Like two days ago, I saw the extended version of The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King on dvd. My friends dad is a movie journalist here in Sweden, and he got the film some days ago.

I don't wanna spoil anything (some maybe already have seen the preview on lordoftherings.net), but they have added som really cool stuff, mostly scenes that reveal more information about certain characters, like when they dig deeper in Faramirs relation to his father Denethor. Eowyn have some pretty interseting moments as well, some cool action sequences =)

I'm very pleased with extended version. Of the three films I've always thought Return Of The King was the weakest one. I thought they missed some crucial things in the original version (what happend to Eowyn and Faramir after the battle of Minas Tirith, just to name one example?). But now when they have added small details from the book, it just perfect. Could not be happier about the result =)

What's it's running time? Approximately?

I bought the theatrical version, it had special features and everything but it turns out there's an extended version  . It's probably not worth buying that too or is it? Or I could at least rent it, but unless it's sooooo much better I'd feel like I was wasting my money either way.

The extended version is 3 hours and 50 minutes long (4 hours with the ending credits) and I will buy it the minute it hits the stores. It will be so worth it! I have the all the original version and the extended versions. Hours and hours with new documentaries and in the theatrical version there is now audio commentary, and they are always fun to listen to. For me this buy is a no brainer =)

I don't really see much point in buying both the Extended Editions and theatrical cuts unless you intended to play them on 2 seperate screen next to each other to see all of the added and extended scenes.

To me the extended version and the theatrical version are two completely different films. The storyline progress in a whole new way in the extended films compared to the original films.

And I'm a total LOTR junkie!

What do you mean, "in the theatrical version there is now audio commentary"? Why?

I wouldn't say that the EE of LOTR movies progress in a while new way, it just gives you a bigger insight to the characters.

EE- full cinematic experience for proper fans and completionists
Normal- for a quicker intake of LOTR, less demanding viewing but still good

Now that the DVD's out, has anyone else seen it?

I went through and watched some of the extended scenes -- LOVE the mouth of sauron

Yeah, i've seen the movie. I liked the scene between Gandalf and the Witch-King in Minus Tirith
