Well, I certainly like it better than the Rod Stewart original. To be honest, Revco's a band I can only take in small doses, I like the singles best. Crackin' up and Physical are the high points for me. Have you ever heard Ministry's other side project, Lead into Gold? It's excellent.
Speaking of Rod Stewart, I'd like to add the blind casio-family's cover of Young Turks, from Winners and Sinners to my list. Vast improvement on the original and one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

I understand what you mean about taking Revco in small doses.
Like the other version of (Let's Talk)Physical where all they say is "talk!" for almost fourteen minutes!
I haven't heard Lead into Gold.
That's Paul Barker's side project right?
Have you heard Lard?

Aye, I've indeed heard Lard, though I don't own the Lard album. Actually all of this stuff on Ministry and related projects is from memory, it's been quite a few years since that stuff was on regular rotation on my player.
Lead into Gold was, I think mainly Paul Barker, and I recall Age of Reason being a really great album, but it used to be pretty rare.
Actually I kind of like the ten minute version of Lets get Physical (and dig this - the single of that song has a different extended version, which is also just a looped sample, but a different looped sample!) The stuff I really find hard to stomach is the really embarrasingly cheesy humor Revco often delves into, like the last track on Linger Fickin' Good.
And you've actually got me listening to Big Sexy Land now, it's been quite a while. :)

I had Sinéad O'Connor's Throw Down Your Arms on repeat for what seemed like months when it first came out. Unlike most of her earlier covers (slow it down, take out so much of the instrumentation that it's practically a capella) these are pretty faithful to the originals but differ in one important aspect - That wonderful voice.

Dave Edmunds is so terrific that I never think of his albums as "cover" albums even if most of them basically are. His work with Rockpile (Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams) is the apex of his career, and my personal fave is Repeat When Necessary, an almost flawless album which showcases Edmunds' spectacular arrangements, production, vocals and guitar work. Every song is a winner.

That's a crock too. I can find Sebastian Cabot songs on YouTube, but I can't find one decent version of any of the songs from Repeat When Necessary.
Well, except for these, but none of them sound as good as the actual record which is a good argument for listening to vinyl vs. digital.

Oh, that's just the tip of the iceberg! I once nearly got a radio DJ sacked over a Marc Almond song. ;)
Y'see, I have a friend who works in local radio in Southport, Merseyside (Almond's home town and where I was living at the time) and he once asked for some songs about the town which he could play on his show. If my memory serves me correctly, the B side to Jacky is a song called A Love Outgrown, which is about Southport.
I told my mate about this and lent him the single - The eejit played it that night without listening to it first. The song is about how sh*t Southport is, something which could be gleaned from the title by someone with half a brain.
Cue a barrage of listener complaints and a swift on-air apology. :D
Aaanyway, back on topic in a highly camp fashion!

Thelma Mae Joseph - I'm Still In Love With You (Excerpt) (http://mp3.mondomix.com/player.php?oid=131745&otype=1&olng=en)
Recorded in the laundry of Angola Prison, Louisiana in the late 50s. (The sample loops in way which highlights her being slightly off-key at times, which is a bit jarring here, but almost works in the song's favour in full).

I didn't realize this was a cover until I watched Brief Encounter. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037558/)
http://www.wymondham-station.com/users/www.wymondham-station.com/upload/brief_encounter_film_still.jpg
I couldn't figure out why the music sounded so familiar.
When I did, it didn't make sense.
How did a film from 1946 feature a song from 1975?
I found out it was Rachmaninoff.
Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Opus 18 Adagio Sostenuto

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtAPAzfz6Uo&start=70s
They don't do a huge amount different from classic versions, mainly just keeping it uptempo and changing the lyrics all around, from what i can tell. (They seem to be singing about 'youth' for some reason). Still, a decent take on a class track :)

Man, the best cover song I've ever heard in my life was one of Ozzy's. I forget the name of the band that did it but they did 'No More Tears'. It was absolutely insane. You know the cool guitar riff they repeatedly play in it after each of the opening lyrics like the beginning "The light in the window is a crack in the sky" *guitar riff*. Well this band played it real freakin slow and evily heavy. It was completely bad-ass.
I think the band was Atreyu Aternus or something like that.

This is cheesy as all sh*t, but hey, it's latin. And with all possible hat tips to the maestro that is Mr Wonder, I think I may even prefer it to the original. Jose Gonzalez and The Knife (anon remix) - Heartbeats (Stream) (http://hypem.com/#/track/166197/Jos+Gonzlez+and+The+Knife+-+Jos+Gonzalez+och+The+Knife+Heartbeat)
On a totally different vibe, I like Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats (even tho it was saturating the airwaves for a while). And I like the off-kilter 80s-throwback original by The Knife even more. But one thing I really love is this anonymous lo-fi nethead version which blends the two in an almost seamless sea of aural fuzz (despite, or perhaps because of, the background sounds of washing machines and chat boxes popping up)

And just to jump decades/genres again, I've never heard the French original, but you've gotta rate the seventies showmanship and devilish dedication in this live performance.
This is more 'mashup' than cover, and more 'worst' than best, but endearing with it. Impromptu matching of lyrics to different songs, from Radio 4 comedy show 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'...
