Coming from a fan like me of Halo, Red vs Blue brings a dawn in a new age in both cinema and video games. For the cinema aspect of it all, the crew plugged their Xbox's up to their computers via a capture card, and later on, with the help of their scripts, they added their voices, sound effects, and different other special effects. This type of filmmaking for any of you who are curious, is called machinima- using a video game and the characters that it has in it in order to make a movie.

With its original comedy and funny catch phrases (Cockbite!), the web series has fans like me,, who could be outside throwing a football or trying to find a girlfriend, drooling over their keyboards every Sunday, waiting for a new episode. And don't think they download every episode and burn them onto a DVD so that they don't have to wait on their friends old 56K modem to show them an episode- Rooster Teeth Productions have already released seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, and you can either pick them up at your local GameStop or you can order them online at the site's web store.

With Season 3 already on the web, and changing the atmosphere from Halo 1 to Halo 2, the team at Rooster Teeth have quite a funny (and very interesting) storyline going along, probably one of the better originals that I've ever seen.
First taking place in a dead canyon called Blood Gulch, Season 1 of the web series introduces the characters and the dilemma in which surrounds them all. The series, just in case you were wondering, all occurs between the events of Halo and Halo 2, which makes sense when you think about it. In Blood Gulch, their are two bases, or outposts: Blood Gulch Outpost Alpha (which is controlled by the Blues) and Blood Gulch Outpost Number 1 (which is controlled by the Reds). No team really knows how or why they got to Blood Gulch, but they each share one prime objective: kill the other team. So, a slow (but very funny) battle begins.
The Reds, the more technically advanced team, consist of Sarge, Simmons, Griff, Donut, and their robot, Lopez. They also have come equipped with a Warthog (which Griff cannot understand why it's called that. I think it looks more like a puma.) that has a machine gun equipped with it. Sarge sounds just like and acts just like any other seargent in the army- a thick southern accent and "a boner for murder". Simmons, the teacher's pet of the Reds, sticks up to Sarge, and it comes with great rewards (which he would later on live to regret) while Griff is more or less Sarge's punching bag for insults and next-to-impossible missions. And Private Donut, the only person on the team to wear pink armor (or light red as he calls it) gets himself confused for being a female rookie by Sarge. And as for Lopez, well, he doesn't say much- in English, that is. While installing a device that enabled Lopez to talk, Sarge fried it and Lopez was then stuck in only speaking one language- Espaņol, which confuses the Reds like no tomorrow.
Now for the Blues, well, their team consists of Church, Tucker, Caboose, a freelance soldier named Tex, and a tank named Sheila. Church is the leader of the Blues with an attitude problem and takes no liking to anyone, even to a big degree, his teammates. Tucker is just... there. His main goal in life is "to get a chick" and get laid ASAP. And as for Caboose, well, he starts out smart, but after team killing Church in an event to destroy the Reds and their Warthog, well, his mentallity and IQ start to drop. Also coming in for the Blues is a freelance soldier named Tex, who actually happens to be one hell of a soldier, equipped with one bad ass AI named O'Malley... and Church's girlfriend. And as for the tank named Sheila, Caboose falls in love with her, but after seeing her get destroyed after the Reds call in an air strike, he is determined to bring her back. And even though Church is dead and he comes back as a spirit and helps the Blues get back on track and he makes Tex fix their tank, he decides to go the Reds and tell them not to destroy Tex because he stills loves her but he doesn't want her to die with the evil AI inside of her. But it's too late- a plasma grenade is launched, hits Tex in the chest while she's in the tank, and blows her up. Church, in Lopez's body, runs to her side, and she tells him that the AI is gone, and that it left her body just in time. Bare in mind that even though that's mainly the main storyline for Season 1 and I told it from the Blue's perspective, the Reds have their fair share of laughs and whatnot as well.
Which brings us to Season 2...
Season 2 opens up with the premiere of a new character, Frank DuFresne, who would later on be re-named to "Doc" because of the fact that he's a field medic. Times have changed, but not by a lot- Church still has control of Lopez's body (which is now painted blue) and with the help of Tucker and Caboose, he can now speak English (when Church first took over Lopez, he could only speak in Spanish). Tex is dead, buried alongside Church's body, and Caboose keeps making mean death threats to Tucker behind Church's back. Doc comes, finds out about the current situation, and is about to go to the Red's base when the Reds in fact come and start attacking the Blue's (which ends soon because Griff forgets the extra ammo). Soon a negotiation is made, and Doc is traded to the Reds in turn that the Blues live. Doc goes with the Reds, but isn't accepted. Meanwhile, back at the Blue base, Tex comes back as a ghost, and tells them that O'Malley had left her body before the grenade had landed on her, and that it went into the body of Caboose (hence all of the death threats). Since Season 2 has a lot more action and storyline revealings in it, I'd rather not spoil it for you all, but bare one thing in mind... the ending in Season 2 does end in a semi cliffhanger. I'll say no more!
So, there you have it. My review for Red vs Blue. Bare in mind that when Season 3 wraps it up, I'll come back and write up my review for it (that is, if I can remember it or if I'm not already banned by then). Hoped you all enjoyed my first review... it's a kadoozie. Anywho, be sure to check out the episodes and DVD's if you can, they are very well worth it, especially if you're a Halo fan. But hey, if you were a Halo fan, then you'd already know everything and anything about Red vs Blue ( :) ).
