So the trial for the “husband from hell” is just about over. With the closing arguments complete, now we all have to wait for the jury to deliberate.
How does everyone feel about this case? Do you think he’ll walk or get what he deserves? Also – I’ve been told that the judge is only going to give a 2-hour notice once the jury has reached its verdict. We do have a cable TV in the lounge area here at work, so I’ve been setting it to Court TV to try and keep up-to-date. I even noticed on their website that you can get the verdict sent to your cell phone, which is pretty crazy (though I’m the only one of my friends without one yet!)
Personally, there’s nothing I’d rather see than a death sentence for this disgusting human, though life in prison wouldn’t be a bad 2nd option either.

Please stop posting threads about this. One was enough. I've removed the first one from the boards.
This case should not have gotten the media attention it has gotten already...I haven't paid any attention to it, because it is clearly not any of my business. There are thousands of court cases currently under deliberation, and I see no reason to follow one because the media gets involved...

Who liked Runaway Jury? I thought it was a good movie!

I liked it plenty. I'm a Cusack fan (of the whole family, actually) and thought the plot twists were nice.
Re: Scott Peterson, it was splashy news what, a year ago? At this point, meh... I'm not very interested. He is clearly guilty. A trial has to happen because we do that here. He's going to go to jail for a long time. The Universe is unfolding as it should be. What's your particular concern, Kimberly?

Verdict:
Guilty, 1st degree in the murder of Laci Peterson
Guilty, 2nd degree in the murder of Conner Peterson
I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the case, but there was something very chilling about hearing the verdict read. It'll be nice not to have to hear about these kinds of things for at least a little while now.

Agreed.
Although they're headed into the penalty phase of the hearings in a week, so it's a brief reprise, at best.

Wow. Where have I been? When did this story break? I wonder if this has anything to do with them replacing the foreman not but a few days ago...maybe yesterday, was it? Hmmm...interesting case. I think you'd have to be dense not think this guy had something to do with his wife's death. The whole," He might be a creep but does that make him a killer?" theory is about as thick as water.
I looked the story up, it was posted about 45 minutes ago. I found this bit from story to pretty much sum up my feelings about the case:
The jury of six men and six women was told to return Nov. 22 to begin hearing testimony on whether Peterson should die by lethal injection or get life in prison without parole. Peterson faces the death penalty because he was convicted of multiple murders.
Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old substitute teacher, was eight months pregnant when she vanished around Christmas Eve 2002. Four months later, her headless body and the remains of her fetus were discovered along the shoreline about 90 miles from the couple's Modesto home — not far from where her husband claims he was fishing alone the day of her disappearance.
Hmmm...8 months pregnant, right before Christmas, having phone conversations with a mistress...hmmmm...lethal injection.

Everyone here at work went down to the conference room and watched the news report when it was announced. San Diego is only an hour and a half or so south of here. And the defendant was a pretty boy, so the queen across the hallway was all excited about the verdict. :p
The evidence I saw was enough for me to draw a conclusion - though I always leave room for the fact that we're not told everything. I honestly don't know which is worse punishment, life in prison or death, so I don't have strong feelings one way or the other on that.
I feel sorry for his mom though. She'll be needing two oxygen tanks after this. Of course, I am sympathic to Laci Peterson's family as well, but I'd think it would be even worse to ask yourself for the rest of your life why your son did that.

I totally have empathy for the parents of Peterson. They have to live with this the rest of their lives. I'm sure they were looking forward to the arrival of a new grandson as well, sad. You're right, maybe rotting in prison would be worse than death. He seems like the kind of guy that spoils himself in every way imaginable he'd probably LOATH prison. Not to mention the guys in there are none to kind to pretty boys and baby killers. *whew* I'm with the life sentance thing, now.

kill him. thats all i have to say. What kinda monster kills his wife and son. I haven't been paying attention so I dont know the motive but as I say again: What kinda monster kills his wife and son(I think it is his son). Monsters should be killed or restrained but I'm going to make a special sugestion: for this guy, put him in the fu!king chair and see how he reacts when he has some "juice" for dinner.

amen to that
Maybe I'm the only one here, but I didn't pay a single second to learning anything about this trial. There are more important things going on and I find it sadly telling that it is getting more publicity and striking up more conversations than Arafat's funeral. I don't know if anyone happened to be watching the news this morning as it was happening, but I haven't been moved by something like that for a good while.

I think it's important that a man is being convicted for murdering his unborn son. It's history in the making.
It isn't the first time...

...you're right. It's called fetiside.
"A 1998 state law made feticide a crime tantamount to regular homicide..."

Well, he got his just desserts. Too bad it takes like a decade for the appelas to end and another 30+ years for California to even carry out his death sentance. At least he'll have a long time to think about what he did. My heart goes out to Laci and Scott's parents during their first holiday season without their family intact.
