Okay...

Is my PC DVD player broken?

The last DVD I tried to watch was about 2 weeks ago, and it kept pausing halfway through at the exact same point each time. I tried it (with rebooting, etc.) about 9 times, and it kept freezing at the same point in time.

I thought it was just the DVD, but then today I rented 3 more DVD's, and about halfway through it freezes as well..

I asked in a DVD chatroom, and they seem to think I need a new DVD player:

<Animix> about halfway through most movies is the layer change... the dvd drive's laser must focus to a slightly different depth... sounds like it's dying while trying to do this on your machine

What do you guys think?

I think they're right.

It most definitely could be the dvd player. You might want to test playing a long video file from your hard drive to make sure you do not have overheating problems. Also try a different media player. I would check these things out, just in case. I would hate to see you buy another player and have the same problem. If I had to guess though I would say your dvd player is bad.
