chan is probably the best martial arts performer of all time. But there's emphasis on 'performer'.
For for the best pure martial arts in movies, Bruce Lee is rightfully the king. Enter the Dragon and Fists of Fury are his peak. Tony Jaa did really impressive work in the Ong Bak series though. Deserves an honorable mention. |

Jackie Chan's whole career is walking into a construction site with 15 dudes in it then saying "I don't want no trouble!" and then beating the shit out of them with a mop or something after he's tied their hands together with his windbreaker.
And yes I enjoy that sort of thing. |

Re: What is your favorite Martial Arts film? Favorite actors?
Tough to really pick one. I don't get many of these in these days, but for the old Wushu stuff, I always liked Three Evil Masters and for the total absurdity of it, Shaolin Invincibles.
More contemporary, I enjoyed The Raid and Ong Bak. But of course, I must always and will always mention King of the Kickboxers as the most entertaining. The fighting is pretty damned good for an American martial arts film, and the acting is so legendarily bad, one can't help but laugh and have a great time while watching. I mean, just look at this stuff... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otWGlSSVE0E PURE GOLD! Loren Avedon is both an exceptional martial artist and perhaps the worst actor of all time. |

This is so 90s American Jackie Chan. Reminds me of Rumble in The Bronx. Which by the way is the worst JC movie ever.
Killer Meteors is his worst film. Even he says that. But you're right, generally his Asian films are better than the ones he made with American audiences in mind. |
I'm not a fan of martial arts movies, but I did like Revenge of the Ninja (1983)

He isn't the star in Killer Meteors, he's actually the main villain, and if memory serves, it wasn't a big part. He probably meant the Protector was his worst movie where he was the lead star. |

lol every single vhs cover i see of killer meteors has his name in big text and his picture plastered everywhere. completely ignoring wang yu jim. same goes as with brutal boxer. kinda funny how anyone is willing to watch a movie as long as jackie is in it for let's say, 5 seconds https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...jpg_UX261_.jpghttps://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...jpg_UX330_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...jpg_UX312_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/...jpg_UX335_.jpg |
Re: What is your favorite Martial Arts film? Favorite actors?
Also forgot to mention...some of the films by The Stunt People, who are a collection of stunt men and women that can't act/write for shit, but put out some of the best fight scenes ever put to film. Lots of hard contact and some of them look brutal.
Contour is a classic by these guys. This film is old, so the quality is crap, but one gets the idea of how bad ass these guys are. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QsW...D4C1A6&index=2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZp8...D4C1A6&index=3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJqF1sFDrRE |
