My father was good friends with this accordion player. Harry Hibbs was his name. He had his own show on Canadian TV back in the 70s. He used to come to the house all the time.

Not personally. When my youngest niece was little she was friends with the niece of Danny DeVito. :)

No one "in the headlines famous" but came across a few folks with Wikipedia pages during my time as editor of a monthly magazine ... so that's as close as I've come:

I published one of the first short stories by Jack McDevitt, who would later go on to a distinguished career as a science fiction writer, winner of a few Nebula awards and such, and nominated for many more. Only spoke by phone and traded emails now and then.

I also spoke briefly over the phone with Walter Tevis, when publishing an excerpt of The Queen's Gambit on its release in 1983. You'd also recognize him as the author of the books behind The Hustler, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and The Color of Money. Very pleasant gentleman. When I spoke with him in 1983 he had a gravelly voice; he died of lung cancer the following year.

Worked routinely with the monthly columnist who was the real-life guy portrayed by Ben Kingsley in an Oscar nominated film. (Well, for cinematography.) A consummate chess teacher and writer named Bruce Pandolfini, featured in Searching for Bobby Fischer (a very entertaining little flick anyone might like).

I once passed Woody Allen and Mia Farrow on the streets in Manhattan. At least I'm told I did. (Longer story.)

My cousin doesn't have a Wikipedia page but is a studio musician in Nashville who's played keyboards and toured with the likes of Steve Winwood, the Allman Brothers, James Brown, Tanya Tucker, Etta James, Willie Nelson, Crystal Gayle, and on and on. Lyrics and music for several hits, including a No. 1 on the country charts.

Mort Sahl - but I wouldn't call him minor. Saw him 4 times in California.

A young MLB player, very bright future, played in the World Series but quickly threw it away due to drugs and alcohol. We partied hard. He was just another dude to me but it was crazy how others viewed him as a celebrity.

Drank with Bob Gamere a few times.

I've met George Lynch, guitarist of bands Dokken and Lynch Mob twice. Once in person at an event, and once while working at home at a call center job during a phone call.

Mostly wrestlers. One of them was instrumental in starting an eastern PA-based promotion and trained a lot of the guys who are in the business now.

I'm also friends with an actor - Stink Fisher - who appeared in a few movies and TV shows including The Lovely Bones, Invinceable and Gotham
