This is the second CBS spinoff of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon's older brother George and his wife and baby girl, have moved in with Mandy's parents. This show was created by Chuck Lorre, the TV legend behind Two and a Half Men and Mom. The opening credit sequence was beyond adorable. It's a little weird that this show is done with the three camera laugh track and Young Sheldon was not. Will Sasso, who was terrific on Mom as Jill's cop boyfriend. is very funny here as Mandy's dad. Mandy's older brother is a useless character they need to lose. "Just sending the government more of our money to piss away." Looks like Mandy's mom is going to be a constant thorn in Georgie and Mandy's sides. I've noticed that Georgie has been given a brain he didn't have on Young Sheldon. OK, them moving out so soon is not a great idea because the conflict with Mom is what's driving this show. Glad to see they brought Annie Potts over from Young Sheldon. Potts is a welcome presence here. Nice to see Zoe Perry too, but I'm not sure if I want her to be a permanent cast member. "I'm old enough to have a wife, a baby, and a shower that doubles as a shower." Don't really understand why they killed off Lance Barber as Georgie's dad. Having to climb into their bed could become a funny running bit. Mom's reaction to seeing her daughter's new home was priceless without saying a word. Glad Mom apologized. Montana Jordan and Emily Osment are adorable in the title roles, but the supporting cast is what I liked here. I liked this better than Young Sheldon.
I thought this was just an okay pilot episode. The actors are fine, but this episode wasn't funny. I didn't laugh once. I think this was a weaker first episode than Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon, but there is potential that it will get better.

Don't really understand why they killed off Lance Barber as Georgie's dad.
We knew from the original show, ("The Big Bang Theory"), that Sheldon's father died when Sheldon was 14 years old, so they had to kill him off in "Young Sheldon" to maintain the continuity with the original show.

You should watch it. There are a lot of references to it in "Young Sheldon", and there might be more in the new spinoffs.

I tried to watch The Big Bang Theory a couple of times I just couldn't get into it...there's no way I could get through all ten seasns, I couldn't even get through a single complete episode.

I love "The Big Bang Theory". I've seen every episode multiple times, and I still watch the reruns on TBS.

If you ever try again, I'd suggest watching a few seasons in. Once Bernadette and Amy join it gets a lot more watchable, IMO, Those two characters are the making of the whole show.

I have absolutely no desire to watch The Big Bang Theory
I think episode 2 was better than the pilot episode. It still isn't very funny, but the writing and acting seemed stronger in this second episode.

I love TBBT. I get a lot of the jokes and nerd references. Young Sheldon was an interesting prequel. I'm not much of a fan of the new series. I guess I just need to watch it .
It doesn't have any of the geekiness that the other two do.

Season One, Ep 2 Georgie's opening scene with his dad was sweet. There was nothing George could have said to Mandy in that first scene that would have made her feel any better? "I'm pretty sure these are the good Koreans." "Look at this face, I'm on camera talent." They really need to lose Mandy's brother...pointless character. That's the cleanest auto garage floor I've ever seen. Can't believe how big Missy has gotten. "Unique is the word we agreed to sue." Wow, isn't Georgie kind of young to be having a heart attack? "Anxiety, that's just some New York nonsense." Loved Georgie and Mandy checking out Georgie's heart. I still say this Georgie has a brain that he didn't have on Young Sheldon. Missy's scene with her dad was sweet too.

I loved the scenes with Georgie and Missy at their father's grave. I hope they keep that in as a recurring theme.
They really need to lose Mandy's brother...pointless character.
I agree 100%. He's just a waste of time. They need to get rid of him.
I still say this Georgie has a brain that he didn't have on Young Sheldon.
There were scenes in the later episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" with Georgie that showed that he's got a brain. (He was played by Jerry O'Connell in TBBT.)

Season One, Ep 3. Georgie's got a credit card...no good can come of that. Wow, Mandy's credit card history must be pretty bad. They need to lose Mandy's brother...the character continues to be pointless and unfunny. Georgie didn't actually compare Mandy to her mother? Women love that. That's a lot of credit card debt. Mandy should have told Georgie about this a long time ago. "Why? You're gonna kiss your mother and tell me she's your sister?" It doesn't cost anything to attend a taping of SNL? Mandy is totally wrong for not telling Georgie the name of the guy that she paid his medical bills. Please don't let Mandy's ex be writing Georgie a rubber check. Hope springs eternal I guess. No good can come of Georgie's plan. Georgie is right...he is handling this whole situation with a lot more composure than I expected. Emily's breakdown in the restaurant reminded me so much of Christy on Mom.

Season One, Ep 4. Montana Jordan and Emiy Osment definitely have chemistry and the show is watchable, it's just not providing laugh out loud laughs yet. Is that casey Wilson playing Mandy's co-worker? "It was a nice to hang out a woman who didn't give birth to me."
"But you knew that because I've read this story 118 times." "Reading on the toilet is not a game, Jim." "Anyhoo, too much tequila and not enough condoms and here we are." Liked he first reference to Sheldon that we've had. Didn't realize that Mandyh is older than Georgie. Will Sasso was very funny during twenty questions. Emily Osment just produced my first out loud laugh during the scene in the truck going home. Mom could be a little more supportive of Mandy. Good for Georgie being the designated driver. The bar actually had a pay telephone in it. I can't remember the last time I saw a pay phone on a TV show.
I think episode 4 was the best so far, although it needs to be more consistently funny.

This is weird, but despite everyone I know assuming I would be the biggest Big Bang Theory fan based on who I am and stuff I like, I never really got into the show.
For all "intensive purposes" I SHOULD be the biggest fan: I'm a nerd, I'm intensely interested in science, I love everything to do with NASA, astronomy and spaceflight, I'm a huge Star Trek fan along with all things science fiction, and as most of you know I've been a comic book geek since I was 10 years old (and have even had related work stints in the industry) - I have everything in common with the characters on the show (including some mild social phobias similar to Sheldon) - yet although seeing some episodes & finding them mildly entertaining, I just never had the desire to follow it as I have some other shows.

I used to love the show. Then it felt like they were grasping at straws, and they routinely missed, and just grabbed different straws that were from a different bale, and it just got weird, and not in a good way. I quit watching in like season five, and I have no desire to go back to it. I suppose the spinoffs might be okay, except if I don't like the original anymore, why would I want to watch the spinoff?

Yeah there's no direct connection between a hobby and a show to watch. I was in a D&D group that everyone else hates Big Bang Theory, and they're more interested in the comic books and Star Trek and all of that than I ever have been. Oh I love video games and movies and some nerdy stuff like that, but I don't do superheroes or comics or toys and some others that don't come to mind.
For comparison, just because it occurs to me, I'm as athletic as a bush, and I used to love to watch baseball and football. Not so much anymore, though for a while it was almost religious. "My team is playing? Okay that's my next three hours sorted." My Sundays from September through February are just NFL all day, and I can't play at all.
I get the reasoning behind what you described. It's just interesting to me the discrepancy in interests and what we watch.
It occurs to me. Someone I knew hates football and enjoys football movies. I enjoy football and hate football movies. Just another oddity. None of this is meant as a slight to anyone. It's just how I've observed the correlation.

A friend of mine is very similar to you in that he's been a comic book geek since he was a little kid, he's loves science, sci-fi, and has just about everything else in common with the guys on The Big Bang Theory, including the fact that he has a genius level IQ.
But he has never watched an episode of the show, and he refuses to watch it. He says that the show "hits too close to home" for him, and he feels like they are making fun of him. I've tried to get him to at least give the show a chance, but he refuses to even watch a single episode.

Season One, Ep 6. Will Sasso stole that opening scene without saying a word. Nice to see Zoe Perry. I'm glad Georgie's mom feels the same way about his mother-in-law that the rest of us do. "You're not taking my granddaughter to New York, she'll come back a democrat." It appears that Ian Armitage won't be making any appearances on this show as Sheldon. Mandy and her dad were adorable. Anytime with Annie Potts is well spent. Good to see Craig T Nelson too. "I don't know what to call old people who are doing it." Loved the cranberry sauce exchange. Meemaw and Dale on getting married....golden. "What can I say? You knocked up a pretty special lady." Wow, my heart really went out to Mary. Thanksgiving at theGeorge's grave was lovely.

Season One, Ep 7 Georgie and his father rebuilding a classic Mustang...that has trouble written all over it. Georgie does know how to read his father in law regarding his wife. Of course, George and his father in law are pricing each other with the water pump. Mandy's mother is just now watching Friends? "I miss Cosby, he was such a nice family man." Mandy and her mom making a room for the baby...sounds worse than the guys working on the car. "Trying to get her to sleep so we can fool around." They seem to be trying to beef up Conner's part on the show and we really don't need them to do that. "You were my precious little baby...then you started talking and ruined everything." I know when I was still living with my parents after college, I had to pay rent and have a job. I don't know why Connor is allowed to get away with it. She won;t come out and say it, but Mandy's mother is really unhappy with her current situation. That was hysterical when Connor got the job at the restaurant where they stopped to eat.

It feels like Connor is supposed to be the Sheldon-type of character from "Young Sheldon", but it just isn't working. The problem is that they're matching him to the later version of Sheldon from "Young Sheldon".
At the beginning, when Sheldon was young, he was cute, so his idiosyncrasies were cute and funny, but as he got older, he just became a self-centered and annoying character.
That's what seems to be happening with Connor.
Just as nobody wanted to see Sheldon in the later seasons of "Young Sheldon", nobody wants to see Connor in "Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage".
They should focus more on Georgie and Mandy's father.

Season One, Ep 8. I lke that Georgie has graciously shared the burden of Mandy's credit card debt. "C'mon put that diploma to use, talk to me." Mandy isn't the least bit suspicious about a job that will cost her $1200 from jump? Emily was wearng that black dress though. The Georgie on this show has matured a lot since the Georgie we met on Young Sheldon. He's actually a pretty good husband. Love the way Dad supports Mandy but Mom supports Connor. Mandy should have appreciated Georgie's assistance instead of resenting it. That scene with Jim and Connor at the washing machine was funny. "Oh youknocked her up...that makes more sense." "I have more to offer than changing diapers and blending bananas." I loved Mandy not making the baby might need glasses the headline. Can't believe Georgie is looking for marriage assistance from a book pubished 32 years ago. Emily nailed that final scene.

Season One, Ep 9. Georgie taking over the store has trouble written all over it. Georgie's father-in-law certainly got talked into taking Georgie with him pretty quickly. Seemed like Mandy wanted Georgie out of the house for some reason. "Why does he know clingon? I learn not to ask." OMG, Dad lied about the convention, I love that. That's so cool that Audrey knows the truth. "That was different, he only lied to have sex with me." I knew Audrey wasn't crazy about Georgie, but I didn't realize she was so calculating with her husband. I love Georgie's guilt about lying to Mandy. How cute. Big mistake calling Georgie calling Mandy upon their arrival. Not crazy about the idea of Mandy leaving CeCe with Connor. "Keep an eye on her, it's the only kid I got." Connor's song for CeCe was the funniest moment Connor has had on this show. I like that Audrey admitted that George is a good husband because he is.

Season one, Ep 10. Great to see Zoe Perry back as Mary. Don't remember her being this pushy and manipulative. Love that Georgie and Mandy both seem to be afraid of their mothers. "Oh, I'll pray for you, but I do not have high hopes." Rachel Bay Jones is so funny as Audrey. "So close to sticking the landing." Of course, the second they get alone, Georgie and Mandy stick up for their own moms. Audrey and Mary are very funny together. They should bring Mary on this show as a regular. "She had a little something to do with it, but I'll spare you the details." Not surprised that the word menopause put Georgie on the couch. "It's honor your mother not honor your mother-in-law." Loved Mandy's reaction to seeing everyone in the office. Are we supposed to believe that Georgie actually drew up a contract? Why would Connor do that to the family photos? That was stupid.

Season One, Ep 11. It's so weird that Conner eats standing up by the sink. Surprised that Georgie's mother-in-law is taking his side in this issue. How does Georgie expect to live in the same house with his father-in-law after walking out on his job? Was Georgie telling the truth about increasing sales 18%? I couldn't tell. Georgie going to work for his mother-in-law's ex? No good can come of that. Loved Mandy's reraction to learning about Georgie's new boss. Sometimes Georgie has some major cajones where Jim is concerned. "Please don't say Freddie and Job in the same sentence." Audrey talking to Freddie doesn't sound like great idea. "Long before she was your mothr-in-law, she used to suck on my neck like a vampire." Will and Montana work really well together.

Season One, Ep 12. Mandy is going all To Die For about this weather girl thing. She hasn't even mentioned her daughter. I like that Jim was being so concerned about Georgie's health. Wow, Mandy is really letting this job go to her head. "Listen, Georgie the cat's dead, go home." Loved her Mom telling Mandy they could drop her outfit off at the Goodwill on the way to buy a new dress. "A rectal thermometer would be more precise, but I don't think you and I are there yet." "You go to bed, Rose, Sophia's on the case." Loved Mandy lecturing her mom about the perils of being a weather girl. Why is Georgie having a flashback with his dad, who I don't ever remember making chocolate chip pancakes? That flashback was weird...the absence of a laugh track was beyond conspicuous and made the whole scene kind of cringy. Why is Mandy already assuming they're going to have to move to Houston? Mandy's weather report was fun. Cute episode.

Season One, Ep 13. Georgie really went overboard with that customer in the opening scene. I like the mechanic who works with Georgie and Jim. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of him and a little less of Conner. I am actually surprised that Jim is on board with this woman friendly garage thing. Audrey coming in to work at the store, no good can come of that. "Engaging the senses, that's right outta Cosmo." "Who needs a drummer i got a Maytag." Was Audrey using a feather duster on tires? Georgie knew what terracotta was? Didn't really understand why Mandy was so upset about Georgie and her mom getting along, but I guess that was the point of the episode. Conner and the doorbell...that was stupid. Why was Mandy experiencing such glee about her mother and Georgie not getting along? Georgie's apology to his in-laws was very sweet.
Gideon58
03-14-25, 10:56 PM
Season One, Ep 14. I've been hoping that Annie Potts would show up on this show at some point as Georgie's grandma. Was Connie unaware that she was in front of the restaurant where her granddaughter-in-law works? Does Mandy really think she can make Connie do something she doesn't want to do? "I supported your criminal activities the least you can do is support mine!" Georgie has a pager...who has a pager in 2025? I can't believe how thin Craig T Nelson has gotten. Love Connie blaming Georgie for Dale breaking up with her. "Why are you keepin it in your bosom, you've got 12 purses in your closet." That scene with Dale and Audrey was cute. "Do you know they have a lotion for every one of their body parts?" Mandy is enjoying what Connie is doing a little too much. "I had a big dinner bu I can try." The final scene with Connie and Dale was adorable.

Season One, Ep 15. Why were Georgie and Mandy talking about gong to movies made 30 years ago. What girl would go out with Conner? "yeah, did you tell him to lie about his age and knock her up?" "If I knew how to play it, I would have played it, I'm not a playher." Loved the name of Conner's song. Just a second girls? Plural" Love that Georgie has never heard the word "floozy" before. For the life of me, I don't get what this Chloe sees in Conner. "It's not polite to ask a woman's age but...14 months." That actress playing Chloe has a beautiful voice. "ome on, be upset with me!" She spent the night! OMG!! Mandy was way out o line questioning Cnner about his night with Chloe. It's none of her business. This episode was better than I thought it was going to be despite the fact that it was Conner-centric. I still tink they could lose the character and no one would notice.

Season One, Ep 16. I was a little surpised that that Georgie and Mandy are talking about having another baby. They are struggling now living with her parents. They don't even have their own home yet, I can't believe they are even considering this. So the only reason Mandy doesn't want to have ababy is because of her possible television career? "Put it in your own hands, that's what's going to happen." Wouldn't mind seeing more of Casey Wilson as Mandy's co-worker. Zoe is being kept busy between this show and The Conners. "No, I don't have an agent, but I do have a Radio Shack answering machine." Why is Georgie in such a rush to have another child? "Sheldon was a gift from God, a difficult gift from God." Loved Jim being repulsed by the word "inseminate." "My uerus is not a democracy." Jim is being surprisingly sensitive about this whoile thing. Didn't realize until this episode that Mandy is older than her brother. You have to wonder what else these two haven't discussed that they should have before they were married. The tag with Mand in the rt ain was cute.

Season one, Ep 17. Loved the family watching The Getaway together. ":There were pants on the floor, that's all I'm sayin." Why did Georgie's momn call Georgie and then reject his offer to help? Beth's son and Missy? Nothing good can come from that? Loved Tod trying to disguise his voice when he knew georgie was at the door. Montana that was great in that scene at the door with Todd. Loved Mandy's post-foight return home entrance. Missy really thinks she's in love with this guy? Montana also nailed that scene with the phone, Beth, Mandy, and his mom. Todd is kind of a moron. Couldn't tell if Mandy knew what Rubin said to her on the phone and I think that was the point. "Plesase bring Missy back safely so I can kill her." That scene with the moms on the pone was very well written. "Now I'm just using you cause I'm upset." Todd ran away to Mexico with $10.00 in his pocket. "That's it, the engagement's off, I renounce you." "We'll get her home safe, he might disappear in the desert." "Oh save the tears for someone stupid." Zoe Perry is turning out to be as good an actress as her mom. If that's what it was, that was a great season finale.
