Hi Yoda
My laptop keyboard is playing up, so I am going to be using another device.
Just sortinng out a few logins.
I don't know what my password is for this MoFos.
I tried to request a new password, but it tells me my answer to the question is wrong (3rd letter of 2nd word) so I can't get a password reset link.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Have you considered plugging in a USB keyboard to your laptop? That might help.

Ta. But no it's a bigger problem than that.
There's an overheating problem, which is causing the intermittent keyboard issues. It's not a mechanical issue with the keyboard.
Anyway I've locked myself out of the other device now.
Could use my phone I suppose.
Just fiddled with some interacting settings/plugins, let me know if it works now.

Also make sure your cap lock isn't on. That has happened to me before.

Robert, can you hear your laptop's fan working? If the fan has went out, you would need to replace it. That might be easy, or hard depending on your skills and the design of the laptop.
Fan thing is good advice, the computer shuts off to protect itself from overheating, so something as cheap and simple as a fan breaking can make it seem like the whole thing's going.
That said, replacing even a cheap component like a fan can be arduous in something as low-profile as a laptop.

Thanks for this CR! and also Yoda.
Yes I've heard it for months! It has periods where it never does it, and then a few days at a time where it's going bonkers (like right now!).
It's only started overheating in the last few weeks though (it does it mainly or exclusively when in use whilst charging), and the keyboard issue (which currently comes and goes) has been in the last 24 hours.
I'm taking it in to the local repair shop on Monday and they're going to have a look at it.
I called them up this morning when the keyboard stopped working and probably sounded quite panicky, which prompted the guy to warn me not to use the laptop because it could burn the house down. I went in this afternoon and had a word with them and it didn't sound quite so pessimistic.
Talked about replacing maybe the fan, maybe the battery, maybe the top-plate if that doesn't sort it. I have an old one (previously broken) the same though and they are going to take a fan from that one if they need to, and the battery if it's working. Top plate is broken on that one too though.
Also btw Yoda, any clues on the password reset thing?!!

Aye, this:
So I tried again with an R, and it redirected me back to the home page for someone logged out.
I had another go this time answering r, and it redirected me to somewhere that never loaded (a blank white screen on my phone).

Are you trying to do this on a phone?

To compound matters, on my way back from the repair shop I dropped the ****ing thing off the seat about 2 foot, and although initially I thought it was alright, the mouse thing on the keypad seems to have taken a knock. Normally just give it a little delicate touch, but it's now only responding to something more akin to a finger thump. Dear oh dear oh dear! (and the fan's going nuts lol haha).

I was these 2 times, although earlier in the day I tried on another laptop, and the site returned a message saying I had answered the question incorrectly.
Unfortunately I've now managed to log myself out of that laptop and I don't know the password to it either, and won't be able to get back into it until at least Monday, so for now my only potential alternative is the phone.

I would need to know what time that was to glean anything from this, specifically whether it was before or after my message above asking you to try it again.
Just in general, I'd ask you to include as much specificity as possible with bug reports. So instead of "earlier," the time. Instead of "it didn't work," copy and paste the exact error message when possible. And, of course, mentioning upfront what device and style you're doing this on. I'm almost always going to have to ask for that stuff anyway, so you'll get help a lot quicker if it's there already.

Try going to the User CP and switching to the Desktop style (under Edit Options) then, and then trying the reset.

I can't help you Robert, but I am glad I am not the only person who has issues with passwords.
There are Password Managers that integrate with your browser to help with this kind of stuff. Some okay free ones, others you pay a small monthly fee, which is worth it if you find yourself in this kind of situation even once or twice a year. To say nothing of how much more secure it is. Highly recommended.
Even just your browser's autofill is a decent alternative, too.

EDIT:
NOW FIXED.
The sign in box automated to give my email, when it was actually prompting my username.
