I wanted to create a site just like this one. When searching for domain names I stumbled across this place. I think it's great (well, really great) and huge (as in lots of members). I was wondering that with such a huge movie forum giant like this one is it even worth attempting to create another site like this one? If so, could I get some name suggestions, because all the domains I've tried (including this one :p) have been taken. If not, what other topics could I make a site about? All the topics I've thought of have giants like this site and I figured it isn't worth a shot because I know my site'll fail. Thanks for any suggestions and comments for and/or against this idea. I just don't wanna waste money on a site I know is doomed to fail. Thanks again.

all i can tell you is this: you never know until you try...there are so many things that you can come up with...one o f them is talking about a certain movie genre (horror, drama, comedy, etc) come up with games based on movies, fanfiction and p oetry...

Okay thanks susan. Maybe I'll create a site on a specific movie genre, and possibly affiliate with this site! Any other suggestions?
Is it worth it? Depends on how patient you are. It took this site a couple years before it was particularly active. The first year, in particular, required that I be very active in both monitoring it and in keeping discussions going. Most communities, if run well and given enough time, can become about this size, I'd say, but it's usually a long-term project.

I'm into poker. Do you guys think a poker community (not for online play, just info and forums) would be successful. I play online and could advertise. That may work. Any comments? It just came to me while playing.
Something even better: card games in general! There could be a category for solitare games, one for poker games, etc. This may work. After all, card games are fun to play, and are popular.

i was just making a point that a thread dedicated to only on emovie series can be so popular. so anything is possible with forums

Okay me and my friend decided to make our forums about cruising. For people who love to cruise. They can talk about past and future cruises, debate which cruise lines are better, tell us about which ports of call are best, where to get the best prices for the cruises, etc. This sounds like a good idea, and there aren't any other forums about it so we'll be the first! :D (Hope no one takes the idea between now and when I open... :( )

Thanks susan! Hope this one works. :D
To allthatglitters: I'm taking my seventh cruise in one week (next Saturday). My first cruise was back in 1995. It was on Carnival's Ecstacy (I forget where to). Then in 2001 I took a cruise on the Carnival Victory from N.Y.C. to Canada. It was a 5-day cruise. Then in 2002 I took three cruises. The first was in March. It was only a 3-day cruise, but was fun. We left from Miami and went to Aruba (I think that's where). Then in June of that same year, my entire family (cousins, aunts, grandparents, and all) took a family reunion cruise for 5 days, the same one as the Carnival Victory one to Canada, except it was on the Carnival Sensation. The last cruise of that year was on the Carnival Triumph for 7 days (not sure on that one). It went to Grand Cayman, New Orleans, and Cozumel. Finally, last year we took a cruise on the huge Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas for 7 days. This one went to Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Cozumel. They've all been great. Next week's cruise leaves out of Philadelphia, which is right across the river from where I live, and is going to Bermuda for 7 days. We're sailing on the Celebrity Horizon. It's a small ship, but they say Celebrity has the best food. We shall find out.

I play online poker quite a lot and my bankroll on pokerstars.com is sitting at $16780. Not much of a website you can make based on that because its all been done before.
There really isnt much point in trying to create community based websites anymore because the internet is saturated with them and it really will not work unless you get lucky and you have good ideas.

Well I gave up on the poker idea. I figured it wouldn't work. Besides, all the good domains for poker sites were taken  . And this cruise idea seems pretty good and will hopefully work out.
