For the first time in American history, The American Big three have have dipped below 60% of their marketshare, nationally. As a matter of fact, the American Car companies conjointly have been losing on an average 1.3 % of their market share annualy for the past decade. Some say it's because it's inevitable for more and more people to turn to an alternative. Others say it's because it costs The Big Three more money to build a car on the average. As a matter of fact, it costs the Big three roughly 3,000 dollars more to make a car than the Japanese car companies and are also put out slower. This has always been a problem since The Japanese big three (Toyota, Nissan and Honda) have always been exempt from guaranteeing pensions and keeping open the concideration of Unions.
Japan has been able to use this to their advantage, making more money individually than any of the American Big Three lately. In fact, Toyota's sales alone increased 9.4 % in US market share this year. Toyota also has beaten out ford and now holds the title of Second Largest car manufacturer in the world, with a margin of roughly a half-million cars.
This is tough to recover from and Ford has not lately been the most flexible car company on the market.
Experts of the American Auto industry have said the best way for the American car companies to get out of this is to just simply sell a hell of a lot more cars. That would pretty much clear up the borrowing of money, the loss of net income, the hard-bearing incentive plans and the cutting of jobs. It would also do a great deal for the American economy itself, if their bluechip stock would rise conciderably.
Personally, I'm a nationalist and I always will be. I'll never flat out buy a Japanese product. It's detrimental to our own economy and a slap in the face to our own Car companies that have been supplying us with vehicles since little after the industrial revolution. I personally like Nissans, many of them as a matter of fact. Not so much the other two companies but I'd never buy one. I earned my money in this country which provided me with the job to earn it and I refuse to send it out of this nation especially when a lot of morons expect the American car companie's vehicles to improve if more and more people buy foreign cars which just isn't true. The only way for American Cars to improve in a broad sense is to have more profit to do it with. Innovation is expensive and happens mostly when there is a large profit gain or marketshare gain. I hope you people are with me on this because it's a shame to see Japanese car companies imitate American style for cheaper and try to sell off their cars as American. They're not American if the majority of their profit leaves this country. I hope I at least made some point for you guys who are going to read this. Don't turn your back on the American industry. They helped build this country and are proud to do business in it like you and me.

Japanese have nicer cars that are enviroment friendly. That's what we need now, especially since they don't burn up so much gas. I mean have you seen the prices on gas? A little over 2 dollars a gallon here.

So what else do you expect when you have a 18 mpg car compared to a civic that is close to never breaking and has one of around 30 or even more.

I just remember not too long ago reading that companies are not starting to work on the "quality" of the engine, just as Japan is.

Pfft. Nice time to bring it up. Jesus.

Anyways, I propose a new bill that states every car manufactured after 2008 must have a MPG rating of at least 30.

28 was supposed to be our goal by 2000 something. Never got there.
