One of my favorite films featuring Gloria Grahame. I think she gives one of her most unique performances here.
So I guess they tried to make Gassman a star in America but it didn't work out
Grahame had four movie releases in 1953, the year after win an Oscar for BS Actress in The Bad and the Beautiful
Douglas Spencer in this one playing a cop. He played the reporter in The Thing From Another World, 1951
I've seen two films from this director, Fear in the Night and The Naked Street.

Another film noir with narration, like last week's movie.
Vittorio Gassman was in 121 feature films. I've only seen 3 of them.

I can't really watch the film and post at the same time on my computer, so I'll probably just read what you guys post later as I'm missing the movie as I type!
The audio and video is better on this one than last week's movie, Canon City.

This actor has a nice, expressive face.

He was only 50 when he died. I've seen him in 18 films.
they seemed oblivious to the existence of the concentration camps. which was kind of true in 1945 or so.
Gassman born in 1922 seemed to avoid any war service.
Gassman was married to Shelley Winters for a couple years in the 50s.
Good introduction to Gloria Grahame's character.
Gloria Grahame was only 57 when she died. Ann Robinson who is also in this film was born in 1929 and is still alive.

this was the peak of her career, 1950-55
35 bucks a week doesn't sound like much.
i assume she lost her job as the men came back from the war. women were expected to get married and go back to the kitchen.

I don't think I have ever seen an episode of that show, but I have seen Jerry Paris in at least 10 films.

paris went on to direct most of the happy days series.
This film has an imdb rating of 6.8/10 and a Letterboxd rating of 3.4/5, which equals a 6.8/10, so the equivalent rating on both sites.

He also directed two of the Police Academy movies.
eddie was terrible.
Yeah, he's a no good bum!
Some nice dance moves on that kid.
Alvin Freeman is the street dancer. He was only in 2 films. He died in 2010 at the age of 70.
I've seen two films from this director, Fear in the Night and The Naked Street.
we watched the naked street a few weeks ago
Good performances so far, especially from Vittorio Gassman and Gloria Grahame.

the most unglamorous role ever for grahame
Good cinematography and effective use of different locations.

Could be. I checked the cast list and it didn't list a cab driver.
the daughter is a burlesque dancer and the son is a gambler. mom doesn't seem to mind.
Don't forget, your dead father was a lousy foreigner!
Great speech:
Somebody - somebody listen. You... you come here to bring peace to the world but what is the world? As long as there is one man who can't walk free where he wants, as long as there is one displaced person without a home, there won't be peace because to each man, he is the world. Nobody listens.
Great shot with him on the ledge.
You found me. I was looking for you, and you found me.

a movie with a message
This was quite good. Great performances, well written, and engaging with excellent cinematography. 8/10 is my rating. (although I don't know if this is truly film noir)
