do you buy a Collectors Edition or any sort? It just came to my attention I only have one of the collections I have. I know, Collectors Editions tend to be a bit more pricy, but would it be better if I got CE?
Now, I won't go back and make up for the ones I already have and that aren't CE. I just want to know what would be more of a impressionable idea.
Also, don't include money and such in this...I just want a typical answer. :p :D
I tend to buy the one that is available at the time, usually I am too inpatient to wait for the collection. http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage20/17.gif

It depends on if you're the kind of person who likes to sit through hours of bonus material, like deleted scenes, making-ofs, cast and crew interviews, etc. Assuming you are, then it's only a question of if you like the particular movie enough or not. Hours of extra material for a movie you don't like much in the first place is worthless.
But isn't that pretty self evident?
A lot of times I see "collector's edition" written on the outside packaging, but have no clue what makes it different.
i like collector's edition
I am very careful at which version I buy. I mean, there are retail versions, Special Editions, Collectors Editions, Ultimate Editions, Director's Cuts, Boxed Seta and etc. and most of them literally have the same bonus features (some with crappy promo material just for its sequel).
What I do is examine each versin, with its movie, extras and etc. and when I can really tell that the right one has been released....I will then purchase it.

If there is a box set I will usually buy it even if I know I will never watch the special features. I just like the look of them.
I always buy Warner Brothers CE's since they only cost a couple bucks more than the normal versions, and I have the WB cases (the CE cases rock though). You also will sometimes get better audio/video with the CEs.

Usually it all depends on price for me.... HOWEVER if I am absolutley in love with the film(or in some cases the director) then I will buy the Special edition, no matter the price.
It usually depends on the movie. I got "Legend" Ultimate Edition because I love that movie.
It seems that lately every release is a SE.

I'd go for the collectors' or Criterion release, whenever possible. I don't buy many though. I think I own 11 or so dvd's, total. But if I'm going to have to dust the damn thing, I want a good one.

Unless it's a film that I love so much that I almost can't live without I always wait for special editions or any DVD film that I like that has a lot of extras. I just think it's a waste of money to buy something that is basically just the same as a video, except for the fact that it has loading times and costs around twice as much. Only film I've ever bought without caring for extra's though is Mission Impossible.
