I just wanted to say that I think this is a ****ing great movie.

Makes my 200 masterpieces, my top 100 films, my top 50 free films on youtube, and at at least one point it made me go from nothing to a hard lol in a split second. Clean sweep, and well deserved. Beautiful photography too.

Meh... Gerwig isn't a very good actress (nor a filmmaker, for that matter) and whatever Baumbauch has tried to do here has been done way better before, even in his own filmography.

I agree that the B&W photography looked good*, but as a whole it's another high addition to your list that I don't get.

*EDIT: Actually, let's question this element too. What's the point of making this film in B&W? Yeah I get you love French New Wave. Can we leave this behind now?

I liked this movie, but I saw, by pure coincidence, Claudia Weil's Girlfriends (1978) within a year before Frances, Ha's release and it just seemed like an updated version but with the 70's grit sanded off, so I greatly prefer the earlier film, and enjoyment for Frances, Ha is somewhat muted.

Just watched this. Nice film, and yeah definitely the protype I'd say. That at Stranger than Paradise.
Kind of like a cross between Cassavetes and Woody Allen.
For me personally Ha is the better film, but I appreciate the value/premium of finding a little known gem.
