Das Boot - which version is best to buy?

I'm looking to buy Das Boot on DVD, and was wanting some of ya'lls opinions. I have only seen the short version, and there's a director's cut, and this huge long 5 or 6 hour version. Anybody seen them all? Which is best? And do the extended versions have the option to play the shorter versions (you know, cut out the added scenes)?

Buy the full uncut version. When they filmed it they were told it was a miniseries, then afterward they decided to cut it for theatrical release. read a review here IGN DVD (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/539/539484p1.html)
