Just saw Ionesco's Rhinoceros play in French. Basically endorsed the ideas I've been considering for a few months now, not to mention I understood a play in French.

I still would say it's fair to ascribe different philosophies to eras UP to this point if only for the mere, obvious reason that it had begun in one era and slowly amorphous'd up through the 20th century...but today idk man.

This seems like a fair starting point. What I'm really excited to do is compare Foucault's History of Madness and The People's History of the World and see if it's basically the same book, but one written more from a mordant distance.

I've been feeling the same way. I also don't know where to start. There are many histories too. Most of the western history I 'know' is taken from philosophy, so it's heavily simplified into just the classical period (Greeks), modernity (Enlightenment), and postmodernity (Nietzsche, the present). Medieval times are typically taken as a 'regression' into obscure theology. Learning history is definitely important if you want to get at 'truth,' since different times have different overriding concepts about the world, and you've got to somehow get around those biases, and the only way to do that is by looking at how people thought differently. You could say different times have different philosophies, but even that's questionable, since, for example, today in postmodernity we like to understand almost every philosopher throughout history as a pragmatist, cause that's our bias.
