So I went to purchase the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre dvd and found there to be 2. There was the original, and the "Special Edition". After reading the back of both boxes I discovered that the only differences between the original TCM dvd and the SE dvd were the box the dvds came in and the amount of money I would have to give to own one of them. They both had the same exact aspect ratios... sound options and extras.

I looked around the internet a bit and discovered that the French dvd has a couple of documentaries not found on the American discs. It also has a 4.0 sound track whereas the American discs have only a mono track and a 2.0 stereo track. Furthermore, the German release of the dvd is anamorphic, while the American discs are not. Lastly there are two interviews on the UK disc which are not on either of the American discs.

SO! That's quite a bit of interesting stuff that we yanks are missing out on. Has anyone heard of an upcoming Ultimate Edition release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Or can anyone tell me who I might contact to find out if such a disc is ever going to be produced?

Heh...so get this... I found a site that lists links to all the distribution companies of DVD's, right? I think it was www.dvdfile.com or something. And so... Pioneer Entertainment is the company who put out Texas Chainsaw Massacre... so I click on Pioneer and it takes me to www.geneonanimation.com

Hmmmm... so I guess Pioneer was taken over by an anime company. I do a search for TCM and up it comes...it's still in their library. Ok. So I decide to contact them and ask them if they're planning on releasing an Ultimate Edition. I go to their contact page and all that's listed there is their snail mail address. No email. No phone. They have a website... but no E-MAIL! *cries*

I actually have to use a pencil and paper? I think I've forgotten how.

Buy the region 2 version. It has a 72 minute documentary "The Shocking Truth", new director and crew interviews, 16 page collectors booklet, full length commentary featuring director Tobe Hooper, director of photography Daniel Pearl and actor Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface). Also contains, deleted scenes, alternative footage, outtakes, original theatrical trailers, original tv ads, sequel trailers, stills, posters and lobby cards.

I hate the new 1974 TCM cover art. Thank God I bought my TCM DVD in 1999, when the cover art looked like this:
