Lance Armstrong. It's a name that just started to fly around just six years ago. In 1999 he won his first Tour De France. A grueling 2,100 mile race over some of the toughest terrain know to man. And he did this after surviving testicular cancer that spread to his lungs and brain. He lost one of his well, you know. He also had brain surgery and chemotherapy. Then he comes back and wins the Tour De France. But, that's not all. He then comes back and wins in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and, just recently, 2004. Now all of this wasn't easy. In 2003 he won by just 61 seconds; 61. It was his closest win ever. Not only did he win six times in a row, the only man to do so, he also won three mountain stages, the second man to do so. He had an average speed of 14.5 MPH uphill and an average speed of 40 MPH on the flats. Now that's not something that an average Joe can do. He's by far one of the best cyclists in the history of the Tour De France, and world. He's also, in my opinion, the best athlete in the world too. One more thing; he's not using this fame for his own gain but, for the gain of his foundation. The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) helps those with cancer and tires to find a cure for cancer. So I ask each and every one of you to help Armstrong in the fight against cancer. If you still can find them, buy one of the yellow bracelets with his mantra LIVESTRONG. It goes to benefit his foundation and the fight against cancer. If we can all learn to live strong; we'll live long.

One more photo.
I don't know if you knew or not but my older sister used to go to high school and date Lance Armstrong. I was around him now and then...he is a real cool guy. I wonder what it would be like if they satyed together.

John- your obsession with Armstrong is almost as bad (in a good way!) as your fetish for avatars :) He is a cool guy and I am looking on the internet to find one of those bracelets. Have you read any of his biographies/memoirs? They're really good. You can tell he really respected his mother and all she did for him.

Jrs, are you tugging my leg?
Hers some more info. Lance is going to sue France, Germany, and I believe England for their continuous accusing of drug use. At a boy Lance. Anyways, he's still undecided on his decision of racing next year but, we know for sure that the American Team will be sponsored by Discovery Channel. USPS made the decision not to sponsor the team anymore after this year.
Jrs, are you tugging my leg?

Ah, you got to be joking.
Anyways, Robin Williams, whose one of Lance's good friends not jrs :p ;), met Lance though a bike rider auction thing. The celebrities auction for the rider, then ride with them. Anyways, he then became a good friend of his and went to the tour and rode in the team car. Robin also stood by Lance when all the people accused him of drugs yet found no evidence. When Lance was asked what Robin does he replied with "He yells at everybody" with a chuckle. In 2002 Robin saw a guy with an accussing sign and he yelled "Drop the sign motherf***er!!"

Interestingly enough, I shook hands with Lance one time.

I second that emotion.
I love seeing people talk about things that get them fired up, and Armstrong is a really inspiring person, too! :)

*bump* Revisiting this thread is very, very interesting.
I always rooted for Ivan Basso even when he rode against Lance. Of course, I was only rooting Ivan for second. I was really looking forward to see him riding in the most recent tour, and possibly winning; What a let down.
