Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
There's some gems in both 1970 and 1978.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Just sorted out my list so far, not too difficult to narrow down to 25 as some of other people's favourites that will make the list already are more 7/10 films for me that I am happy to leave off. A few I'm unsure off and that I hope my decision doesn't affec too much, and then I plan on watching a few more films before the deadline too.

I'll play along

If it were not for the very early 80's this would be my favorite decade. It was a time that technologically induced cinematic awe, as well as emotional need.
Wish there was a 1975 to 1985 decade... ;) |

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I am interested in the in the top 5 - or I should say bottom 5.
20 to 25 should be interesting. |
OK, done ordering. What does it matter. All 25 are masterpieces!
Just sent my list! Choosing 25 films is easy peasy piece of cake, but ordering is much harder. I didn't pay much attention to it, to be honest. Just made sure one certain film is first. :) Also this decade was dominated by one certain director (three films of his on my list). In case you wonder, yes, there are English language films on my list! I could pick only foreign obscurities, but decided to once again complete a list of my true favourites, not just foreign films for the sake of it. Just the same thing I did with the 80s and 90s. If I counted correctly it's five English-speaking films out of 25 for me! One of them is pretty high leaving behind some true foreign masterpieces. I think that my list is pretty diverse as it contains a documentary, arthouse films, well-known films loved by general audience and an animation! It also has two Polish movies I'm pretty sure nobody else voted for! |

I warned you that my list would be unique. I'll bet I'm the only person here who has eight movies from 1979. :D

Remember:
1970: 23 (1 film) 1971: 40 (4 films) 1972: 29 (2 films) 1973: 39 (3 films) 1974: 37 (3 films) 1975: 45 (3 films) 1976: 13 (2 films) 1977: 34 (3 films) 1978: 28 (2 films) 1979: 22 (2 films) This also makes guessing my list easier, I think 1970 should be obvious |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I have 15 locks but I fully expect about 20 to make it. There's three that I would be happily surprised if they did, and two that potentially could.

My picks are divided as followed according to Bluedeed's method:

I thought this was a fun trend, so here's my list of years.
1970 - 2 1971 - 6 1972 - 3 1973 - 2 1974 - 2 1975 - 1 1976 - 2 1977 - 5 1978 - 1 1979 - 1 I didn't leave any year out. :D |

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
There was a lot of cheesey, not so great, more light hearted kind of movies I felt at the bottom end of the Eighties list. Whilst most of you will tell me I'm in the minority in my complaints here (I know a lot of people loved this), I really hope and think that for the Seventies we can get 100 proper great films, I would love for films I love to appear from the very start to the very end :D Such a fantastic decade, Sixties will be great too.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Okay, I'll do it. :D
1970 = 1 1971 = 5 1972 = 1 1973 = 4 1974 = 2 1975 = 2 1976 = 4 1977 = 3 1978 = 2 1979 = 1 |

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Finishing up now.
Geez--figuring out what actually goes on the list hasn't been too bad, but ordering the top 15 is incredibly hard. I'm looking at possible #1s as low as my current #8, and pretty much everything from 9-14 could go in any order. |
Sitting at eighty-four participants. There are now four hundred and nine different titles that have received at least one vote. Sixty-seven of them have at least a hundred points, and unless I get a lot more ballots at the end here than I anticipate, that means that all of them will make the list. Order to be determined. The bottom threshold now for making the cut and being part of the top one hundred is at sixty points. That means a film could have two first place votes, but if that's all it earns, it won't be enough to make our list. It's going to take three to five people supporting a title, at minimum, for it to make the cut. And wait until you see how many votes the films in the top tier are getting!
Let's finish strong, MoFo. Bring me your ballots. |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Alright, mine's in. Whew.

I'm pretty sure now that my #1 won't make the cut. :( |
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Yep, there goes my #2.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
That is why I'm confident that the list will be great, but it also concerns me about great films that not many have seen. I'm wondering how many Roeg and Altman films make it. Walkabout probably will but I'm not sure how many others love The Man Who Fell to Earth or Don't Look Now. Then with Altman, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Nashville and The Long Goodbye should make it easily, you'd think MASH would even though it divides opinion around here, but then I don't know about a handful of his lesser works that I've recently watched: 3 Women (quite likely to make it), Images, California Split and Brewster McCloud, I want to watch Thieves Like Us today too.

Have faith, dear readers. I'm not going to look up which titles you guys are speculating about, but I will say I think there are going to be lots of happy surprises and a very, very strong list.
Though it isn't done, yet! But from what I see, and the trends in voting....yeah, I think with this many precincts reporting, at this point I can call this one as going to be "pretty fu*kin' good". But I do recommend running one of these lists, sometime. The fun of watching you all squirm and willdly speculate is a hoot. And we've haven't even really begun, yet! http://www.movieforums.com/community...1&d=1405433258 |

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I've always thought about possibly putting myself forward to do a list, but I like not knowing what films are going to be on it and win, and I think I would be frustrated if I saw a film I loved just outside the 100 and not really being able to do much about it, would be so frustrating :D

I know everyone has their own criteria for choosing their list, and that's cool. I'm not sure I even know who directed all the films I picked. I'm hoping to see a diverse list rather than a tour through the works of certain favoured directors. Out of the ones mentioned above, I would have thought Don't Look Now has the strongest chance of making it, but you never know. (I may or may not have voted for one Roeg film but if so I'm not saying which one ;) ). I wouldn't have thought any of Altman's 'lesser works' stand a chance against Rocky, Grease and Jaws, but you never know. |

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Fassbinder completely ruled the 70s, much more significantly for me than Altman and Roeg, but few people here have seen more than two or three of his films. And none of his films made my list.
|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
More the opposite, they're my favourite directors of the decade because of the films they've made. Even your example George Lucas made Star Wars and American Graffiti (which I thought was great), so is one of the best directors of the decade. All the Roeg films I've ever seen are from the decade and I liked them all, same with majority of Altman. I won't be voting for his lesser films because of him, but I wish I could, they're the type of films that would be in my 25-50 range if I did a top 100. My list is diverse and has loads of directors - in fact right now I have 18 different directors.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I watched Fear Eats The Soul earlier today actually (I was meant to watch it a week or two ago but forgot), I liked it a lot. I kind of regret not exploring more from him, but there's so much more other directors I could say the same which I think is testament to how great the decade was.

|
Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
I have five directors with multiple films on my list but every single one of them also has films from the 70's that are way off my list. So while I understand you point Thursday, I don't exactly know what to do with the info. The fact that each of those directors have films I love and some I could care less about makes me think I have some discernment.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
Seems crazy but I'm more worried about hoping to see some of the films that barely missed the cut on my list making it then those on the fringe actually on my list. I don't want them to miss because of me!

I wouldn't be surprised if only 15 or 16 from my list make it into the 100.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the Seventies
And people, to make it easier on me, just before you send your list in, give it one more look see. Make sure that a) you actually have twenty-five films and haven't skipped a number, b) make sure you don't have the same film more than once. This has already come up three times, believe it or not. I am sure it is from last minute juggling of the order, not realizing you didn't delete the line....but it will make it quicker (and less embarrassing) if you catch it before you send in the list.
Thank you. :) |
I didn't get to watch nearly as many 70s films as I had hoped/planned to, but I didn't pay much attention to who directed what. I will say though that one director ended up with three entries on my list, with two of them scoring quite high.

Yes, again, please send the lists to me, in a private message. Do not publicly reveal your list until after the entire collective list has been revealed...which will be many weeks from now. But I appreciate the enthusiasm? :) http://media.giphy.com/media/3lDpWosdApQ5y/giphy.gif |

Just had a quick count up and I have four directors with more than one film in my top 25. But I wouldn't say I was a particular fan of any of them, as they all have plenty of other films which I don't like or haven't seen. |
I ended up with 23 different directors and I could see anywhere from 14 to 20 of my movies making it. I believe 3 of my movies will not get any other votes.
