My first one was The Archies' "Sugar, Sugar".
Even the messed up half-rap version on the radio right now ("Nasty Girl") makes me grin. Nothing compares to the Soviet Union version, naturally, but I still love the Archies. Yay!

I think my first vinyl single I got was a swedish one with Gyllene Tider called "När vi två blir en". That must have been in 1979 or something and I was like five. The first record I bought with my own money must have been something with Kiss, probably "Dynasty" or something. I was really a Kiss fantatic starting in 1st or 2nd grade.

He he.. well... We did build drum kits using pillows and axes from pieces of wood and then we performed in front of the other kids miming to "Lick It Up". And, yes, I always got to be Gene. :D

ha! I see you share my vision. Little KISS outfit in black leather with studs everywhere, shoulderpads knocking other kids over...
Piddy, you'll always be Gene to me, after this! :D Mini Gene.

So when will the film about Johnny Cash starring Gene Simmons as the Man In Black be released?

I'm totally betraying my youth here, but one of the first CDs I bought with my own money was Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill.

I loved the Archies!
I just went through my old 45's. I'm not sure which was my very first 45, but my earliest records were...
The Osmonds ~ One Bad Apple
Donny Osmond ~ Go Away Little Girl
Bobby Sherman ~ Julie, Do you Love Me
Three Dog Night ~ Joy to the World
Freda Payne ~ Band of Gold
The Supremes ~ Floy Joy
Michael Jackson ~ Ben
Donovan ~ Riki Tiki Tavi
Simon and Garfunkle ~ Cecila
The Partridge Family ~ I Think I Love You
The Sweet ~ Little Willy
Sorry for listing so many Delila.
My first album was The Very Best of the Hermans Hermits (Volume 2). That I remember because it was a very big deal to buy an ENTIRE album instead of a 45. :p

Some god picks you have there, Aniko.
My first record was Michael Jackson's Thriller, which my parents bought for me back when I was too young to remember hearing it for the first time anymore. The first one I remember specifically hearing and asking for (when I was around 5 or 6) was some crappy Tears For Fears single (the one that goes "shout! shout! let it all out!" which when I first heard it I interpreted liberally as "shout! shout! leddylalout!"). My first cassette tape was Little Creatures by The Talking Heads, which I borrowed indefinitely from my mother when I was probably around 11 or 12 (I borrowed the cd when she bought it too.) The first cd I ever bought was Nail, by Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel. I bought it at the Princeton Record Exchange for seven dollars when I was 15 or 16 ('95 or '96.) Still one of my very favorites.

The first album I ever bought with my own money was Billy Joel's Glass Houses. And I believe the first CD I ever bought was the Bird soundtrack.

It will show how much younger I am than I pretend to be, but the first album I owned was Beck's Odelay back in fourth grade. As far as CDs purchased with my own money, it would likely have been OK Computer sometime in seventh or eighth grade.

Art Garfunkel - Bright Eyes
I feel that my musical taste reached a plateau in the '70s. ;)
First CD was either Green by REM or De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising (on the day I bought my first player in 1989).
