I'm in total agreement with you there. Most films with narrators lay it on a bit thick like Mankiewicz's The Honey Pot ; or just trend the experience toward sentiment: In Bruges, Sunset Boulevard. With the case of The Honey Pot, it comes out to a delightful cinema experience, like Mankiewicz's is suggesting "hey, i'm not taking this too seriously." Dexter is a great show. I just finished season 6 and I'm really anxious to watch the 7th.

You know more about Claude Chabrol and Flaubert than I do. Haven't seen any one of Chabrols movies before, don't even know what movies he's made. I have yet to read Madame Bovary.

I only watched half of the movie last night, I was going to watch the rest today, but my new purchase of Dexter season five has postponed that. I'll probably watch the movie another day from the beginning again.

But one thing that annoyed me was the narrator, I think when it comes to movies I'm more into 'show don't tell'.
