Lee Evans.How could I forget!
Him too.
George Carlin, who isn't on the list. The first three are valid candidates. Really, I wasn't even aware Chappelle did stand up, and will have to catch an act before commenting further, but the stuff I usually see him do is skit comedy, all pretty gimmicky.
Put Carlin on man! Admittedly, he has been a bit too involved in the political forum for my taste, and needs to reclaim his ability to subtley pose political ideas in his comedy. Regardless, he has decades of original, clever, HILARIOUS material.
Not saying take Chappelle off, just add George... :p

Jerry Seinfeld.
Mitch Hedberg. Great delivery...because it's so bad.
- "If your friend was a tightrope walker, and you were walking with him down the sidewalk, and he fell, that would be completely unacceptable."
- 'I wish I had an easy to remember number. Something like 222-2222. People would be like 'Mitch, how do I get ahold of you?' And I'd be like 'Just press 2 for awhile. And when I answer you'll know that you've pressed 2 enough.'"
- "It's very dangerous to wave to someone you don't know, because what if they don't have a hand? They'll think you're cocky. 'Look what I got, motherf**ker. This thing is useful. I'm gonna go pick something up.'"
- "With traffic lights, green means go and yellow means hold on, but with a banana its just the opposite. Green means hold on, and yellow means go ahead. And red means 'where the f**k did you get that banana at?'"
- "I think they could take sesame seeds off the market and I wouldn't even care. I can't imagine in five years being like, 'hey! Remember sesame seeds? What happened? All the buns are BLANK.'"
- "I have a cheese shredder at home. That's a positive name for it: cheese shreddrer. They don't call it by its negative name, because no one would buy it: sponge ruiner. Because I wanted to clean it, but now I have little bits of sponge that would melt easily over tortilla chips."
- "This guy gave me a drug for attention deficit disorder, because he's afflicted...but I'm not. So what happened to me is I suddenly had an extra-long attention span. People would be telling me a story, and the story would end, and I'd get all mad and sh*t. 'C'mon, man, there's gotta be more to that story.'"
- "I always order club sandwiches, but I'm not even a member, man. I dunno how I get away with it.
'I like my sandwich with three pieces of bread.'
'So do I.'
'Well let's form a club, then.'
'Okay then we need some more stipulations.'
'Yes we do.'
'Instead of cutting the sandwich once, let's cut it again.'
'Yes, four triangles. And we will position them into a circle. And in the middle we will dump chips.'
'Or potato salad.'
'Okay.'
'Let me ask you a question: how do you feel about frilly toothpicks?'
'I'm for 'em!'
'Well this club is formed. Spread the word on menus nationwide.'
'I like my sandwiches with alfalfa sprouts.'
'Well then you're not in the f**king club!'"

Dane Cook: "F**k drinking out of him. If that was me I'd be like: 'No you fix that wall before my Dad gets home from work. He's going to beat me with a belt. He's not going to believe that a talking bowl of fruit punch came in here. You stupid idiot! Yeah, coming through the wall is real f**king cool. No using the front door is cool. Don't touch me you drink! Don't touch me you giant beverage! You are sweating or condensating, I will kick you in the tights and you will go down; you a very top heavy.... You glass b**ch! You glass bastard! "
"Start Your Day The Holy Way, With Christ Chex"
"A TIRE hit Mary in the FACE.
"Well, what was Mary doing putting her face near a tire?"
No, no, no. This tire hunted Mary down. This tire murdered Mary.
This tire was not f*cking around, as we like to say."
"Bees? F*ck Bees. If bees ever attacked me, I'd punch every single one of them in the FACE. Now if it was flying horses, that's some scary s**t man."
"After a car accident. . you gotta exchange information. That sucks cause nobody ever has a pen. "Do you have a pen? I dont have a pen. Can you remember all my s**t? Do you have a lipstick or something? A crayon?" Then you print your information all nice and neat and when you get theirs it looks like they had a f**king seizure while writing it! "Dude, you got a 28 digit phone #. And under name you drew a picture of a monkey f**king a coconut. What is that? Is your name monkey f**king a coconut sir? MFC is that you? That's a monkey, that could be a melon, looks like a co-co-nut. "
I had more jokes writen out for mitch hedberg and john pinetter here but my computer froze. So here's Dane's

If I'm in a mood where I don't mind listening to a small portion of an act at a time, Mitch Hedberg is great. (Other times too, of course)

Jim Gaffigan - "Pie can’t compete with cake. Put candles in a cake, it’s a birthday cake. Put candles in a pie, and somebody’s drunk in the kitchen."
Jerry Seinfeld- “There's very little advice in men's magazines, because men don't think there's a lot they don't know. Women do. Women want to learn. Men think, "I know what I'm doing, just show me somebody naked."”
In this video, after the first part of Louis's routine about double edged swords, he begins to try and justify really sh*tty and controversial topics which ends up being completely hilarious. If you aren't into some of the more vulgar comedy then don't watch, but if you don't mind it - CHECK THIS CLIP OUT!

Its weird you would have both Dennis Leary And Bill Hicks among your favourites.
Leary has long been outed as a hack that stole Hicks' act, softened some of the edges for the mainstream with his "no cure for cancer" set that catapulted him into the big time.
There's a load of youtubery and other favourites on this thread too...

Louis is absolutely hilar. A very honest, postmodern sort of comic. His show Louis is also about the only show I watch on TV nowadays since stupid Lost ended. It is very hilar.
Also, this poll is kind of a big fail since 75% of the comics people like are not the ones you thought they liked.

My girlfriend likes Dane Cook a lot, but he's never done much for me. I think his jokes are funny and he's very witty, but his delievery and voice just grate on me. It's too "in your face" and forceful. Almost defeats the points.
Steven Wright on the otherhand I love. His deadpan style is classic, and very funny. Seems like a cool guy.
I like Brian Posehn quite a bit. I saw him in Des Moines a couple weeks ago and his stuff is very good, and he plays well to his "look" which is that of a huge child rapist.
Robin Williams I can't stand, whether it's in stand up or in interviews. I like a few of his movies when he's not obnoxious and frippin' loud and annoying, but that's very rare.
Lenny Bruce and George Carlin are classic, and nothing more can really be said.
Larry the Cable Guy is worthless and plays up to his redneck and white trash audience as well as the cross-over appeal he has to people in the midwest with them "traditional values," who have made it into the upper middle class and their pathetic cul-de-sacs and such.

Despite the fact that I'm 27 years old and love comedy, I haven't watched much stand-up comedy. I tried watching Eddie Izzard's Dressed to Kill one time -- a British guy in drag, with a show title that sounded wonderful -- lemme tell ya, it should have been called Dressed to Sleep, 'cause that's all it made me wanna do. I just remember a lot of boring history jokes that I didn't get. It was like walking into class just to find that your history teacher decided to wear his wife's makeup and clothes. All is well until he passes out the dainty pop quiz.
I watched four Margaret Cho stand-up movies and loved the first three, but I thought she was losing her touch by the fourth one. When I saw her trainwreck debut movie, Celeste and Bam Bam, and when she started touring with Cyndi Lauper, I knew she was losing her edge.
George Carlin I know more from his book Brain Droppings, which I loved and found refreshingly depressing but honest and dead on right. Eddie Murphy - I'd like to see Delirious and I think maybe there's a few more, but I mostly know him from his movies. I'm sure he's good, though. Of course, I do love Joan Rivers and I've stopped channel surfing before just to watch her do stand up - I also listened to an old performance of hers.
But, I dunno, I'm odd, I don't naturally tune in to comedians on stage.

He'd better be super quick, because if I ever get to meet him and I'm armed I'm taking that shot.
I agree that he's not offensive, though. However, I'd also argue that he's not funny (or talented), so we're not really going to see eye to eye on this one. Still, maybe one day his Ponderland will be as great as the programme (I assume) he's ripped it from. I hope so, because for some reason, Bob hasn't made anymore of these.
There's some swearing in this first one.

lol classic gunny!
I think with Carlin, you can't simply measure his worth as a comedian by how much he makes you laugh. I have hurt my belly laughing at some of his stuff, but a lot of it is just mild chuckles and maybe a smile here or there. The thing is, there is so much more I get out of his stuff than laughs.
