08-08-09The beach sequence was awful. I thought when I first saw it at the start of the film that maybe they actually trained on the beach but by the end I realized it was only added to create some sort of dramatic importance/effect. I can't believe it won Best Score either, the 80's...bah! It seemed like a lot of running to me, and making it look good, and training scenes with the musical montage don't belong in a Best Picture winner (well maybe it does as the Academy has no clue). I never really felt the struggle and physical sacrifice it takes in order to be the best. Sure there were other sacrifices, but I was never convinced of Abrahams and his relationship or the rising above adversity of being Jewish, seemed pretty weak to me. The Scot had his moments, but in the end he chose not to run on the Sabbath and I was looking forward to seeing him and Abrahams race again. As for the other two guys, I don't even remember their names, little focus was on them, why even bother?
