View Full Version : Where to find foreign movies?
I have had a lot of trouble finding foreign movies on streaming services or even DVD/Blu-ray. I have a small collection but mostly had to resort to pirated copies ordered from China on eBay. While I'd rather support the actual studios and official distributors, when these movies are not made available, I do what I have to. So my question is, are there any streaming services or online DVD stores that have a nice selection of foreign movies?
If it matters, I'm currently searching for a French movie called The Deep Dark (2023), originally titled Gueules noires. I've found a copy on eBay but it has German subtitles and I need English.
The Criterion Channel is the best for non English films from all over the world.

I've heard of The Criterion Channel but never gave it a look before. Having just done so after your post, the movie I'm currently looking for isn't on there but maybe others will be. Thanks.

It is available on YouTube and the subtitles can be auto translated into English. But that does not support the creators.
An idea that might work. Use a VPN and set it to Europe or the country of the movie you are looking for. Then search for available streaming services. Probably have to use the web site language translator feature to understand the searches. You might be able to subscribe to them by pretending you are in their region.

Criterion Channel is a good recommendation. Tubi is an ad-supported free service that has quite a few foreign films. If you are in America, you can see if your library gives you access to Hoopla and/or Kanopy (my library does both), which both have a fair number of foreign films.
2023 is still very recent. I suspect that is the problem you are having. In time, it will become available to streaming services so you can watch it "legitimately".
