View Full Version : 8 1/2
Okie doke... I watched this a few days ago and am curious as to why everyone regards it as one of the finest films ever made? I thought Fellini's tracking shots and the fluidity of his camera work were fantastic, but that's about it. Of course it doesn't help that I'm not completely sure what was happening. The best I can figure is that Guido became disillusioned with his current sci-fi project and wanted to create something with meaning, but was unable to assimilate all of the unique characters surrounding him into a coherent narrative. Is this correct?
Also, was Adaptation inspired by 8 1/2 at all? The basic concept for each film seemed similar.
I liked 8½, but I also think its overrated.
I also wonder how much Federico Fellini was influenced by Last Year at Marienbad (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054632/).

Argh. I took it out from the library a week ago but my DVD player kept fluctuating the brightness on this and the last few films I've tried to watch on it. In the end it was so annoying that I didn't even feel like finishing the film. I saw it once before about 9 years ago but don't remember it at all. Looked really good from what I saw last weekend.

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one. Slayton and others have already taken me to task in another thread ;)

No I didn't. I said I'd like it if you commented again after a few more viewings.
I wanted to kick you in your jewels for a whole slew of other movies you decided to watch. :)
What'll really piss you off is realizing I gave 8 1/2 the same grade as such illustrius films as: Big Daddy, Coneheads, The New Guy, Freaky Friday, Rambo III, and Legally Blonde 2 :D
