Watched the pilot for this new CBS legal drama starring Oscar winner Kathy Bates this afternoon. OK, let's get this out of the way right away...this show has nothing to do with the NBC series starring Andy Griffith. Bates' character is not a reincarnation of Ben Matlock or a relative. She is merely an attorney named Madleine who just happens to have the last name of the Andy Griffith character. As the pilot opens, we watch Madeline talk herself into a job at a very prestigious law firm, despite the fact that she has not practiced law since 1991. We not only catch her help to solve a case with a $20,000,000 payoff, but provide assistance in the custody case between a co-worker (Skye P Marshall) and her ex (Jason Ritter). It goes without saying that Kathy Bates is always worth watching and she comes off a little bit like Superwoman in the pilot. We even learn at the end of the episode that Madeline is also raising her pre-teen grandson, but if the truth be told, it was hook we were thrown during the final scene of the pilot that actually motivated me to continue to watching this. We learn during the final scene that Madeline feels someone at this firm is responsible for the death of her daughter and she is determined to g et justice. So yeah, I'm going to keep watching.
For most of the episode, I was somewhat underwhelmed but the twist late in the episode changed things and got me interested. Kathy Bates does a good job, but I'm not sold on the rest of the cast yet. There is some potential here. 7/10 is my rating.

How much can you enjoy the new Matlock if you never watched the old Matlock?

This show has absolutely nothing to do with the old series
As a show separate and apart from its association with "Matlock", I think it shows promise. I like Kathy Bates and the twist at the end was great and made me want to keep watching this show to see what happens. But, as a fan of the original "Matlock", I find it almost offensive that they have created this story using the old IP of the "Matlock" of the 80s and 90s. As Gideon has written it has zero to do with the old show. It's the most blatant and ridiculous tie in to an existing show that I have ever seen. Matlock was obviously a man, he was a criminal defense attorney, he practiced in Atlanta, Georgia. None of these things are true of this show. They could have made exactly the same show without associating it with "Matlock" and they should have done so. This tendency to completely misuse existing IP while creating a completely different show that bears little to no relationship to the old show they are supposedly using as the foundation really is a trend that is unfortunate and inappropriate in my opinion, and I wish it would stop.

Agree regarding the supporting cast. Like Beau Bridges though they need to beef up his part

Season One, Ep 2. Still capitalizing on the old series utilizing the old show's theme music, why are they doing this? You guys look like my husband right before he told he was in love with his secretary." Then they show her in one of Andy Griffith's suits? Really? I love that Madeline is being assisted in her mission by her techno-geek grandson. OK, because Madeline confused the running time of the original show, that means she isn't who she says she is? I liked Madeline's reply to why she is requesting files already. Is Olympia going to remain so completely unlikable? "I'll be honest, I'm not really in a continuance kind of mood." That football stuff Olympia was pulling in the courtroom would never fly in a real courtroom. There is some chemistry between Olympia and Elijah. Hal Williams, who I haven't seen on TV since he played Marla Gibbs' husband on 227, made a surprise guest star here. Why do none of the associates understand anything Madeline says. Loved Maddie's masked outrage at being asked to stay in the car. "I don't know what you did to piss her off, but I'm not mad about it." If the bodega owner didn't do anything, why doesn't he want to release the videotape? That remark that woman made about Madeline and her daughter cut through Madeline like a knife. That scene with Bates and Sam Anderson was a perfect example of why I love Kathy Bates so much. "My nursing home is like a petri dish." This show has potential but it's not really going to work until they put Kathy Bates center stage and keep her there.
I felt like this second episode wasn't as good as the first one, but I'm still going to keep watching to see how it develops.

Huh? That alone turns me off. At least if they called it I Love Lucy, there'd be fewer people still around who realize that they just stole a title.

My dentist & I had this entire convo this a.m. She had to explain to me who Matlock is & why an older show also had this name. Confusing much? Could they not have picked a different name for Kathy Bates?

I know it makes absolutely no sense. Kathy Bates is going to carry this show by herself, she didn't need any assist from an old series....hell, the show has already been renewed for a 2nd season and only two episodes have aired.

Even though there've only been two episodes?
I usually wait a while to start a new show to see if it gets cancelled before a cliffhanger is solved or something. I may get to this since it already has a second season coming. It'd probably wait until it hits disc though.

I have been watching her work all my life. I have no reservations about her abilities.
Watched episode three tonight. Kathy Bates is far and away the best part of the series. The other actors can't match her. The writing is just alright. This feels like a decent show elevated by one strong central performance. I hope the writing and acting by the rest of the cast picks up.
I agree. Kathy Bates is great in this role. The rest of the show is not really at the level of her performance. I have yet to really see much that really distinguishes this show from any other more traditional legal drama. I think that is what they are ultimately going for with her secret motivation to get justice for her daughter, but so far it still feels much the same as other shows centered around the law.

Season 1, Ep 3. OK, we learned that the characters played by Beau Bridges, Jason Ritter, and Skylar Marshall are the prime suspects in Madeline's daughter's death. Loved when Madeline couldn't turn her phone off, which apparently was a stall tactic. I can definitely see how this new client could be involved in a sexual harassment suit. Interesting that Madeline offered to stay behind after the phone debacle but Olympia insisted that she should. Madeline was actually mouthing words to the defendant? Seriously? Loved the actor playing the judge. Loved Olympia telling Madeline to "fix her face." "She can tell if somebody's thinking about lying." It seemed a little odd that Madeline was not familiar with the phrase "human lie detector" or what a jury consultant was. Liking David Del Rio as Billy. "But you know what you're terrible at? Not reacting to sex tapes." OK, the thing with the phone wasn't on purpose. Loved when the jury consultant said the jury didn't like Olympia and Madeline should handle the rest of the case. Those shots of the jury looking bored and ready to fall asleep were kind of odd. No she didn't spill coffee all over Olympia's computer! Loving Maddie's terror about trying a case. Can't figure out where Elijah fits into the firm. I don't like the forum where Maddie said what she said about Miss Ramos, but I definitely understood where she was coming from. The writers are trying to infuse some likability into Olympia, but it's not working yet. I actually saw a lightbulb go off in Maddie's head when she was talking to her dad. "Good thing I didn't cross that question off my list." "Back in my day, somebody tried to kiss you in a closet, it was a Tuesday." Bates nailed Madleine's closing...wow. What a phenomenal actress. Hope we get to see more of Shea, the jury consultant, I liked her. I'd trade Olympia and Sarah for her. What Olympia said to Sarah was on the money. I love that Maddie is terrified of Shea, a great reason to bring Shea back. That final scene was so creepy. OK, this show is really starting to grow legs and walk, thanks to the amazing Kathy Bates.

Season One, Ep 4. I love Alfie's passion and dedication regarding helping his grandma. How did Alfie know that that voice was Olympia's father? Sarah really needs to chill out. Yeah, Sarah really needs to get a life. Beau Bridges was killingme in those plaid pants. Do guys still wear pants like that in 2024 when they play golf? Love Ms Billman, the human equivalent of a brick wall. How does a law frim represent both sides in a case? Maddie's handling of Robert was so smooth and sensitive. Who is that actor playing Roberrt? He looks SO familiar. How did Matlock know about Billman's love of dogs? Loved Olympia's red suit. 342 pages missing! What is this, Watergate? Is something romantic coming between Billy and Sarah? That scene with Bates and Sam Waterson was excellent. Loved Maddie using Olympia's own words against her. OMG, I can't believe poor Robert is going to get screwed. Maddie and Olympia are beginning to bond just a Maddie might have to send her to jail. Wasn't sure until this episode, but Julian is still in love with Olympia and they just took Elijah off the canvas...OK, thatg was way too easy and way too early in the season for Maddie to have found her daughter's killer, but we'll see. Another solid episode.

Season One, Ep 5. What is it with Sarah? Too much caffeine? Love Maddie figuring out that their newest client, Katya, is a drug addict. Looked like Maddie started to tell Olympia the tuth about her daughter and changed her mind. Love the way Maddie is getting tech support without her grandson. Why are all the plaintiffs in this class action suit so terrified of testifying? "You go on one mssion and suddenly you're a Matlock." That's why the plaintiffs are scared...we're talking about correcrtions officers? Not happy about Maddie looking for Katya, seems very dangerous. Felt bad about the tumble Katya took. Nice watching Maddie tear Olympia a new one. I hate that Billy is no longer in Maddie's corner. Loved Maddie trying to explain addiction to her grandson. Kira thinks Sarah is a lesbian? Thayt was sweet of Billy to set up a dating profile for Maddie. Loved Maddie and Grandpa admitting that they need alfie. This show is starting to become a litle more than the Kathy Bates show. I'm actually starting to care about some of these supporting characters.

Season One, Ep 6. I just realized that Sam Anderson's character is Maddie's husband, or ex-husband, I'm not sure which. OK, this one might get a bit messy because it's beginning with a two year flashback. Weird that Olympia doesn't remember Maddie spilling coffee on her. Every moment we get with Maddie and her grandson are golden. OMG, Matlock is not her real name!!!! I guess I should have seen that coming. I'm still having issues with the character, but Leah Lewis, who plays Sarah, is so damn beautiful. I haven't seen Olympia this passionate about a case since the show began. Not clear yet on this guy who is apparently stalking Maddie. I'm actually starting to warm up to Olympia and Julian as a couple. I found it kind offensive that Olympia affected that southern accent when she was talking to that factory worker. "Focus on how sexy I look cooking up fingerprints." Maddie and the intercom system cracked me up. "The bladder takes a nosedive after 70." I'm having a little difficulty deciphering which scenes are in the past and which are in the present. "How'd you like to spot a lady in heels up a very tall ladder?" That Vanessa boy...ice, ice, baby. Loved Vanessa scaring the hell out of Olympia. I loved what Maddie said about taking this last opportunity to parent a child. Bates nailed that monologue about Maddie and Ellie on the playground. Wow, that prosecutor was brutal, I was surprised Vanessa didn't come over the desk after her. "Sixteen steps...that's how many steps it took to get from one side of his room to the other." Enjoying Billy and Sarah running each other's lives. That scene in the last act with Bates and Sam Anderson was wonderful, OMG. "Undercover operations are sexy, baby." Really starting to love this show, but I really don't understand the reveal that Matlock isn't her real name. The fact that it's not her real name makes the whole original hook they used pointless.

Season One, Ep 7. Can't believe that with her recent health scare, Maddie's husband and grandson would leave her alone, and over the holidays. "These sweaters do not align with our vision." "Acapella is all about fun!" Sarah's makeup looks REALLY heavy in this episode. Sarah's got a real hard on for Maddie which she needs to get over. It's amazing how Olympia's feelings have changed about Maddie since the pilot. Still want to see more of Beau Bridges, nailing the few scenes he has now. who's the actor playing Trent? Who was Julien to question this woman's talent as a cellist? Seemed like Maddie had all the power in that meeting. What was with the reluctance about being photographed? Who was the actor playing Dr Blackwell? "You did it to Olympia, which is the Super Bowl of Sorcery." "You can tell that she ran out of ink and had to switch pens." I'm loving Billy and Sarah there's mad chemistry there and I can't wait for them to hook up. "There's going to be alcohol and it will be night." I loved when the client called Matlock "grandma Death." The client and her roommate, who I'm guessing now , is not an attorney, are turning out the real block hats here but I'm not sure what their endgame is. The timing on Senior's appearance at that meeting seemed a little too convenient. Glad to see that Maddie is still using her grandson for tech stuff. Shea is kind of a bitch, not feeling her. "I'm just a soprano, standing in front of her alto." "You don't need the moment to be perfect. Just pick the moment and it will be perfect." Loved that brief but very effective Olympia/Senior encounter, further proof that we need to see more of Beau Bridges. That was so sad when Maddie was listening to her daughter's voicemail. Maddie seems very conflicted about Julien's discovery and how it affected the case. Our first girl on girl kiss...whoo hoo! There's a whole lot of backstory between Julien and senior that still needs to be unloaded. Does Trent keep calling Maddie Grandma on purpose. What was that thing with the broken bracelet? David Del Rio is really bringing the sexy and I can't believe that girl turned down his proposal. Wow, Matlock got into Senior's computer!

Season One, Ep 8. Maddie's grandson can't think of anything but Grandma's mission...how adorable. "And apparently there's no warranty on the human male.". Why did Sarah tell Maddie to use one of her spells? What did she mean by that? Olympia couldn't have been a little more sympathetic with Billy? Took a minute to realize that the nanny is also Julien and Olympia's nanny. Olympia should have slapped those bitchy moms. Olympia seems to have stronger feelings for Julian than I suspected. I love the way computer files on TV always take so long to print. "No use kissin ass if no one knows the lips are mine." Loved Maddie turning white as a ghost at the word "security." Why is Maddie so frightened of getting in the middle of Olympia and Julien? "Kajiano is scary as mashed potatoes with no gravy." Maddie's blood sugar performance was masterful. Of course it wasn't the document...too early in the season, still. Bates was riveting during that phone call with Edwin, where implied Maddie might not have been there for Ellie as much as should have been. Can't believe Edwin did that, very out of character for him. Olympia breaking down the evidence would have been a much more effective scene with Bates doing it. I know it'd going to move slowly but looking forward to the already slow burn with Billy and Sarah. Matty should not have to give up her family because of her mission. Somethng's got to give somewhere. I'm glad Edwin apologized to Matty. How did her grandson do that with the pen?

Season One, Ep 9. "I used to be a blonde...still am in some places." I loved that expression Maddie used "tenderized the meat a little." I wonder when we're going to learn what Maddie's real name is? That purple suit Olympia was wearing was gorgeous. The return of Shea, the human lie detector, no good can come of that. Did Maddie say Sam's not hiding anything? The client is always hiding soomething, they're not that naive. I think I hate Shea. Julian had an affair with the client? I really don't like the way Shea snuck up on Maddie. Shea and Julian had an affair! Billy and Sarah weren't happy as being introduced to "silently observe."I knew Sam was hiding something. Why would Sam lie to her own cousin about the case? I don't undewrstand what Olympia and Elijah's "thing" has to do with this case. Billy and Sarah going undercover...totally hot. God when are Sarah and Billy going to realize they have the hots for each other? I have to admit Edwin might have a point regarding Maddie losinig focus on her mission. Bates' face was classic when Olympia started talking about the opioids. "I think first we need a plan and then maybe some more sweet potato fries." Love drunk Maddie and drunk Olympia. Boiy, the road to Billy and Sarah is going to be a lng slow one, especially with Kira still in there pitching. I cannot believe Maddie eliminated Olympia as a suspect.

Season One, Ep 10. Not sure why Maddie's gut is leading her to Julian. Skye P, Marshall was excellent in that first scene with the Tranquil Pines guy. Billy's new belt looked ridiculous with his suit. "You've gotta win cause I have student debt." "His legs don't work so well...but his tongue..." Loved watching Maddie meeting with the ladies circle. "Garden ho's before bros." Nice to see Joanna Cassidy, who is aging quite gracefully by the way. "Sometimes I look in the mirror and feel like somebody put me in an old lady costume." Cassidy nailed that monologue about how her husband died. Billy just loves that belt. Hal Williams is looking terribly frail. The trial testimony was a overly complex for my tastes. I'm really loving the Tracy/Hepburn, love/hate thing going on between Billy and Sarah. They have mad chemistry. Loved Sarah's green pants suit in the final act. Maddie's grandson to the rescue once again. Would Julian have the foresight to actually bug Olympia's office. Sarah's analogy to Williams' character was a little over the top. Does he think the fact that he doesn't like change is going to be taken seriously as evidence? Missed why Maddie took Sarah off the case and put Billy on. The Juxtaposing of the two trials was initially jarrimg but effective. How did Maddie know where Walter's ring was? Did Sarah seriously threaten Maddie? "Wanna start over...still got cartiledge in my knees." Why would Maddie give up now and go in a whole different direction?

Season One, Ep 11. Why is Maddie pretending to be widowed? Looks like Olympia is just as wary of Shae as Maddie is. Why is Sarah talking like she's lady Macbeth. Nice to see Christopher Gorhan, who I've loved since Ugly Betty. Sarah needs to lighten up. Julien is hiding something from Olympia. "I don't care about the money. I care about him lying!" Sarah and Shae working together makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Were Olympia and Elijah playing connect 4? This is the first episode where I've seen Maddie display any genuine fear. I'm not convinced that Olympia is as innocent as Maddie thinks she is. Not happy that Gorham turned out to be the bad guy. Julien isn't a partner already? "I don't like the way you've been moving...and secrets need to come to the light." Loved Olympia's reaction to Sarah's request. Sr. is definitely keeping a few secrets. "This is four day old carp, something fishy." Why is Maddie's husband lying to her?
They should call it Miss Matlock. Kathy Bates is great, but this just reminds me i'd rather see the old unrelated show with Griffith in it. Dad's doctor is named Matlock too.

Season One, Ep 12. Knew that opening scene was a dream, so obvious. Sam Anderson is really growing on me as Maddie's husband. A President being responsible for a woman's sexual awakenings? Seriously? JFK is the only President I could see this manifesting. Sarah needs to stop completing Olympia's sentences, I can't believe that's endearing her to Lympia at all. Loving Billy icing Sarah out. Julien and Olympia as opposing counsel? This is going to get ugly. Sarah's never heard of Kramer VS Kramer. Where have I seen the actor playing Bruno before? Is Billy attracted to Simone or is he just trying to drive Sarah crazy? Our first glimpse of Maddie's daughter was beyond pathetic. Bates nailed those flackback scenes with her. Now her husband wants Maddie to drop this whole thing? Beginning to wonder how Olympia can pull this off. That flashback where Maddie threw her daughter out of the house was a heartbreaker. The flashbacks reveal a lot about why what Maddie is doing now is so important to her. They better not put Julien and Olympia in the same cell. No matter how many millions of times I've seen it on TV, male and female inmates are never locked in the same cell. Really liked that actr playing th judge. Now that Billy and Sarah are back on track, can we do something about Olympia and Elijah?

Season One, Ep 13. Why is Easter such a big deal at the firm? I've never worked anywhere where any fuss was made over Easter. I like that actor playing the security guard. The Twilight Zone ring tone cracked me up. Why is Olympia anxious to meet Alfie? Seems strange to me. "Family Day is a stress migraine waiting to happen." This case seems kind of personal to Olympia, or I'm just reading something into her passion that's not there. "I don't know about boom" "A video is worth a thousand convictions." Really liked the actor playing the ADA. Maddie reassuring the client about what was about to happen reminded me of Liam Neesom telling his daughter what's about to happen to her in the first Taken. The girl has a drink named after her? The ADA nailed that evidentiary hearing. "It has recently come to my attention that I can be a bit of a bull in a china shop...at times." Really don't like this girl chasing Billy. Lipstick on the collar? What is this 1968? Pretty sire Alfie will jump at the idea of family day. Can't believe her husband told Maddie that she had to let this go...does he seriously think that will ever happen? Sarah is not even subtle regarding be in denial about Billy but not wanting any other woman near him. That peach pants suit Skye Marshall had on in court was gorgeous. Love when Maddie's words come back to haunt her. Nice to see a civil moment between Julien and Olympia. Alfie looked so pissed when he got caught. How was Maddie able to navigate all those security screens? Maddie and her grandson make a great team. This show is going to lose Beau Bridges if they don't give him more to do, the most thankless TV role I've seen in years. That was spooky what he said about how she got into the firm though and I loved the way Maddie's face went white when he said it. "First rule of hunting...be patient." Hope we see more of this ADA, he was really good. I can't believe Sarah is still trying to make herself be in love with Kira. Not buying it. I'm glad Kira was honest with Sarah regarding monogamy instead of lying about it and disappointing Sarah later. "Before you seek revenge, dig two graves." "If you've got regrets speak 'em from your soul." That final scene with Bates and Bridges was lovely. The writing is sure protecting Maddie, she seems to get away with a lot that she shouldn't be. Looking forward to seeing more of Julie Hagerty as Maddie's sister.
Gideon, I'm kind of interested in this. What value do you see, or what benefits are you receiving, from writing your thoughts on every episode of shows you watch on a public forum like this. Thanks Gideon. How are you feeling about this show overall now? We are near the end of the season. Have you felt like it's improved from your initial impression earlier in the season? Season One, Ep 14. Julien and Shea working together? No good can come of that. Shea knows everything about these documents that Maddie is looking for. "Enough with the parking garage...this isn't All the President's Men." I like Julie Hagerty, but I'm not really buying her and Bates as sisters, they're so different. What did Maddie's husband mean by Maddie wouldn't be anything without Bitsy? Sarah really needs to go on decaf. I love that Olympia chose to look for a new jury consultant. I can't stand Shea. This is the first case where we've seen jury selection, I wonder why that is. Sarah's like a bulldog on Shea. The presentation of the opening statements was excellent. I don't believe a word that came out of Juror 32's mouth. Sarah is counting Billy's texts? Seriously? So far the Bitsy character is a waste of screen time. Billy and Simone in the closet...loving it. Does Billy think that Sarah would not tank him and Simone if given the opportunity. Well, if the documents are shredded, isn't that the end of Maddie's mission? OK, I think I'm understanding Bitsy's position here. Maddie thinks Bitsy tried to steal her daughter from her. There's some serious sexual tension between Olympia and that ADA. That actress playing Mrs. Reed looks familiar? Wow, Maddie and Mrs. Reed seem to have a lot in common. Billy being with Simone is driving Sarah crazy. How did that attorney get that tape from a football game six years ago? "Hiding evidence is the epitome of evil." Like the reveal that Maddie's mother was an alcoholic. That explains a lot. Does Bitsy not understand the pain that Maddie is in regarding her daughter? "I'm not saying don't blame anybody, I'm saying blame the right people." If the document still exists, what exactly were Julien and Shea shredding? Why would Tucker settle for $100,000? He'll never walk again! "when you hit 76, every liquid hits for the exit." I cannot believe how much denial Billy and Sarah are in about each other. I knew Maddie shouldn't have been so quick to eliminate Olympia as a suspect.

Season One, Ep 15. Loved those pj's Kathy had on during the opening scene. I'm glad that Maddie has put Olympia back on the suspect list I just hope she's right. Maddie really needs to work on her poker face. Not sure how important it is that Elijah has been taken off the case. Bitsy thought handing out biscuits to the jury was appropriate? Sr (Beau Bridges) doesn't dress for court? Loved Olympia comparing the tiger to Joe Camel. I didn't get what Bitsy saw in the courtroom. OK, the story seems to be backtracking...it's not Olympia but it's someone employed at the firm. Why is Sr so eager to settle with Slammed? I think he knows something we don't know. Watching Billy getting his ass slapped by Simone made Sarah nuts. Loved when Olympia sent Maddie home. "You're just a big ol' squish when you let yourself feel things." I didn't realize how sincere Maddie's feelings were about Olympia until that scene with Bitsy. Liked Olympia and Shea clearing the air between them. That white suit Olympia wore in the later court scene was gorgeous. So this Slammed company was marketing an alcoholic drink to 14 year olds? Skye P Marshall and Jason Ritter as Olympia and Julien finalized their divorce, though it seems like there are still feelings there.

Season One, Ep 16. Loved that Maddie was using one of those voice disguising devices on her phone in that opening scene. I can't believe this is all coming down to Evelyn Belvin. "The carrot didn't work, so now it's time for the stick. So is someone with the firm have sme sort of financial stake in Slam? Maddie's question to the juror was legitimate...why did this woman wait 21 year to come forward? HGene remidns me of the late Dennis Hopper. Gene reminmded me of James Whitmore's character in The Shawshank Redemption...after 21 years, he's more comfortable on the inside than the outside. Loved when he asked Olympia what doordash was. I knew that package elivered to Evelyn had something to do with her dog. Sarah really learns how to stay in her lane. I don't think I've seen Maddie's heart go out to a client the way it has gone out to Gene. I loved Maddie talking to Edwin when she still had that thing on her phone. Loved when Edwin called Maddie Cruella. "If she's ;leaving, there's lke three people I need to suck up to." "You don't eat on antiuities, you eat on old junkl." "We're just dtting our I's and crossing our cellectable spoons." Bates was so brilliant in that scene with Belvin on the phone about Adam. I cannot believe this is all coming down to Belvin. I'm glad senior has been eliminated as a suspect. Good to see this ADA again, I like him. I didn't get thatg little exchange with Olympia and Julian. Can't believe the ADA came to the rescue, did not see that coming. OMG, Olympia is starting to put things thogether.

According to the commercials I've been seeing all week, this is the season one finale. Olympia was scary as hell in that opening scene. Why is Sarah's taking a case on her own going to blow back on Billy as well. Wow, she locked Maddie in the office. This woman's husband is related to someone in the firm? How does she expect to get a divorce i one night? It's even scarier that Olympia is not looping anyone in on Maddie that she's planning to deal with her by herself. Why doesn't Olympia want to hear about Maddie's daughter? Loved Olympia listening to Maddie's call to Edwin. Olymnpia seems genuinely hurt by what Maddie has told her. Mr Buckley was pretty intimidating. I have to admit I expected someone more physiocally imposing to play the role. "And at the end of the night, remind me how much I hate working with you." Why would Mrs Buckley sign such a pre-nup? Loved when Maddie dropped Andy Griffith's name. "I came here expecting to be invisible." Hpw can she get an annullmetn if she's pregnant? I knew Mrs.Buckley was going to have that baby in the office. Good thing Sarah and Billy didn't touch Maddie's phone in that purse. Billy and Sarah are toast if Olympia catches them. Exactly how much did Billy and Sarah learn before they were caught by Olympia? Is that priest in Grant Buckley's pocket? How convenient that Billy and Sarah are both ending their current rlelationships. Julien is a terrible liar. Maddie and Olympia as a united front should make for a very interesting second season.

Just saw Sam Anderson, who plays Maddie’s husband, on an old episode of Friends where he played the doctor delivering Phoebe’s triplets, who was oddly obsessed with Fonzie.

Okay, this is the real first season finale. Maddie's bulletin board reminds me of the bulletin board at SVU. Does Sarah have more involvement in this than I thought? Didn't really understand Maddie taking her board apart. I'm still not sure that Maddie's trust of Olympia is right. "Go home, get anough sleep for the both of us." Edwin (Sam Anderson) doesn't trust Olympia as much as Maddie does. Edwin doesn't realize that asking Maddie to retire again is a losing battle? Loved Billy's rant at Sarah. "One tooth is not stopping us I've got a lot more." Loved Sarah trying to conceal her tooth loss from Olympia and Maddie. Loved Olympia admitting that she has a huge ego, never thought I thought she would say that out loud. Olympia's reaction to Sarah's mouth was hysterical. I wonder how old that message from her father was that Olympia was caught listening to by Julien? Loved Sarah's white suit. I remember David Fumero, who played Dino, from One Life to Live. Sarah's opening statement was really well-written. No matter where all of this is ging, that scene after the phone call with Denise proved that these two women really want to trust one another. Finding out that Julien is actually guilty could really break Olympia. I liked that actress playing Denise. I was more than halfway through the show before I noticed that Olympia's lipstick matched her suit perfectly. How did Edwin know the security questions? I thought Sr (Beau Bridges) had been cleared, I hate to think that Sr was behind all this. Olympia didn't know about the safety deposit box. Was that Billy's girlfriend flirting with Dino? Is it me, or was it kind of stupid of Julien to keep those docments in the safety deposit box? Why would he do that? Not sure if I buy Julien's explanation offered to Olympia. I knew Edwin doesn't trust Olympia. Does Julien think the fact that this happened 14 yars ago makes it right? jason Ritter did the best work of his season in that scene with Skye P Marshall. Alfie is a freakng genius. Nice bombshell on which to end the season.
