It's all about Cranium for me. I think I play more cards than I play board games, Egyptian war is the best!
my top five would be;
Scrabble
Monopoly
Risk
Scategories
Taboo
I love board games, especially when heaps of my relatives play at family gatherings.
Egyptian War? Zuh?
I play board games with my gal all the time. The games we usually play (aside from various card games); Yahtzee, Trivial Pursuit Juniors, Connect Four, Huggermugger (It's a literary board game from England) and if I can get her into it, Stratego.
But Risk has got to be the best though. Risk can go forever, I love it.

Egyptian War? Zuh?
Often called Egyptian ratscrew. I play it often during class, mostly during the spring when we have testing and finals week. (PE Block periods, not fun)
I forgot to mention checkers.
I was at collectors shop today and saw some cool board games that I so desperately am adding to my Christmas wish list. One is called "Burn In Hell". You collect the souls of the damned! Trade souls with your rivals . . . or just steal the ones you need. Collect groups of Mass Murderers, Cannibals, or even Clerics . . . or build sets of the Seven Deadly Sins. Another one "Metal Mental Meltdown", trivia about metal bands.
There was one that I thought were just so damn hilarious that I have to have it. "Devil Bunny Needs A Ham" you are chefs climbing this building to get away from this insane bunny who wants to eat your ham. You have to get to the top before the bunny catches you and makes you fall to your death.

That is just priceless!
My favorites...
Trivial Pursuit
Risk
Clue
Mastermind (this was all the rage when I was in jr high... we played it constantly)
Monopoly
We used to have one called "Wheeler Dealer" (I think) where you traded antique cars, based on blue-book values. It's the only explainable source of my appreciation for old cars, though I don't think we ever really figured out the rules of the game.

Monopoly here too. I've got a set from (I think) the '50s with fantastic, though a bit poisonous, lead pieces.
Does Chess count as a board game or an addiction like smoking? I've been playing a bit recently though my tactics are still in the Field Marshal Haig envelope... :)

I played it about a month ago with about 30 people and teams of 5. It was so so funny, I loved it. I'd been waiting for it to come in stock at the local Toyworld, but then when it did it was quite expensive so now I'm waiting for a sale.... :p but I do want it.

I'll have to go with Monopoly as it's the game that runs forever.

my fastest sudoko is 4mins 26sec, not that i know what it is or anything..
Trivial Pursuit will always rule the multiple people board games. Pictionary was good, too.
I would have to say Chess is my favourite board game, i would play for hours in the common room at college.
I've always liked Mancala:

What sets chess apart, IMO, is that you can become rusty. In a game like Trivial Pursuit you do not really lose the general knowledge between games, even if you only play with your family at Christmas.
With chess, however, I feel that you need to play regularly in order to maintain a certain standard.

Trivial Pursuit is a favorite. My strategy is to pour rum down the throats of any opponent. So far, it's working ok.

I haven't had to use powder or lotion in ages, thank you very much!
Before this degenerates into an innuendo-filled campathon I'll say this: Sex ain't like riding a bike (well, you know what I mean). Motor memory is involved, I'm sure, but you may need stabilisers after a long lay-off.
Which means that it is like riding a bike but isn't really and chess is similar.

Im fancying playing that Risk but I have no idea what you need to do.
Favorite board games.
This thread is great.
I love boardgames.
It's nice to see so many MoFoers who like the same games.
If we had a reunion I would hope we could play some of them.
Risk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_game)Risk is the best, because you get to conquer the world, many people can play it at the same time, and it's easy to learn while drinking.
4.5
Monopoly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_game)Monopoly is cool if you get all the railroads. $200.00 please.
Great party game.
4.5
Stratego (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratego)You get to capture to other players flag. Sort of like chess.
4
The Russian Campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Russian_Campaign)The Germans invade the Soviet Union during World War Two.
You roll dice, move pieces that represent tanks, infantry, airplanes etc. I think it's more for dudes.
5
Stalingrad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalingrad_(wargame))Same as The Russian Campaign, but not as complex.
5
BroadsideOld board game from the early 60s where you fight the War of 1812 with little ships.
2.5
Hit the BeachOld boardgame where you attempt to retake an island from the Japanese during World War Two.

Fireball Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireball_Island)Pretty cool. Very intense and exciting. Great party game!

I love chess also, but I am lucky because my wife can play. Infact it was one the things that bought us together, she asked me to teach her and that was 23 years ago!
I also like Scrabble and Monopol. But when it comes to Monopoly I have to use electronic versions I have no one to play.
I did have a electronic chess set when I was younger and that was great fun as no one in my family know how to play, which is a shame but the difficulty level went from "easy" to "HAHAHA ill beat you in 3 moves lol"
Earl Gray
08-30-08, 03:57 PM
I have an electronic chess set plus a disc for the computer and the PS2. I had one for the computer a few years back but the SOB would switch sides if you were within 3 to 4 moves of victory.
