View Full Version : Your Most Controversial Music Opinions
I wasn't a big Whitney Houston fan. A great voice but it wasn't for me.

Bubblegum, Blue Grass, Rockabilly, and Steel Drum (Pan or Caribbean Music) are the best types of music.

I think 99% of the music from my lifetime is shit - for so many reasons, and I've posted dozens of reasons why on my music threads.

Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are not good singers.
(Good song writers and musicians, sure, but not good singers. Is this opinion even controversial?)

Three of my favorite artists - Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen can't really sing.
For a very long time I thought the 1990s was a crap decade for music. While I still don't think it was as good (as a whole) as the previous decades, I think it was probably better than 2000 forward (again, as a whole).

The last decent decade for music.

I think "Weird Al" Yankovic should be inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

And his predecessor, Alan Sherman should be included in the Folk Music Hall of Fame!

YES. So many influences should be recognized more!

Despite what anyone thinks of Courtney Love, I think Hole is better than Nirvana.
Nirvana sometimes sounded very commercial and Hole is more grunge

My controversial opinion is, that without ever having even heard it, I already know Metal Machine Music is great.

The guitarist for Black Flag. Who is great.
But certainly no Carlos Santana.

I'm trying to think of a single great guitarist that I like less than Eric Clapton, even by just a little bit, and I'm drawing blanks.
And, I know I'm wrong. I know I'm wrong. And I'm sure one of these days a light will go on and I'll realize how dumb I've been.
But, until then, Eric Clapton is the most boring.

I was going to violently disagree, but then I couldn't remember the name of the album I like and think is so much better, so I should probably just drop it.

On Van Halen:
Sammy Hagar era is more interesting and the released memorable songs of this period are three times more than the earlier one.
Moreover, the albums OU812 (1988) and Balance (1995) are the only ones I would consider for Hard Rock genre All Time Top 100 LPs.

Elvis Presley was nothing but an overweight Karaoke singer who mostly sang other people's songs.

Nope, you aren't wrong. Most overrated musician of all time.
Guitars are awesome, though.

Disagree, but there is a massive post-genre movement going on (which I happen to enjoy quite a bit) that is blending many genres together. On the other side of the coin, I would argue that genres have become far too granular these days, with various genres split down into dozens of sub-genres, some with very little distinction from the others.

I should add that I think they are good at what they do (like Dylan), but I just dislike the music or in the cage of Rage, a variety of other reasons as well. Mostly just a matter of taste here.

I had never heard of it. Put it on this morning. Lasted about three minutes. Whatever. I guess it means something to someone. The world is weird sometimes.

I heard a couple tracks from the panned Led Zeppelin II cover album by Train of all people.
I'M SORRY, BUT THIS IS NOT THEIR WORST WORK. Maybe they shouldn't have tried to cover Led Zppelin, but I greatly prefer this over their original tripe.
I have never enjoyed Carlos Santana. Ever.
Back when he released music with Rob Thomas and Michelle Branch just pissed me off and he lost any respect I could have salvaged. And I honestly have no idea why I do not like him as I hardly know his work. But I hate both Rob Thomas and Michelle Branch and their quality of music, so to see a name like Santana (regardless of my stylistic preferences), just hit me wrong.
also, yes. i am becoming a sith lord it seems.
